I'm waiting for them to start taking away things that the average guest who paid to get into the party gets to experience and allowing those only who "upcharged" to experience them (mix and mingle greets, meet and greets whos lines are REALLY long, etc..) I think I read somewhere on here that they were going to start having premium meet and greets in the parks once MM+ was done rolling out (might have just been a rumor, who knows) where guests would have to pay for a meet and greet with, say, Mickey. If they're considering doing that, I could definitely see them doing that with parts of the hard ticket evets.

The resort has long been filled with "extras" that people were welcome to pay for...and that the "average" guest could not experience without paying the price. Interesting that this is where people start to get upset.

I would really like to dine at the Crystal Palace, but I have no desire for the "upcharged" character aspect of that restaurant, so now I am never able to enjoy that dining location. Where is the outrage on my behalf?! (I am only sort of joking.)

I've also been annoyed as a passholder that, unlike the Christmas party parade, there is never any opportunity to see the Halloween parade outside a hard-ticketed event. As a passholder, hard-ticketed events annoy me on principle! :p

The hard-ticketed event within a hard-ticketed event is where they crossed the line for many people. What's next? Maybe the characters can scan your Magic Band and bill you $5 each for visiting your table?

Well they are..mix & mingle shows are being cut. If they brought in a special set of villains for this like they had Saturday at the unleashed event it may be worth it. I just don't see $99 in value here

Great points. I think where it really bothers us is in the wording. This is being touted as a "Premium event" which seemingly implies that ordinary folk just can't have it. With that there is an almost intentional dig at people who don't buy the package.

I am just a third party looking at this. I have never been to MNSHHP, and have never bought a premium package anything that I am aware of :) But, if I were attending, and if it were just a friend who was also paying her/his own way and I, and if we just wanted a little bonus fun... sure, I might consider paying for this, particularly if I sensed it might get me away from crowds.

As a family person, there's no way after paying admission to MNSSHP that I'd dish out an extra $99/family member. By the way... do they charge for the 2 year olds? (betting not)

People frequently point out that the hard ticketed event tickets are cheaper than a regular day ticket and you can enter the park early and enjoy attractions with the regular park guests. So how is this dessert party really that different than the Wishes! party they already sell or the Fantasmic! dessert party at Disneyland?

You always need a ticket to enter the park...and then you pay more for "premium" experiences once inside.

Happens all day every day.

The one point I will concede is that it is not good customer service to cut one of the villains shows at the same time as initially offering this premium event.

So Uni crossed that line as well (some years ago, I suspect) with the HHN add on express passes, RIP Tours and such?

The "wrong" thing about upcharges for me is when they take away from what would/should be available to those not paying the upcharge. Allowing pay for express pass/fastpass/flash pass is, IMHO, the worst cash grab there is. And Uni and Six Flags and Cedar Fair and everybody else does it but Disney. I hope Disney doesn't start, and think that we'd bash the heck out of 'em if they did. But the others don't get held to that standard.

As a parkgoer, I want Disney to make the best use of the park assets they can without hurting the experience of the plain ole guest. Wild Africa Trek, the early morning safaris, backstage tours, late night Epcot wind-down, hard ticket events when the park would otherwise be closed, Harambe Nights, special food events, and evening EMH (extending beyond normal closing time) all pose no concerns for me.

Morning EMH I don't like much because it screws up the lines for "regular" guests. And allowing people to pay for prime viewing locations that would otherwise be available to regular guests -- I don't like either.

But the mere fact that an already hard ticket event has upgrades possible doesn't bug me. Until they take away from what would/should otherwise be available to regular hard ticket event people. Of course, determining what would/should be available is a judgment at times, but it's pretty easy when it's something that was available in the past, and is being taken away this year.

I think I should at this point divulge that I am just a third party looking at this. No, but 3-9yr olds are the same price as adults for this one. o_O (as aside they've sold out 10/23 and 10/31 already, supposedly only 70 spots each seating)

They need to add "Tour of Cinderella Castle Suite" to make this remotely worth while. The Wishes Dessert party is $25, Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table is $73. This is more than both of those combined and you're not getting dinner. It's absolutely ridiculous.

As an annual passholder, I look at it differently when it comes to the hard ticketed event. I don't compare to a regular day ticket.

I totally agree! As long as idiots pay for these extra prices things, they will keep offering them. Any guesses on what extra charge/package they will be offering for the Christmas parties? LOL

Well if I was pitching one?

The Santa Claus dessert party.

Limited attendance. Private meet and greet and photo of your child on Santa's lap.

$99 a person. Or more.

I'm not a fan of Universal Express at all. I think it's perfectly fine to offer as a perk to onsite hotel guests, but don't think it's right that they sell it separately for an additional charge. Wouldn't go so far as to say it's the worst cash grab there is...might have prior to this morning though. :)

I'm not ed. I'm not going to the party. I have no dog in this fight. But way Disney is aggressively reaching into guests' pockets these days for any loose change that may be left leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's an ugly trend that makes me worry for the future of the resort. Where does it end? Disney keeps pushing the line back. Eventually, they will reach a point where even you might say they have gone too far. But probably not.
The thing is Disney isn't reaching into anyone's pocket. They are putting a product on a table and asking for money.

Televangelists get people to send them money...often people who have very little to give. People in Vegas are suckered in by "Double Your Paycheck" advertisements by some of the seedier casinos. Sometime's relieving fools of their money isn't the right thing to do...even if it is legal and doesn't involve a gun to ones head.
You're taking the argument to the extreme. Comparing Disney to what is essentially stealing is a bit overboard. If someone wants to buy something or throw money at something they can't afford, then it is the consumers issue, not the supplier of the product.
