I am finding it hard to get enthusiastic about the upcoming games ...however having said that , I also said the exact same thing about the London olympics and they turned out to be the fantastic viewing from start to finish

I can only speak for myself, but I find each time that the Olympics come around, I tend to get far more interested as the event draws closer. When the news/sports coverage ramps up, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement—the interviews with athletes, film of the venues, and another favorite—the sort of "travelogue" presented about the host country. I enjoy seeing and learning about locations around the world that host the Olympics.

Then, when the Olympic Games actually begin, I focus on my favorite sports, and also watch some other sports, just to see what's going on. Sometimes, the best viewing comes randomly, as you're watching something you hadn't planned to see, and it turns out to be one of the most exciting competitions.

In conclusion, it's also pleasant to see countries put aside their differences with one another, while they salute and celebrate these wonderful athletes from across the globe. I love the festive atmosphere that surrounds the Olympics, and I'm really looking forward to the events in Sochi.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Lolo Jones has made the US Women's Bobsled team. Not the first to do it, but it is rare to be an athlete in the Summer and Winter Olympics.
Canada is very proud to lay claim to Clara Hughes, the only Olympian to have won multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
2 Bronze in the Summer 1996 Games; and 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze over three separate Winter Games.

Canada has always had some excellent figure skaters. Some of my favorite male skaters from years past include Toller Cranston, Elvis Stojko, Kurt Browning and Brian Orser. Canada did well in ice dancing some years ago, with the wonderful team of Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz. Favorite female skaters through the years include Elizabeth Manley, Jennifer Robinson and Joannie Rochette. I'm not yet up-to-date on the current Canadian teams, but I do look forward to watching all the skating events.

The USA has had many remarkable figure skaters as well (too many to mention here), and of course, I'll be cheering for the USA Figure Skating Team. Our women's team usually has the best chance, overall, of medalling (watch for Tracie Gold and Ashley Wagner). Also, our 6-time, USA champion ice dancing team of Meryl Davis and Charlie White may be the in the most exciting event of all to watch.

Good luck to all the Olympic skaters! :)

Please don't think ill of my father (he was my hero, he's dead, and this was his only fault), but he only watched Olympic skating to laugh when the girls fell and cried. Elizabeth Manley was his favourite because she fell A LOT!

Just yesterday my son said to me that the Olympics would suck without King (he didn't want to be Grandpa, or Papa, or Dida) to laugh with when the skaters wiped out.

Sorry to hear that your dad passed away. His memory lives on in your heart.

Thank you. His cancer diagnosis and treatment started just before the last winter Olympics. I would pick up three Tim Horton's coffees each night for him on my way home from work, and we would spend a couple of hours each night watching the games together, while my mom grabbed some much needed rest. My brothers didn't really pitch in until the last few weeks, so for the first 10 weeks, it was all on me and my mom.

Not sure how much, if any, of the games I will be able to watch this year.

Here we are, almost 4 years later, and I still tear up more days than not.

Again, so very sorry for your loss.

Reminds me, we see my folks and my MIL often, but it never seems like often enough.
Need to fix that.

Franz Klammer was bigger than life back then. This also reminds me of the excitement of ABC's Wide World of Sports. Loved watching that. Used to really enjoy sportscaster Jim McKay, on that show and also for his great coverage of the Olympics.
