Secret Haunted Mansion portrait

I'm not sure if this qualifies as News or what, but on a month or so ago, I spotted the outline of a secret picture in the Haunted Mansion. It's actually pretty bizarre. It's hanging on the wall, right as you're leaving the ballroom scene heading into the attic. It would be in plain sight if the lights were on, but as is, it's almost completely invisible.

Last weekend, I finally remembered to take a picture of it with the flash, and it's not all that different from other HM gallery pictures. I posted it over on my blog. Just a creepy woman holding a black cat and some very odd spectacles...

It's probably been there at least since the rehab of a couple years ago, but I have no idea why it's hanging on the wall in pitch blackness, unseen unless you happen to fire off a flash. Any experts here know what the history is with this thing?

I'm fairly certain it's one of the old pictures that was moved. It's always been in the ride, but never in that position.

IIRC, that portrait was once one of the pictures with moving eyes. When the portrait gallery scene was redone during the major refurb, the original pictures were distributed throughout the mansion, most near the load area.

She was one of the "Sinister 11" which were portraits that stared at you as you went down the Portrait Corridor prior to the 2007 refurbishment. Several of them are in the load area now and a few of them are hung on the wall of the staircase right before the "New" Portrait Corridor. (Based on Disneyland's.) The only portrait that did not return was Medusa because she is now a changing portrait and the "After" stage used to be one of the Sinister 11.

Great info, thanks! I wondered if she might have been one of those eyes-that-follow-you pictures. The ones in the loading area are easy to spot. The ones in the staircase are in shadows, but you can tell that there's pictures there. This one just seemed so odd to me because it is practically invisible. I was wondering if they had some special reason for keeping her in the dark.

I think it's because it was the only available flat wall.

I agree with tizzo, I hate it when people take flash photos on the rides, it ruins the experience for the rest of us. Of course I have seen much worse happen on the rides, but it is still rude. Just my opinion.

Yea, as a CM I agree.

There's nothing ruder than a flash picture during a ride that strictly says no flash photography.

And as a guest...

I find the flash photos to be quite rude and obtrusive....but also a necessary evil. How else would we get the really good photos from inside rides like Mansion?:drevil:

Exactly. It's never really bugged me, either. You can never see anything.
