Bloat and indecision. Fewer people are involved so you get things done faster.

As for cost, would it be safe to assume that when any company hears "Disney" the cost for things likely goes up?

Disney bids out various portions of projects to different vendors, from prop manufacturing to architecture and engineering services.

Nothing against Mystic Manor, but couldn't it have worked just as well as an omnimover?

I think it was said there are different tracks through the attraction. Omni would be a fixed track

It does have 3 different versions. There are 11 show scenes and each ride goes through 9 of the 11 scenes based on the version they get, at least from what I have heard. The variation makes good use of the trackless system.

In fairness I also don't think Ratatouille uses the trackless system as well as some other trackless rides. Hunny Hunt especially has the Hephalump scene that can't be done any other way.

People that have ridden both, seem to generally prefer Mystic Manor. I've only been on Hunny Hunt and it's a lot of fun, but I'd argue that it's a coinflip with Ride and Go Seek (not trackless) for dark rides in that park.

You are correct that NFL does appeal to the younger crowd but the sea of strollers is not only there. We visit weekly and are shocked at the age of some of these stroller passengers. At least half of them should be transitioned out of their strollers. Many articles suggest this should begin at age 3.

And yet you see 5-7 year olds being pushed around in strollers...

Most of the time, isn't that just accomplished by having the vehicle point at a stunt on one side of the track and not turning on the effects or lighting up the other? If that's the goal, you could do the same thing by having an omnimover swivel one way instead of the other.

The ending scene is in the brake zone and you have to crane your neck to even see Snow White dancing.

We got lucky to have that, imo. Have you seen Shanghai's 7DMT ending?

Having an Omnimover do what you propose would be more complicated: Omnimovers run on a long infinite coaster like track and the cars turn by having the third rail change position. This is determined during design and the track fabricated based on what the show designer want. Only way you could have different orientations for cars would be to have a mobile 3rd rail in spots and this lead to a whole different set of challenges.

The ride system for Symbolica was designed and built by ETF Systems from the Netherlands. I can't reveal publically the cost, but its reasonable enough that a regional park such as Lake Compounce could replace its bus bar based cars for a fleet of trackless 4 passenger cars for Ghost Hunt.

Looking at the ETF website here: http://www.etf.nl/ride-systems/products . I figure Symbolica use the Multi-Mover. The track bound Multi-Mover was used to great success on the awesome "Maus au Chocolat" dark ride at Phantasialand.

Mystic Manor blows this away, imo.

On another note it's nice to see Efteling getting some love in this thread. It's a wonderful park. Talking about the price, part of the reason they keep costs down is they have to. They simply can't burn through money like Disney. Also their design team is very small with very little overhead. With only one park, they are typically only working on 1 or 2 attractions at a time. A lot of their attractions employ simple tricks like Disney used to do, which keep the cost down. You won't see groundbreaking attractions out of Efteling. Instead they concentrate on execution.

The fixed rail has been replaced by digital programming. That’s how you get issues like this video @marni1971 has posted.


So you could aim different vehicles at different scenes. Seeing and hearing those other scenes would probably be the bigger challenge.

The reason you're not seeing a 5th gate, Beastly Kingdom, etc aren't because Disney didn't/doesn't have the scratch for it. They could build a 5th and 6th gate right now...they just won't.

Correct, By no means do I agree with the buybacks as I think Disney should have simply banked the excess cash as many other companies have as this gives them the flexibility to weather a crisis or immediately act on an acquisition

But if only 5% of the buyback fund went back into the parks we would be in a far better place

Everytime I watch that video it just reminds me how Mystic Manor is screaming to be cloned for Epcot, but with a Figment/Dreamfinder overlay.
