Disney Dreams review...reaction...thing
Fairy Godmother
(Well Okay it's the blue fairy but still plays the same role)? Check. Girl who is (briefly) uncertain about dreams? Check. Intro that mentions this happening once before? Check.
Welp folks, we got it. The official sequel to the best musical: Steps in Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But in all seriousness this thing does everything that Steps in Time tried to do complete with a story all about believing in dreams but does it much better. First of all it's cohesive which is always a plus. The relationship between Peter Pan and Ann is charming, they have a bit of a rivalry but it isn't overplayed like the one that the fairy godmother and Alex
(I think I only remember his name because of the Under the Sea segment tbh) had. A whole new world is still sung, but the child character doesn't sing with Aladdin and it's very very brief. Also key words here: The child is played by an adult actress, so
way less awkward, plus Aladdin himself singing it is better than the uhh... very adult fairy. I also like how the main character leads herself to finding more about dreams and exploring these worlds rather than having to be lead all the time by Peter Pan, which is a plus compared to people just having to question how Alex learned his lesson when he basically was just tossed into random situations by someone else. The song segments are also better spaced apart as multiple from one movie is put in to tell a small story, which helps the pacing a bit and the transitions actually make sense this time! There's also a better incentive for keeping dreams in this as well compared to Steps in Time: that being her wanting to fly and the fear of growing up. Which is a whole lot better than keeping dreams because.... you're fighting with your brother? Yeah I don't get it.
Overall a very charming play, very cute and everything Steps in Time should have been.
However, Under the Sea isn't a fever dream in this, therefore reduces all goodness points 0/10
