SPOILERS: The Mandalorian Season 2 Discussion

Not that I disagree, but couldn’t you argue that A New Hope basically was a Western set in space?

Space Western meets Samurai. A lot of Mando draws off some classic Samurai stories, which were also inspiration to Lucas.

The Ashoka episode was pure samurai it felt like a kurosawa movie in places and was definitely my favourite episode to look at, the art direction was so beautiful.

I’m torn between that one and the Boba Fett one for my overall favourite from the last series. Seeing Boba go through two squads of stormtroopers was pure child geek out heaven. Each episode had its good points though - Series 3 will have a hard mountain to climb to beat this year

So curious about all of your takes. BoBF and Mando will be in the same timeline. So will Ashoka. Kenobi will be in a preceding timeline which opens up a lot of opportunities with earlier characters and could be fun to watch. IMHO I think that they will find a way to retcon the mess that were the sequels. What would you like to see happen with the franchise?

I'd like to see a Luke-Mara series. Depending on where Luke's character goes here...and he could very easily wind up in BoBF or the Ashoka series - or remain a part of Mando. I do think they will have to recast Luke to make it work. And honestly, I'm okay with that - if done right and being overseen by Lucas, Favreau and Filoni.

"Is that an R2 Unit?" - "No way are they going to do this", "I mean, maybe they will - could they?", "Wait, Wait, Wait, this isn't going to happen", "Huh....looks like a Jedi", "One Saber you say?", "OMFG it's him", "Holy Sh*t", "ITS F*CKING HAPPENING!", "Force Crush", "WOW", "OMG R2"

Then I had a nice stiff Macallan to cap the night.

I thought the zahn books weren’t great on story...to predicable/rehashed...

But now Star Wars fans beg for it like it’s Don Quixote...

That shows you how bad the 99-2019 era really has been.

Interestingly enough, It wasn't just a geezer moment for us 40yr old plus nerds. It was moment for most everyone. And that is where Disney star wars goes off the rails. Disney thought only the original fans cared about the legacy of star wars and the Original trilogy. A lot of people on this site said the same. As it turns out, A whole lot of young people went bonkers for this last episode. So in giving us original fans what we wanted, you also gave younger fans what they wanted. It's amazing how that works. It's almost like the original trilogy had a special connection with people.

It was...which is what all the “new and refreshing” advocates never considered: maybe Gen X is the tie that binds for Star Wars?

It’s probably what Lucas missed or loathed the most? That’s why my disappointment is so great with Disney. This was never much of a mystery to solve. While George wanted new kids...Disney decided that the old demographics just weren’t good enough.

We still don't know when season 3 actually is starting - it could certainly still be December 2021 - and it's entirely possible that it may have been one time when the stuff for the investor day was filmed and may have changed in the interim. Not the mention the most logical explanation is that the announcement is that they really wanted to keep Book of Boba Fett a secret and surprise and it might have been a bit of intentional misdirection (which would hardly be the first from a big media company or Disney in particular).

To cite that as a reason with Kennedy being "not involved" seems specious at best. That entire presentation was a well greased machine and revealed whatever information the company wanted to be known and accurate at that time.

Maybe. But considering they will not even start filming until boba has wrapped up, that's going to make things awfully tight to release on the same date. And they could keep boba quiet while still announcing Mando will be back in 2022. Nobody would bat an eye, especially considering everything else coming out. It doesn't make a lot of sense to announce the release date then try and say its really for a different show a week later.

When proof is shown that a majority just don't feel the way you do, you don't take that as a point of data to consider, but as an attack of your core beliefs that must be defended by mocking such data and keep pretending it isn't true.

Is the proof box office results? Because if that is the proof that the majority love the Disney sequels, I have to disagree. Batman v superman made almost a billion, and justice League made almost 700 million. And most can agree they are terrible. The majority of people are either casual fans or just want to go to the movies. If the majority were not upset with the sequels, why did the rise of skywalker do half of force awakens and less than a side story film? That just doesn't scream the majority feels great about them.

You think Disney is happy with the way the sequels turned out? You think they're happy with the end result of GE and decision to forgo anything OT at the parks for the "new vision" of the Sequels?

You think it's just a coincidence that what is sustaining SW right now are characters that identify with the original fan base? I'll wait to see what happens when Disney+ decides to make series around the characters of Broom Boy, Rose Tico, Finn, and the like. Kennedy's vision of the franchise was much different than those of it's fans. For that she deserves ALL the blame.

Your first sentence is pretty much a rhetorical question at this point.

We are all Star Wars fans here...yet we argue in “camps”. It’s obvious now and to fight over mistakes is almost as silly as talking about jar jar binks Oscar credentials.

We should all agree - to varying degrees about missteps and culpability - even if it’s not directly all to Kathy Kennedy.

But we are always ignoring why this fight occurs...it’s the “D” word. People will deny it...but look where we are? If Comcast had bought lucasfilm and made the same movies, cancelled their film Slates, experienced product decline AND made a nondescript land with not universally loved characters in Islands of Adventure....we’d fry them for it in butter here.

I like the Mandalorian. And by everyone's "it's KK's fault" mantra, we should be thanking KK for it.

I think she’s done exactly what was needed with the mandolorian. Watch the new episode of the gallery and it seems it’s clear why it has worked so well.

I had people here claim 8 was “just like empire” in the aftermath. But I prefer to watch my movies NOT blindfolded and with ear plugs in so I’ll disagree.

The prequels are awful...but they’re better. I won’t say that out loud too much. It’s still embarrassing.

What other evidence? Boarding groups at MGM? Go figure...parks that Bob let stagnante by not being consistent in reinvestment don’t prove much. It’s like throwing a chicken leg into a baby pool filled with piranha.

Merchandise is another thing to look at. The Force Awakens did well. The hype was big, there was a lot of pent up longing for new star wars. But after that, you see a very large downturn in merchandise demand. Fast forward to the Mandalorian and the demand for baby yoda merch and mando merch is huge. I've brought up galaxys edge a lot. If the sequels were that loved, we would have seen lines backed up to Georgia when it opened. Instead we saw people staying away like I've never seen. And the whole, but both rides weren't open yet, argument is nonsense. If star wars fans cared, they would have shown up with no rides open. But they didn't show up, and even with the headliner, they don't stay if they don't get a boarding pass.

not just because she was “in charge” but because of things directly steered and included initiatives she lead and championed. Many of the things people didn’t like about the sequel output she praised. Her direct involvement is seen. That is how she gets a bad rep from them... not just because “shes in charge”

contrast that with mandalorian where others have been shown to be the champions of things people like. And those people predate her leadership. They brought the ideas to her... she just approved them. Its clear the good people want to praise did not originate from her. And the ideals they praise, are almost polar opposites from what the KK lead sequels did.

I know I'm pulling this way off topic, but This is where ill completely disagree. I'm no huge fan of the new trilogy, but as people started saying that, I decided to check it out again (having not seen it since I was a teenager). I couldn't finish the 2nd one. Now maybe the third prequel movie is amazing and makes up for the first 2. But number 1 is worse than anything in the sequels by a lot, and 2 isn't much better.

I guess you pick your poison. We just did a chronological watching of all the movies. It really is a toss up for sure. I lean to the prequels because it has a cohesive story. And they have more "star warsy" moments in my opinion. The sequels just don't have that emotional endgame for me. At least the prequels bring us to the OT. All the sequels bring us to is uncertainty.

Actually all the DT did was produce unoriginal copies of the OT...just with nothing inventive (which makes it worse based on the financial resources) and sloppy, thin characters
