First of all congratulations to you and Mr. Bets for your efforts to control the type 2 diabetes. My hubby is a Type 2, but years ago dropped over 50 pounds, and has worked out for years in the boxing ring. He has been completely off medication for 3 years now, and it's all due to his determination and sacrifice.

As for posting hours, generally our area will post them, but this year they didn't--they sort of "suggested" (and I only read this in the local newspaper a day ago) that they run between 5:30 - 7:30 and to use judgement beyond that time. I would prefer they just stick to a beginning and end time. There are some kids out every year later on, that should not be out and (some--a small minority) of them take part in vandalism. I just think it's easier all around if reasonable time boundaries are set.

As far as I know we don't have posted times, unless it's an event at a mall or something. I think some of the really little ones come out before it gets dark, so maybe starting around 4 or 5pm, but usually people are out until around 9 or 10pm.

Parties in general for me just aren't fun. I never went to school dances. Not even to prom. I went to one event my senior year and had a miserable time; just too many people. Last week was Homecoming week, and I was like, "Oh that sounds terrible; why would I want to do that?" to every event. I have a social life, but most of it tends to be in small groups. I went out with a group of about 8 people including myself the other night, and that was big for me. A lot of my social life tends to be with 1-3 other people at a time, and I like one-on-one time with people. And then I'm done with them and I go home and watch Netflix all by myself.

This sounds like a party to me! :cat:

My daughter was 9 lb 4 oz 21.5 inches when she was born...also the biggest in the nursery, with a HUGE head, I might add. It was hard getting shirts over her head. But the funniest thing was the woman next to me had given birth several weeks early, so her son was only like 5 lbs....he was HALF the size of my daughter, so even though he was older, DD looked like she was months older than him. But I did the same...I was back in my pre-preg clothes a week after giving birth. I only gained 9 lbs with DD and I lost weight with DS because I was so sick, so I ended up weighing LESS after giving birth than I weighed before I got preg. And my OB swore DS was going to be bigger than his sister and I kept saying no, he was smaller, I could just tell...and I was right. He was only 8.5 lb and the same length.

Are you a vertically challenged person like me too? Yep my DS didn't fit in any of his new born infant clothing or jammies. My second my DD was only 7.8 ounces, Doc warned me she'd be bigger than her brother. Ha! I only gained about 25# with her and she didn't have a big block head so I got to come home from the hospital in 2 days instead of 5 like DS. Swear I could have delivered and walked out but DD was in the NIC unit so they kept me a few days.

@MR FERRET , I like your hat. Too bad the photo doesn't show the rest of your Halloween costume.

That's true. (I actually like Valentine's Day because of hubby, but I recall a number of V. Days down through the years that were miserable, when no one was in my life.) So Valentine's Day is really different for everyone, depending upon their own unique circumstances. ( @ajrwdwgirl , I understand it is a tough day for you, because of your mom.)

As a kid I wasn't too into the holiday, maybe because no one every gave me the big heart shaped box of chocolates I wanted. It didn't really bother me to be without a date thought (I just wanted the candy). And now like I said it reminds me of my mom passing, she actually died on February 13, but it was the first holiday without her.

And your hubby is still none the wiser! ;)

He still doesn't know yet! :) Although I might have to tell him soon. This may sound bad but...a lady in our church is losing her battle with cancer and I'm afraid that when she passes my hubby might schedule the funeral for a date we will be in Disney. So I will just have to keep an eye on the situation. It is getting really close to leaving so no matter when I tell him it will still be a surprise.

Yes, to be surprised is nice, but it's only for a brief moment. The actual trip is the real treat!

Sympathy like. I've lost 3 of my grandparents, but I wasn't close with any of them. I can't imagine losing someone I was close to.

I keep wondering about this...if trick or treating will start earlier because it's Saturday. Can't seem to find any info for my city. I'm guessing they are just letting us sort it out ourselves. But I don't know whether to take the kiddos out early or wait until the usual time.

Our Town Hall sets the time on their website and they usually put trick or treat times out on the Rotary Club sign in the heart of town along with the quarterly newsletter. When my kids were young it was also included in the newsletter from the Principal from school. They tried. We had rain the whole 6 hours of ToT'ing and the last two hours not one kid. I knew it was going to rain when I picked out the stuff. I will have my DD give some to her lifeguards tomorrow, they will eat anything. Sent some to her apartment, a bit here and the rest to DS. If I have more cookies and cheetos left I will put in the food pantry drop box.

Oh, stepgrandfather update:
It's been a long haul, but he's doing much better. He's in rehab right now, but my grandmother says they think he will be able to go home next week. Yea! They were concerned because his blood pressure was dropping when he would stand. My grandmother has a friend who is a pharmacist, and her friend thought about the fact that it could be one of his medications. When her friend went over his medication list, she determined the culprit and gave his doctor an alternative medication idea. He went on the other medication and is no longer having that problem. So that is very good news and quite a relief

And woot for the friend. We have had that issue with my MIL. They kept looking at stomach issues. She has early onset dementia and is on memory drugs. Some of the side effects of the drugs I saw on the commercials were lack of appetite and stomach pains. I suggested talking to the pharmacist instead of the doctors. Some of these Doc's just don't keep up with all the side effects of drugs where the pharmacists do. My DD bestie is in her 5th of 7 years of pharmacy school. I think I know who is more current on drugs. I listen during these commercials to all the disclaimers go blah blah blah but if you are on one of them.......

Ok...I think I just fell in love. Awwwww!

Chesapeake retrievers are one of the most unnoticed breeds of pups. They don't shed like most short haired pups do, they are pretty hypoallergenic yet they have all the qualities of larger breeds. They just have fur that make them look a bit more unruly than labs or retrievers.
