Rumor Version of MaxPass coming to WDW in May?

Some of us with on-site stays have been able to book Fastpasses on a rolling basis beginning at 74 days before arrival.
It works if you have date-specific tickets, I couldn't get it to work with annual passes. I have a reservation in May and 2 of us have APs and the others have 3 day tickets. If I select everyone in the party it lets me get FPs, but if I only select the 2 with APs it gives me an error, even though we're all on the same room reservation.

There’s no rhyme or reason. Plenty of AP people have been able to do it as well.

My party has a combination of AP's and 3rd-party tickets purchased prior to the date-specific thing going into effect.

I don't really understand it - just sharing what my experience has been. The two of us with APs wanted to head over to DHS and ride SDD on our arrival day, the 18th. If I select just us for FPs that date is not available yet. If I select everyone, the date is available and I can select the FPs for SDD but then it says I must remove the people with 3 day tickets because they're not valid until the 19th. And then it just errors out. So for my reservation, it has something to do with the date-specific tickets.

I have zero faith that making FP reservations will ever be as easy as it should be at WDW. They've over-complicated the FP/Ticket system to the point of being ridiculous, and adding a paid FP option is only likely to make it worse. They need to stop trying to rescue a faulted system they spent too much on from the beginning, re-prioritize, and start over...and this time, make sure the system can't be manipulated by people wanting to game it.

Unfortunately folks will find ways to game any system. Nothing is 100% fool proof.

I do think there is a market for a 100% planned option as well. I realize @marni1971 has indicated that the future here is probably 'package' based and incremental FP+, but I would be game for a solution that let me plan my full day, maybe limit it to one attraction per hour.

I would pay for that for some of my days, but not all.

That’s the question though. Will we be able to book some kind of package for just some days? Or will it have to be for all days? I’m hoping the CL “trial” that’s still ongoing means it can be for just some days, maybe with a minimum number of days.

For a two week stay for the family (4 of us), at $20 a day, that’s an extra $1100+ dollars on top of tickets. And for most days it really won’t be necessary. We’d only use it for Galaxy’s Edge.

If it's implied that the paid FP will go with a package, then that would end up excluding: anyone staying offsite, booking a room through a travel site, renting DVC, staying DVC, AP holders, and plenty of others. Would Disney want to exclude that many when they could make more offering it to anyone with park tickets? Or am I just really tired and confused? 😴

You’re confused. It’s not as part of a resort and tickets package. It’s an add-on.

An option strongly hinted at is that there will be FP deals available to buy. And Martin suggested these would be available to everyone’s their own booking window.

Think back to the trial last summer (?) where you could buy tickets with certain groups of FPs attached: like ISASW, Dumbo and Under the Sea or BTMRR, Pirates and JC.

Well instead, once you’ve bought your tickets, if you can’t get an FP for FoP then you can buy a premium “experience”. Unclear if that will be a set combination - both Star Wars rides, or the ability to book any 3 shiny new FPs etc.

Thanks! That makes more sense - I couldn't see Disney excluding such a large group. So if you don't book anything with Disney, will you still be able to get the add-on? I would think so, since you link your res. and tickets to a Disney account, anyway. I may be answering my own question at this point, lol.

I'm going to put my horrible money-grubbing sales hat on and suggest the following sales-centric concept:
  1. Customers can use the app to book FastPasses whenever they want within their window. Some will book the moment their window opens, but perhaps like airline tickets, people don't want to book too far ahead.
  2. When, at your "convenience", you go online to book - say a week out, you find that you can't get that FoP FastPass for next Tuesday afternoon. But under this new system, the app will offer you a $19.99 x 3 day package that will get you 2 Tier-1 FastPasses a day, including the FoP for Tuesday afternoon that you were looking for.
  3. Similarly, when you're in the park and looking for a Tier-1 to ride in MK, the app will offer you $8.99 SDMT FastPass to use right now.

The (sad) idea would be to offer people what they want when they want it, but at a price. This way, you maximize the amount of money they are willing to pay since you're hitting them when they are the most weak-willed. They would be almost predatory to the consumer like bank overdraft fees, credit-card interest rates, payday loans, and the 10% fee advance ATMs at Atlantic City.

This will likely be pretty expensive. We just got back from Dollywood, a nice regional theme park in East Tennessee. The price point for their timesaver pass is $40 per person. The $160 for a family of four keeps usage very very low and makes it worth the cost.

I don’t know if this sheds any light on how they will price this, but I expect it to be enough that most will have to consider the value before just clicking “yes.”

Keep in mind Disney has having NO problems charging $600/hour for a VIP tour. The primary benefit of which is unlimited access to the Fastpass lines, not even "front of line" access. Can't imagine they are going to eat into this exceptionally lucrative business by offering a pass that will even come close to this.

Eh...... they can make plenty of money having people buy unlimited FP in the app without having to pay individual Guest Relations employees to ferry people around to various FP lines.

Plus they can find other ways to differentiate the “VIP Tour” product.

At the end of the day, this willl probably cannibalize some VIP Tour sales, but I doubt it will be major enough to stop TDO from doing it.

$8.99 for SDD FP? Sold

Come on. Disney knows there is a market for this. They've tried out parties. They've tried out cabanas. They've tried out special EMM and DAH times. I'm surprised FPs were ever free, honestly.

The tour product is one of the issues but they’re not going to sell an “unlimited” Fastpass. Yes they’ll monetize the product but it’s not going to be like Universal’s product (or anywhere close to it).

Several months ago, while visiting a certain office in Celebration, I was told that a fairly faithful copy of DLP's version of the super/ultimate fastpass was potentially coming to WDW (albeit in a modified electronic form that removes the hole punchers they currently use at DLP). I'm guessing this is it...
