I just usually ask, "how shall I refer to you." That has worked for me.
Or I just don't bring it up.

Sometimes, there's absolutely no need to bring it up. My high school was extremely diverse. Kids, especially Asians, would get offended if you referred to them that way. I learned not to bring up race. Eventually, if it came up or as we were getting to know one another, then they'd tell me. But usually, I didn't bring up the fact that we were different races because you just do not know how they are going to react.

When I ask hispanics, I usually ask in Spanish and they're more eager to talk about it.

Here's an observation - your English is generally better here in Chit Chat, where you are more relaxed, versus your lengthy "debates" in News & Rumours.
When you get agitated, your English skills slip a little, and once in a while I have to ask myself, "What the heck is that pre-adoptive son of mine going on about?"

Grammar lesson - I ended that last sentence with a preposition; but it's okay because I was being colloquial.
Some of those other threads can get very heated quickly.

a little?
I sometimes fear It slips a lot.
I sometimes just go back and re-read, then try to fix the sentences that are broken or those that do not sound exactly how I was imagining them to.

Oddly enough, I never had anyone give me either a manicure or a pedicure. I also wasn't keen on the idea of someone else messing around with my hands and feet. On the other hand, I'll get my hair done professionally by my hairdresser. I really can't figure out what the difference is, but whatever! ;)

I have never done a pedicure, have had one manicure, my Sis arranged for her wedding and didn't enjoy. I can take care of my own needs in that regard. Too many stories of fungus etc that I really didn't buy into the risk. Then I look at the damage done to nails and I'm not doing that on purpose to myself.

Hair I'm more OK with as it doesn't have nerve endings. Though mess with nape of neck and I can get pretty perturbed. I've been blessed with long thick hair. It has been a strange draw to people, especially women over the years. I for the life of me cannot grasp people coming up behind me and start playing with hair. My DD has had the same issue from young. Friends, other parents seem to think it is fair game to play with. :cautious: Then again when prego I had strangers come up and touch my tummy region and say you don't mind do you? And I'm like excuse me you already are...:cyclops: That was so unnerving. Just because I was prego gave people + strangers free rein to start touching me??? :cautious: Much wiser I would have likely belted them now.

Exactly. Then you get the Hispanics who don't speak Spanish.

reminds me of that joke posted online.
where a kid is introduced to the class "Please say Hi to Jammie, he came from Africa.. show respect to him and his culture"

and the Kid is all completely baffled... "but I am from Michigan"

And something tells me that they would not an Office meme or quote.
is that a Yoda argument?

I remember way back when you first shared your good fortune with us. Can't believe it's finally here!!! All of us with you and your daughter the happiest cruise ever!!! :joyfull:

P.S.: I love your departing Easter countdown picture, too. That was adorable!!!

I was talking to my DD about @Moxomund today as that ship was about scheduled to load. It is the same cruise my son took, ports and length of time. I've seen all the photos of the ship, food and adventures he had on that boat and I'm so excited for her.

I was mental when I was pregnant. I didn't allow anyone to touch me, except the doctor. I even hated Mike touching my belly. He used to say, "Hey, it's half mine!" And I would answer, "Then just be sure you're only touching your half!"
I would never mention when the baby was kicking. I wore the loosest clothing available. And I know it was my mother's biggest disappointment that I didn't let her feel the baby, prego-belly-mauler that she was.

That is especially funny. I usually ask that too, and if they don't, there's usually a story to go along with it.

Most of the hispanics I interact with do speak Spanish, though.
I don't speak Spanish. It's a long story. My father speaks it since he was a child, it was his first language. My mother, on the other hand, didn't learn it because they would get hit in school if they spoke it so her older brother sister and brother learned it but she and her other sisters didn't.
My mom went and got her masters in Latin American studies and learned Spanish during her schooling. She then went and taught English as a second language to middle schoolers.
My brother and I never learned it. I often get approached in Florida by Spanish speakers and I can understand it but have a hard time speaking it. I'm kind of embarrassed about it. It is very hard for me to learn.
