Good morning, Figgy.

(It's hot up here, too--ridiculous for this time of year.

The conferences weren't really bad except for one. A parent with a Special Ed kid claims I wasn't following the IEP; I have been. I've had this kid for two years, nothing has changed in the IEP. I'm doing everything for this kid I've done for two years. Anyway the parent had a list of accommodations she wanted her student to have none of them are accommodations on the IEP, and really not needed by this student. For most of these accommodations the parent wants the student would need to be in the resource room with the Special Ed teacher but when I pointed that out the parent flipped and said she doesn't want her child to leave my room. Ugh, it was just so frustrating but be accused of not doing my job and having the parent change her mind all the time. The kid is an average student but I think this mom thinks she should be a solid A student.
I just don't know what this woman wants, but I do have to meet with her again tomorrow, this time with my boss and the special ed teacher. And even more frustrating the parent is a teacher in our district too. Also frustrating, that now that this kid is in high school I have to deal with the high school special ed teacher who will never come into my classroom to help support the students. Sorry for the vent, I'm still a little irritated by it. Thanks guys for letting me vent.
Feel free to vent! And would love to hear how this one works out.
I was likely the biggest pain in the tush myself advocating for my DD with her IEP and they likely praised the Lord when she moved to High School. I've said it before it is why I became a board member. She was non verbal, then verbal but nobody but my friend and her brother could understand, go figure. I enlisted Easter Seals help because the insurance would not pay for Speech because schools were required at age 3 years old for early intervention. School refused to accommodate because they didn't have a slot/time.
With guidance from Easter Seals they had me write a letter requesting a yellow special ed bus pick her up and transport to nearest district at their expense that could accommodate her needs. They rethought it.
During that year we discovered she could read and was reading chapter books at 4 years old. They likely regretted it but did a IQ test on her and it was very high. She only had to be shown a math concept once in most cases and grasped. She prefered to look at a text vs being taught cause it moved so slow for her and she found text clearer. Yet the speech interfered with spelling and higher level vocabulary words along with communication. And that is where her IEP started conflicting with their Gifted Program. That kid for years spent so much time out of the classroom I'm surprised her teacher knew her name lol. I realized it was a broken system that needed to be fixed and I couldn't do that as a parent. Enter me running for election. It was baby steps to get movement, getting other members to grasp. I did manage to get our Special Ed overhauled for all those who followed her, most of which only partially benefited my DD by the time it was all implemented.
We are a very small district and I think that also played into the problems with Special Ed here with IEPs and Gifted.
It's still the middle of October are you sure it wasn't something else that was lit up?Lit up the holiday tree last night![]()

excellent, going to leave my Santa card in your tree.
That's great to hear. I hope he is enjoying , working. A really big step for anyone.
We do both, sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce. It's all part of our Thanksgiving feast.
Me too, much more flavorful.I liked that the pork sandwich had more of the mayo this year too. It made me go from like for it to love it!
I'm not sure, but it was open today. So we went in to watch the show. They had a rope across it and it said "closed", nothing else. No one around to ask. Glad it was back open today! What the heck? I looked at the refurb page and it is not on there. Wonder what is up?
Had a weird dream this morning that involved a random harbor seal as my pet then it suddenly died. Then I had to ran up to my home which was apparently an apartment while a loud heavy metal band was playing. Also the Incredibles Family was involved in that dream.
last post, we fly home tomorrow. We made it to the magic kingdom today. Finished up by seeing Tiki Birds , another trip through HM, Small World, and the Hall of President's. Still one of my favorite things to do. It's an eye opener , being this year an election. No political statement....just that things have changed since the founding of our Nation.
