Star Tours, Princesses, Mermaid, DC gate, Pop Century, and more... Oh My!

Awesome post, tirian. I'm gonna go through it piece by piece.

There is no concept of the carousel going anywhere. Dumbo would possibly move, but not the carousel.

Sounds good to me. not that I bother to ride the carousel, but I enjoy it being there.

This list does seem like a list of rumors, but the rumors exist because plans have floated around at various times. Make no mistake, Toontown in its present form IS going away. The land is too valuable to ignore, and the plans have changed many times over the last ten years. It's a matter of WHEN and HOW—and nothing seems to be moving right now.

Now, does this possibly mean a real Toontown? I hoope so.

Plans do exist, and WDI is working hard to push several fantastic projects through in the MK. Everybody, including execs, knows that the park suffers capacity issues; but certain individuals are unwilling to press the "Go" button to get this stuff done. Poor management? Oh, yes.

I know some people have accused a certain Mac Sandwich at the happy boards of proclaiming that nothing's coming to the MK, but that's not true. He said that the plans DO exist, but they haven't received the full greenlight. That corresponds to the information that many others, including our Lee and Martin, have received. We need to keep hoping that Lassetter and others ignore "As-long-as-it's-a-timeshare-I'm-happy-because-I-don't-know-what-the-he11-I'm-doing" Rasulo and push the plans forward.

I have faith in John. Honestly the guy knows what he is doing, and he has the passion that is needed to get it done.

As for the capacity issues, I remember when I brought it up a few months ago, I was shouted down as "not knowing what I was talking about" by the fanboys. I'm usually not one to call people out, but I enjoy vindication.

But the current outside facade fits the land. If they do go ahead with the complete reboot of FL, I could understand the justification of it. However, I do not see a need to complete change it when it works well right now.
Very true. Hopefully FL would be getting a revamp soon, though...;)

There is no concept of the carousel going anywhere. Dumbo would possibly move, but not the carousel. The castle courtyard idea already exists in theory, and the changes would simply solidify the theme that's already there. In fact, the courtyard idea was part of FL's plan back when WDW was being built; Dorothea Redmond worked on the concept.

Fantastic recap and post...:D With this outlook, it seems WDW is on the verge of something.

Makes perfect sense!

You made my day! :sohappy:

There is no land behind the Pinocchio Village Haus, just a nearly 3-story drop to the tunnel entrance.

I've studied the pics on google etc. and I'm absolutely convinced they can work FL around MK Drive and the utilidors and greatly expand FL. Heck there are parking lots all around Main Street/Jungle Cruise and most people have no idea.

The folks in California need to lay down the law and take more control of creative developments at WDW. I personally think they have, we just have not seen the effects.......yet.

Amen! But I don't buy Rasulo is the only problem. One person in a company the size of TWDC can't have that much power. No way, not buying it. Sorry.

Thanks for all the information. Nice post! :)

Jt, Toontown is literally right there in the land you are talking about. It would be incredibly difficult to expand back that way. it has nothing to do with the cast parking. We don't park right next to MK, there is another lot and we are bussed in, and there really is no other convenient entrance to the utilidoors. That is the only entrance to the outside world that can used as the main cast entrance.

Having a similar look to DL's Fantasyland would be incredible. The current midival tents are so drab and boring. The facades are so much cooler at DL, Peter Pan has a big clock tower, Snow White has the queen staring at you from above with a dungeon queue, Mr. Toad is themed to be like toad hall, its just so much better!

I know that. The entire area where 20K was is still available. All that has to happen is to reroute MK drive, which could be done easily. I could do a drawing but it is just so obvious what they could do if so inclined. Now EF may be planned to takeover toontown but that is not necessarily necessary. I'm just Bluesky-ing, as I've said I'm not an insider neither did I start these rumors. But saying FL can't be greatly expanded because of MK drive and the employee drop off just makes me crazy. Just a pet peeve of mine. Just look how DL handles space and how they engineer it especially what they are doing at DCA. Engineers can do anything!

From my understanding, it is with WRE and Fire Mountain now. :(

That's a real shame. I admit that I don't want to see another coaster at Magic Kingdom but this seemed like a concept that could have worked. It could have at least been in Beatly Kingdom along with the Fantasia boat ride but that is pretty much dead too.

Yep. Reroute MK Drive and have it head south next to the fireworks launch area and head straight into the utilidor entrance.
Seems like a no-brainer considering how much space it could conceivably open up.

And even when they are, my gut feeling is we'll get the bare minimum.

I'm just the opposite. My gut tells me that these decisions are being made in California now and the days of Eisner-esque bare minimums are about to reach a screeching halt. If not, I think it will really start to effect the gate at WDW.

All the evidence shows that Iger/Lasseter are fixing these problems one at a time. First was aquiring and keeping Pixar running at full speed. Second was fixing DCA which is happening. Third was fixing Disney Animation, which definitely seems to be happening. Fourth was getting "Disney Travel" up to speed including all it's divisions (incl. DVC's at WDW) which has and is happening, and 5th, I believe, will be fixing problems at WDW theme parks.

Not sure where all the doubt comes from. I know there is an epidemic of "I want it now because I want it now" out there.

Quality and instant gradification are mutually exclusive.

I'd rather wait and get quality any day. :)

Don't do Number 1* all over yourself; nothing has received the greenlight yet! :)

*I got around the pesky filter!
:ROFLOL:

Don't worry, I know.:D It's just nice to hear of other people who have heard of this too!
Is the Bald Mountain concept completely dropped because I haven't heard any talk of it for a while now.
That was all Blue Sky, anyway.
I wonder what the Matterhorn would look like in EPCOT. :lookaroun

Fixed.:lookaroun

Huh! That'd be cool. They would have to close it for the Fireworks, though...But don't they do that already?

Sometimes people (people outside this Forum of course) never fully appreciate how much of a genius and visionary Walt was.

It is truly amazing how much land they have available (already paid for as well) where poor old Universal has had to pay a ridiculous amount for land to expand their park over the past 15 years, carries a debt load that can choke a horse, and must make their engineers lose their mind. And Walt swept in and bought that swamp land for near next to nothing. Genius!

I mean, based on Lee's simple illustration, Fantasyland could become HUGE and by far and away the biggest land. Of course, there is no need to do so nor will it be done now, but it is great as such a Disney fan to see they have so much potential in the future just looking at MK right now. Let's just pray we see some of it sooner than later for all of our benefits. haha
