7 Dwarfs Cottage Scene -- Can't see it during the day

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Why? It's spiderman on a vehicle assembly line robotic arm... Really not that groundbreaking when you think about it.

And what, pray tell, would you refer to as "innovative", then?
PS: it's "Spider-Man". Respect the hyphen.

Actually, I think the CM was right in regards to changing your Mine Train FP for a different attraction if the FP attraction is down. I found an excerpt from allears.net about FP+ usage and I believe I read almost the exact same thing on the Disney Parks Blog as well at one point.

"If an experience is not operating or may be unavailable during your FastPass+ arrival window, you will receive an alternative FastPass+ selection. Guests using My Disney Experience to make FastPass+ selections and have opted for messaging will be notified by email that an attraction they selected is not available. You will then see a list of alternate FastPass+ selections to choose from."

It doesn't make sense that you would be able to "save" a FP because the system automatically deletes your FP 15 mins after your scheduled time if it is not redeemed or changed. The only way to allow your MB or card to tap is if a CM was able to manually override the FP system at the attraction to allow you to pass.

Well, we were just going by the directions the first CM gave us when we showed up at our FP time. That CM told us not to use our other remaining FP early or it would use the 7DMT FP. So, either the first CM was giving bad information to all of the FP holders in line.....OR the 2nd CM was giving bad information. Either way one CM was giving bad information and more importantly a brand new ride was really having issues right from the start. That is not good form. The 7DMT FP wasn't deleted according to either CM. The second CM said it was converted to a FP that could be used at one of the five other attractions...as long as we hadn't used a FP at one of those locations.

Here's the way it's SUPPOSED to work (based on what happened with EE for us this week):

-When a ride is down during your FP+ window for that ride, the FP+ is automatically converted to a floating FP+ that can be used any time of the same day at the same park, either for that attraction or a different one. At MK or AK, it can be used for just about anything at the same park (AK had a few limitations, but it was all things I wouldn't want to use a FP+ for anyway, like meeting Mickey and Minnie). At HS and Epcot, you may be limited to using it for attractions in the same tier (not sure).
-You can still get a 4th FP+ while you have the floating one on your account, so don't blow the floating one on something that has plenty of times open already! Save it for the ride that went down or use it on another top priority. DH and I did this at AK with no problems.
-Just like a 4th FP+, you can use it to re-ride something that you have already used a FP+ for. I confirmed this with multiple CM's at AK... they all said it was valid for "any attraction except x, y, and z" (which were named specifically and I don't remember what they were, but again, they were nothing I was upset about not being able to use them for lol)

-Important: If this happens, do NOT show up for another FP+ attraction too early and try to get in before your window. If you do, the system thinks you are using your floating pass and it disappears.
-Important: While you have a floating FP+ on your account, be very careful to only touch your MB to the sensor once when using other FP+'s. DH accidentally let his touch Mickeys for too long, and the system thought he was riding Kali River Rapids twice. They were able to fix it at a kiosk, but it's an unnecessary hassle if you're aware and are careful to start with.

cw1982 - Thanks! your information is pretty spot on to what the first CM told us...esp. in regards to your Important highlights. Our trouble came when we showed back up at 7DMT later when the ride was back up and running. The 2nd CM tried to convince us we 'lost' the FP. Either way, they need to get this ride up and running. But thanks again for the important information. After our last week with multiple ride break downs...Pirates, 7D, TSMM, it is important for people to know in advance.

Pirates went down for us too! When were you trying to ride that one? I think for us it was late Sunday night. But yeah, I agree 7D has very little excuse to be down so much. With all the testing they did before opening, and as long as it took to get it open, there should really be little to no issues at this stage in the game.

And I figured you already knew most of what I posted, but like you said, it's important for people to know this stuff, and I'm sure others are seeing this thread lol ;) I hope you still had a great trip! I didn't want to come home.

This is a very informative post. Thanks for sharing.

What was even worse was that the people who had waited in line for over an hour when it broke were given nothing more than a bland apology. I overhead someone asking if they could get a fastpass to make up for their lost time, and the CM's working the ride said there was nothing they could do. Total nonsense. I know because I got a paper FP when something similar happened to us on EE just earlier the same week. Everyone who was booted from that line got one, and we also got our floating FP since the ride went down during our window (happened automatically).

I did go to guest services and ask for a pass to use on another day, after explaining that we lost our last 30 minutes of park time and couldn't get to anything else to ride instead because they kicked everyone out of line five minutes before closing. The CM's at guest services were shocked that it wasn't handled at the ride but they took care of it. We got a pass that let us ride the very next day... so it actually worked nicely since I got to skip the queue lol.

Even so, it seemed irresponsible for the CM's working the ride to not have been given those passes on hand, since the ride was having so many issues that week. Seems like the supervisors, or whoever makes those decisions, should have been more prepared.

That's honestly crazy. It's standard procedure to give passes out when a ride breaks down. Sorry you had that experience!

Honestly, it was fine... guest relations took care of it no questions asked. I was just surprised that they didn't have the passes at the ride.

I really hate to sound negative, but with how some things are being handled these days, I worry it's only a matter of time until the Wicked Witch and the entire cottage scene becomes completely static....for good :(

I rode last night and the cottage scene was working just fine. It was at night, though, so I can't comment on the glare in the day time.

Yeah, haven't ridden it at night. While I'm told the cottage scene is great at night, I hear there are other issues with the rest of the track at night -- it's needs more lighting. Go figure.

The way the system worked for me is that after I entered the ride at 9:30 am, and the ride went down, my 9:00-10:00 am FP was converted to a FP to use for the entire day, not just for Mine Train but several rides. Around 12:30, the ride was back up and I "redeemed" my FP for it then. Here is the text of the email I received:

We're sorry, your previously confirmed FastPass+ selection for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 06/04/2014 needs to be changed because the experience is temporarily unavailable.

As a replacement, you may now visit any one of the following FastPass+ experiences on 06/04/2014, starting at 9:00 AM through anytime during normal Theme Park operating hours (Valid Theme Park admission is required and your FastPass+ selection cannot be redeemed during Extra Magic Hours):

Experiences*
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad®
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin®
Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid
Splash Mountain®
Pirates of the Caribbean®
Haunted Mansion®
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
The Barnstormer

There is no action needed to select the experience in advance. During the designated day and time, just arrive at the FastPass+ entrance to one of the experiences above and touch your MagicBand to enter!
*Note that you may be able to still experience your selection for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train if it becomes available again today, unless you opt to visit one of the other listed experiences.

Visit My Plans on My Disney Experience for more details.

I received an "open" FP. See my other response about it later in this thread.

TBF, when RSR was having all sorts of problems early on and was breaking down a lot -- after people had been waiting 60+ minutes in line all the time -- the CMs at DCA would only give the choice of "wait in line until it comes back on" or "leave and come back and get at the back of the queue". I'm not saying that's a right or wrong way to handle the situation with the 7DMT, but it strikes me as a somewhat analogous situation.

I'm curious as to what they do now that RSR is established and presumably does not have the same kinds of massive waits.

Slightly different situation. I was not in line with a fastpass that time... I was in standby. However, I still knew to ask about a pass for it because when EE went down while I was waiting, everyone being ushered out of the line got a paper pass, and those who had a fastpass also got the floating one in our accounts. I didn't know if I had just gotten lucky or not, but I knew it wouldn't hurt to ask and I got what I wanted.

What is RSR? How long ago was this? Was it before fastpasses?

Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land. It opened in summer 2012 with massive lines and wait times in standby and also had (paper) FP. If you were in line when it broke down, you either waited until it came back up or got out of line and lost your spot.

Gotcha. IDK if it's different because the policy may be different between WDW and DL, or if the general practice has changed since then, or what other reason there may be for the difference... but like I said before, the CM's at guest relations were very surprised that the CM's at 7DMT didn't give out passes to the people who were being ushered out of the queue. I wasn't the only person in line at guest relations for this reason, either... I think half the line was people looking for lost and found items, and the other half was 7DMT related lol. By the time I left the room, I was overhearing the exact same conversation over and over, and all of the guests who were there for the same reason that I was were being given the same pass that I got.
