Except if everybody who wants the vaccine has received it, why would there be need for lockdowns and masks? Do vaccines not work?
Current vaccines are around 95% effective, so it depends on how many people get the vaccine and how many COVID cases are in the community. Number of cases is more important than vaccination levels (see, Australia)

California is known for nutty Anti-Vaxxers who famously contributed to bringing back The Measles at Disneyland itself. I think Covid will have to just burn through the population.

It’s known for anti vaxxers because that’s what happens when you take peoples rights away. California is the only state (maybe Jersey too?) that requires vaccinations for kids to go school with no exceptions except for nearly impossible to obtain medical exemptions (due to doctors fear of losing their license) and then that exemption still ultimately needs to be verified by a government appointed medical examiner.

I don't know who these people are who are still calling for anti-plague protocols even when the plaque is over, but you certainly got them on the run!

Especially since they can't run.

Being straw men and all.

No, California had incredibly lax vaccine requirements. Those changed in part because of the measles outbreak at Disneyland.

And with the way vaccines are getting prioritized due to how much they can produce, we won't see the effects of vaccinations on the number of cases until at least the beginning of summer when the vaccines are expected to be available to anyone who wants it.

https://www.latimes.com/california/...ike-in-coronavirus-cases-post-christmas-surge

It will only be when 70% to 85% of the population has received the vaccine, which Kim-Farley estimates will occur by early summer, that “true herd immunity will begin to be reflected in a more rapid drop in the numbers of new cases in the population,” Kim-Farley said. “By late summer or early fall, we should be able to get back to a semblance of our life in the pre-COVID era with greatly reduced restrictions on our activities, businesses and schools.”

And as more of the elderly and people in nursing homes are vaccinated, “we should see some drops in hospitalizations and deaths because residents in nursing homes make up such a larger percentage ... of all deaths due to COVID,” Kim-Farley said. But there might be a delay in seeing a large drop in new daily cases, “since so many younger people are now coming down with the disease.”

AS stated and alluded to by countless people here and our own politicians... if it saves even ONE LIFE... so, by those standards, Disneyland should never open again, unmitigated indoor dining should forever be closed, and we should never stop wearing masks.

THAT is what worries people, the writing is on the wall. Ending this has been defined as being so unattainable it's frightening. Heck, someone do the math, but with expected numbers involving the vaccine, is a yellow or green tier even attainable as defined by the state of CA? (Though apparently the tier system doesn't matter anymore?)

No. Stop making this out to be the Apocalypse.

Right now is no time to be reopening Disneyland. Hospitals are full. This means if you need the emergency room and call an ambulance you are staying in that ambulance until a spot opens up. Which increases your likelihood of not surviving. And also, incidentally, takes an ambulance out of commission until you can be unloaded.

Why is Disney World open if it’s too dangerous right now? Why is Florida doing so much better at this pandemic than California? Why has Gavin Newsom failed as Governor to protect his people while Ron DeSantis has saved countless lives and livelihoods? What’s the difference between thousands of dead in a locked down California and millions living in a free Florida?

Walt Disney World is open out of pure desperation. The Orlando economy is completely dependent on tourism, and even Disney is worried about what will happen if people from Orlando just up and move out of state. That doesn't mean it's safe to be open, and there have been anecdotal reports of people returning from Florida vacation with COVID. They get to play the numbers game though, and claim that no one has tested positive at WDW, since people aren't testing positive until they come home. Or claim that employees aren't getting it at work, but getting it at the Wawa instead.

Being open doesn't mean it is safe. Being open doesn't mean it should be open.

“Less worse” is just negative speak for “doing better.”
Florida is doing only slightly better. All the bad indicators have been going up and are still climbing. It can still pull ahead.

Remember when there was proud boasting that FL got its positivity under 5%?

Great time to be in the Orlando area for the holidays!

I'm sure the spike in hospitalizations and deaths are just from motorcycle accidents.

Tell me not to go to Halloween parties, or visit families on Thanksgiving and Christmas?! The nerve!!

Q: When was the absolute worse time to go to WDW during the pandemic?

A: Christmas week.... so far.
