Thanks for the information and helping clear it up. It sounds like bad reporting from that website. The statement you quoted is consistent with what I read elsewhere.

I think the government and policy makers have to do a good job to transition the mitigations instead of holding firm once herb immunity is within grasp. I just feel a lot of people have reached a point of substantial Covid Fatique (irrespective of whether anyone feels it is justified or not, I just think that's the case and it is what it is) that they mentally will not be able to handle prolonged restrictions once the warm weather starts to arrive again and the vaccine starts to take an affect on the population. IMO it will be in everyone's best interest to smoothly transition and gradually loosen mitigation and actually show people this is really ending while not being irresponsible over it. It would also help if these policy makers can just articulate things better.

He is not in anyway saying this is a dictatorship and in no way he is making anyone believe he is the supreme leader. Just stop it.
What he is saying that this is what the science tells us. We need to try and adhere to it as much as possible to get things back to what we all want.
You don’t need to go on a constitutional rant every time a scientist speaks about what’s best for the country. Maybe is we listened a lot earlier to them we wouldn’t be looking at 300,00 lost lives right now and climbing steadily.

He's not speaking from a power trip. He's speaking as a scientist who has an educated understanding of how the numbers and risk for infection are likely to go as we move through the year.

The good news is that if people stop wearing masks, the numbers will tell us whether or not they're being smart.

The bad news is there will be some empty seats at the dinner table if people's own decisions that they're done with the virus are wrong.

I would think a more patriotic and socially concerned attitude would be "I sure hope things improve quickly enough that I don't have to wear masks this summer, but you know what, if it helps get this behind us faster, I'm gonna do what's necessary. And, gosh darn it, thank goodness we have some of the smartest scientists in the world who have dedicated their lives for just this thing. They've been pretty right so far, so let's listen to what they have to say."

I don't have time right now but maybe someone can find the transcript, audio or video of exactly what Desantis said in context. I also believe that article is quoting something from before the EUA was issued.

Either way, by Florida law the "State Health Official" (who I think is the surgeon general) is the one who should be making these decisions. I don't know what is going on officially but it could be that Desantis is just making announcements but isn't making decisions.

That sort of decision should ONLY be by the drug company along with the FDA, it would be stupid to give a medication in a way other then what is prescribed by the manufacturer.

I think the question was how much of the vaccine should be distributed right now. The Times article I read indicated there was some disagreement about whether supply at the federal level should be withheld right now. The feds decided to do so to be cautious, but others thought they should send out more. It didn't indicate anything about some wanting to administer the dose not according to the manufacturer protocols.

What the "science" tells us about what? Getting cases to zero? Deaths to zero? We don't "mitigate" for other diseases that don't meet that metric.

You are focusing on "masks." I'm focusing on the part about no large indoor gaherings and social distancing (translation: restrictions).

I subscribe to the show not tell test. If you have to provide your educational background, you've obviously made some missteps in presenting your case.
