Surprise! Red Tier Now Begins Sunday; Downtown Disney Restaurants???

I guess no one read the article that this is about covid restrictions that have been loosened earlier than folks were expecting. It’s also about ICU modeling, which is dependent on things like how many doctors and nurses are available.

This all seems so unnecessary. I love supporting my local sushi restaurant, but they do takeout. I’m perfectly happy enjoying sushi at home without adding additional risk to myself and the employees. Seems like the best way to support local businesses at this time.

Current vaccines are around 95% effective, so it depends on how many people get the vaccine and how many COVID cases are in the community. Number of cases is more important than vaccination levels (see, Australia)

Once the cases go down, of course. No one wants lockdowns and masks.

Surprise! Red Tier Now Begins Sunday; Downtown Disney Restaurants???

We're talking about preventing future deaths. Dining at Downtown Disney isn't closed because of the past deaths, but because of the deaths that will happen if cases continue to rise (currently one every 10 minutes in LA county). We have a new variant of covid in CA that may be 70% more...

Masks aren’t 100% effective. Health care workers have to get fitted to make sure their masks work correctly. Masks are better than no masks, but we won’t be through this until vaccine distribution moves forward.

You're also assuming hospitals keep functioning, which isn't the case at the moment. And what you haven't reckoned with - these deaths are preventible. There is an effective vaccine. If we can survive another couple of months, everyone can get vaccinated and not get covid and die.

So you wrote lots of text, but didn't engage with my argument. You can wear masks the entire time you are in Target, but not while you're eating dinner. You need to buy groceries, not eat in a restaurant. These seem like clear differences. Therefore...it's not arbitrary. The state is trying its...

Restaurants=no masks when eating and mixing of different households. That seems to make sense to me

Surprise! Red Tier Now Begins Sunday; Downtown Disney Restaurants???

While you're arguing how silly the restaurant restrictions are - there are only 30 ICU beds left in LA county, and we clearly haven't hit a peak in hospitalizations What would you do instead of the restaurant restrictions? There are limits to what the government can do. How would you convince...

So...OC ICU beds at 3% https://ochca.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/cc4859c8c522496b9f21c451de2fedae. Guess we're not arguing about Orange County being so special any more. And the shots of an empty Downtown Disney are the entire point why dining is restricted-it's gotten lots of...

Surprise! Red Tier Now Begins Sunday; Downtown Disney Restaurants???

I completely agree that we're dealing with a systematic failure of government, and I can't fault people for trying to make a living. But, if a film set is testing everyone on staff, that is a different risk level from a restaurant where anyone from the community can eat. Why can't we have...

Surprise! Red Tier Now Begins Sunday; Downtown Disney Restaurants???

Why doesn't the government provide support to businesses, instead of them being forced to stay open in a pandemic? It seems depressing that the only choice these small businesses have is to remain open and risk their employees and communities. The sooner case levels drop the sooner we can reopen...

    Disneyland To Open Sept. 16th?

What are you talking about? What evidence do you have for such a crazy statement?

    Disneyland To Open Sept. 16th?

This isn't accurate. Even through there is a lot of complexity, the COVID death rate is probably 10 times higher than the flu (https://www.denverpost.com/2020/08/06/justin-fox-the-not-so-great-covid-19-versus-flu-comparison/). There are also lots of people who haven't been exposed. There are...
