There was so much at Boma that I couldn't pick a favorite, but dessert was great. My advice is to make multiple trips to the buffett and try one of everything (what I did). It took me three or four plates, but when I got done I felt like a much more cultured person!
I'm not in D23, though I considered joining. A lot of the fun seems to take place at the meet-ups/events, but I simply live too far away to participate in those. It seems like a lot of fun (and some very decent magazines) but I can't justify the purchase of the membership. That said, it definitely appeals to a lot of people, and I think you may like it, as the magazines you get from it really are stellar. However, with upcoming home improvement projects, vacations, and a new car (albeit used, from a relative), I really don't want to be spending unless it's an absolute necessity.
