Thank you for posting that. It was very entertaining! Years ago, a friend gave me a tape of a Russian Army chorus. Although the music was more conservative than the music for the Olympics, the men's singing voices were outstanding. Who knows? Maybe the "tradition" over there is for their police and military men to be as talented in singing, as they are in their protection of their homeland. :)

A little bothered...I think the coverage running on NBC right now is the coverage we were watching on NBC Sports this morning. I guess at least we missed a chunk of it while we were out doing hard labor for DD5's softball team. :in pain: Although, we did get back to catch some of the pairs skating and got to hear commentator Johnny Weir mention that it's fun to throw and be thrown. o_O

Norway is leading in golds and in total medals after Saturday's events.
Speaking of spoilers (and, by the way, quoting a post with spoilers reveals the spoilers), does anyone know how to "turn off" the medal count on the Yahoo! home page?

The cross-country skiing, speed skating, biathlon, and ski jumping were all pretty cool this afternoon. Many of the commentators were former athletes in the sport they're covering, and they have an enthusiasm for the sport and the participants. Works well.

The opening ceremonies were, as always, ponderous. No torch lighting will ever top the Barcelona Olympics with the archer.

Wow, the US women's Hockey team just got shafted in that prelim game vs Canada. The referee blows the whistle clearly before the puck enters the net, yet they allow the goal to count. I don't understand how that can happen. The ref loses sight of the puck, the whistle blows and the play is dead, period. Worse off, there wasn't a clear "goal" signal on the ice. So they just botched this entirely. I do agree that the puck was loose and never officially covered, but the fact that the whistle blew shows the Ref lost sight of the puck. Overall, the referee was awful in this game for both sides. Several obvious calls for each side were missed.

Total momentum changer in the game and the reason Canada won. Hopefully this gives the girls a chip on their shoulders and a little fire for the rest of the tourney.

So the women's hockey games have only 1 ref & 2 linesmen, and the men's have 2 refs & 2 linesmen? I don't understand that.

But the international ice surface is much larger than the North American ice, so you would think that they should have 2 ref's as the standard.

I'll all psyched for Team USA's first game tomorrow morning. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so that I can watch the game without a power outage.

My thoughts on the two games in Group C: Latvia is not as weak as I thought. Holding the Swiss scoreless until the waning seconds was very impressive. (They were outshot 39-21, almost double!) The road gets tougher for Latvia against the giants of Sweden and Czech Republic in that group. Speaking of the Czech-Sweden game, not surprised Lundqvist did his thing. As a Devils fan, of course I loathe him when he plays well for the Rangers but he held his ground after momentum shifted. The Czechs fought hard in the third but they couldn't capitalize on their chances. Sweden dominated early up until they scored the 4th goal. Now granted, I do think allowing that second Czech goal, where the player was clearly in the crease before the puck came in and clearly interfering with the goalie, was a bit eyebrow raising and I could see how the Swedes did not like the call. Maybe this is the Group of Death in men's hockey, after all.

Hmpf. Not sure how I feel about Jesus Christ Superstar as the choice of music for those movements.

But China has my heart with La Miserables even with the boo boo's. Will miss those two.

Great first game for Team USA. I'm pretty sure @Lucky was glad Carlson had the first goal of the game. A great second period with six unanswered goals after Quick gave up the equalizer though it was offside. But I've got say. Russia did not exactly dominate Slovenia as I thought. Didn't see much of the game because I was watching primarily the US game. There's definitely a lot of pressure on the Russians and maybe it was first game jitters. And Canada struggled against Norway, which was shocking to me and I certainly thought they had the easiest group! I think right now, the US and Sweden are the top two but there are more pool play games left so we'll see if Canada and Russia, two of the heavy favorites in this tourney, can improve next game. And the US faces a tough one Saturday morning: It's against Russia.
