...some aren’t understanding
The mitigation efforts will be done by mid-2021. Why? Because people will just stop doing them. I'm not saying that's right. I'm just saying what I believe to be reality. No matter how much you try to educate people, no matter what the numbers look like, and no matter how many mandates are issued, there is going to come a point at which people just say, "screw this, I'm not doing it anymore" and stop. It's going to happen.

No way, I bought a pack of 50 masks at the start and still have 35 or so left. I think mid 2022 I will be out.

I can’t disagree.

Someone...maybe “several”ones...should be brought up on crimes against humanity for causing this malaise.

Pandemic over! Let's all go to Disney World! :)
They did miss a huge marketing opportunity. If Disney got to her they could have planted an ABC reporter to ask the question “now that you’ve gotten the Covid vaccine what are you going to do next” and her answer would have been “I’m going to Disney World!” Actually, they could still do it, but if they use the idea I think we should both get a lifetime supply of Dole Whip and unlimited rides in the front car of the monorail ;)

I read that as him saying he thinks just getting the first dose is enough. Really frightening stuff. I would hope that the hospitals and medical professionals involved in administering the vaccinations would not follow that even if he says he wants to do that. It’s also going to cause a certain percent of the people to not show up for the second dose since the Governor is saying 1 dose is enough to make the difference. If that’s not what he meant by those comments he needs to get out there now and say what he really meant.
I wish there was additional reporting on what he said. That article is the only place I can find that quote. If that's what he said/meant, it seems odd that apparently no other reporters picked up on it. Prior reporting on Florida's plan doesn't seem to indicate they're only planning for one dose either.

A lot of people took that attitude here and in the real world in April.

Even if we take what we think he said away.. how is this man still in office? Bit of sarcasm yes but he is definitely out there.

I hope that’s true. The article points to his comment as a reference to the fact that FL received less doses than they originally thought they were going to get so this was a possible solution to that problem. The op Ed piece in The NY Times he refers to specifically lays out a plan to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible with the first dose and not give the second dose until supplies are plentiful which could be 6 months or more later. It seemed like an off the cuff comment similar to the Trump bleach injection one where he was just talking out his rear end. Leave the science up to the scientists. If you have to start the sentence saying that the FDA and Pfizer wouldn’t agree with you that’s the point where you lose me. We finally have a way out of this mess, just get out of the way and let the people who know what they are talking about handle the vaccinations.

I agree that the first half of 2021 is pretty much shot. I do however feel the midsummer portion of the year we will start seeing real change and loosening of mitigation efforts. Come fall 2021 I think we are back to the full normal. So I don't think it's fair to say 2021 is totally shot, let's start living with some real optimism, we can sure use some now with this year finally coming to a close.

No way, I bought a pack of 50 masks at the start and still have 35 or so left. I think mid 2022 I will be out.
I think it definitely depends on what state youre in too. Here in CA, LA county specifically, I dont expect things to have normality until the Fall. But we have a higher population and high density areas.

No question. And it really boils down to have much and how quickly we can get the population adequately vaccinated in order to reach herd immunity. That's likely not to happen until some point in the 2nd half of 2021 but certainly I would imagine before the very end of 2021. The push towards herd immunity is of paramount importance not just for the health and safety of society but also for the economic well being of several industries that are relying on this vaccine push to get their businesses back to normal. It's going to really depend on how local governments are able to organize and distribute the vaccine. I still think we see masks and mandates gone by fall 2021.
