You want Disney's number 1 priority to fix things, and I am trying to tell you that is not the top priority right now. Disney has a capacity problem, that needs to be addressed first. I started to explain this in another thread about how bad or cheap disney has become, which I am arguing against.

Fixing and adding more e tickets will only add to the problem of overcrowding. Most of the expansions and upgrades disney is working on focus on crown control, and sustaining the larger number of guests coming back each year.

You will see the capacity of soarin increase, toy story increase, etc... Sorry in the meantime this all means precious soarin will have a little dust. But hopefully in the future the waits will drop.

Disney doesn't have to fix stuff. And I don't have to give them my money. Problem solved.

Sure, isn't that the perception of Disney management? A bunch of rich people wearing suits, sitting in a room laughing at the poor consumers saying things like "Can you believe they are still enjoying soarin', have you seen the film?!" What else can we do to suck more money from them and reduce the quality of our product?

Sorry but I believe there is still passion for the Disney brand. Whether we agree with every decision or not.

TDO appears to be addressing the crowd control problem by allowing things to break and deteriorate rather than having regular maintenance and improvement. Unfortunately, this may result in a growing trend of diminished expectation/repeat-visitation that could be very hard to reverse.

So I am a piece of work for basically agreeing with you? The difference is that this should have been addressed in 2009, not now. Now, with a rumored refurbishment on the way to add the third theater and new film is not the time to simply address this attraction twice.

I did not discount and anybody as not deserving. I simply stated that most people are not as critical as us. I went recently with my in-laws, and they were obvilious to the film - although it was painful for me to enjoy.

Disney is addressing the issues, isn't that what you want?

When stock buy backs that fluffs the wallets of the execs far out pace capital expenditures into their core product, greed really IS the answer.

But there is no show quality check, they leave it up to Operations CM's, which number one priority is guest count throughput, how many guests we can get in and out every hour. So a speck of dust or something is not going to stop them from loading, unless guests start complaining about it, then they will do something about it.

Second... A new print is not a 5 or 10 year capital investment. The idea that we can ignore show quality because 'in the future' there will be a change in the attraction just reinforces that you have No respect for the principles for which the man himself set in motion.

And just how long In your eyes is it acceptable to defer upkeep because you know in the future there will be change? Ruining an attraction into the ground because you know you will be updating it in a few years is not sound business (see space mountain at dl and btmrr at mk).

Abandoning upkeep because there are changes planned for the future is not 'addressing issues'.

When do you really think your digital replacement is going to be in place in epcot?

Unfortunately as Flynn pointed out the vacuum required to move the heavy 15/70mm film also sucks in dust from the room and it gets carried along as the film is moved in its continuous loop. Filters on the intake can help but the Omnimax projector is not a completely sealed unit and is designed to be operated in a clean room environment. Some dust adheres to the glass plate and film gates which daily maintenance can remove. Some becomes embedded in the film stock which requires additional cleaning and occasional stock replacement. 48fps film motion also creates static charges which also collect dust.The air cooling system for some carbon arc lamps also redistributes the dust continuously so without a clean room you are shoveling against the tide. If they exhaust the heat outside of the projection room that air needs to be replaced with fresh dust free air. Some are water cooled which eliminates this. I am not sure which model WDW uses. I am sure someone here knows more than I do.

So forgive me for being somewhat optimist. You can to complain and attack because it 'took too long' - then you can continue to live in the past. It is being addressed now, and it is being addressed in a way that is going to enhance the attraction, rather than just a cleaner film. I would much rather (at this point mind you, not 2010), to have a new theater and film in place than see attempts to clean the current projection that will only get dirty again.

I have no respect? I think everybody that joined this board is familiar with Walt's vision. I think everybody that joined this forum wants to see WDW shine. However, the reality of it is sometimes is things are not perfect. I remember attractions breaking down in the 80s when I was a kid, believe it or not, it did happen then too. I can discuss many faults I observe on my trips to the world. Instead of focusing on what Disney is not doing right, I focus and what they are doing right. And you know what, I bet you I enjoy my trips much better that way, not because soarin' is in better shape when I ride it somehow for just for me, its just that I don't focus on the dust. I focus on the experience of spending time with my 2 little girls -and THAT was Walt's vision.

Despite some of what has been said here I can say (from my own experience) that the film is cleaned a couple of times a day on a regular schedule and if a CM in the theater sees that the film has ghosts (dust and such) they are able to call maintenance and ask them to clean the film. The process takes about 5 mins and I have never heard of maintenance saying no to the request.

Replacing the print is a different issue. Because of the cost of the print there is a schedule based on the approximate number of showings. To replace the film earlier (unless it breaks) requires a manager from maintenance to approve changing out the film but even then if the film is really deteriorated in quality no one has ever said no to doing that.

I understand peoples frustration with the film quality at Soarin (and even other attractions). I have ridden Soarin and have been frustrated at the poor quality of the film on occasion. When I see that I will stop at the desk at the entrance to the attraction and tell the person there that the film was dirty. There is no conspiracy to keeping EPCOT's main attraction from looking its best.

Walt's vision was a spotless and impeccably maintained park.

See, some of us look at it as a vacation destination and are VERY sensitive to criticism of our happy place.

Others are industry professionals whose careers rely of stripping away all that emotional crap and analyzing what is really going on.

Not everyone at WDW is on Vaca and doing everything in their power to avoid critical thinking.
