Ive never been to HS before and am super excited...Im just worried about a few things. First of all, I dont want to waste my time on the Backlot Tour if it really does suck..lol (which is what Ive read). So, does it? Or is it worth going on?
Any other HS tips I need to know about out there? Thanks!!

It sucks if you knew what it used to be. It used to be a sizable tour and take you through alot of sets and show you alot of props but it has been decreased in size drastically mainly due to lights motor action. If you have never been to DHS before I would go for it. There is still alot of eye candy before the tour, but its prob on a list to be put out to pasture soon.

Castrophy Canyon still runs pretty good so its up to you, I would not plan you route in the park around it bu if there is a short wait no harm.

I would definitely go. Catastrophe canyon is classic.

I agree with the previous poster, It is a shadow of what it was. The Cat Canyon set is good but thats it.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasnt the water tank segment a seperate attraction from the backlot tour?

You should go on it even though it's a real sleeper:snore: because it is the original concept ride for the park, a much smaller, shorter, more boring version of but still. Some of the "highlights" in my IMO are Walts personal jet, Catastrophe Canyon, oh and at the end they had a little museum devoted to Villains and their costumes and sets. So go for it, have fun, and if you have a bad time get in line again for RnR!

Oh BTW yes the Water Tank segment was a seperate attraction in the Back lot tours. I believe it was part of Inside the Magic (Special Effects and Production Tour) which was a walking portion of the tour.

Ride it once since you have never been to DHS

I have to disagree, the first thing you should run to at DHS is Toy Story Midway Mania.

Yes, if you have never ridden it, do it. But then you'll see what everyone is talking about. It really needs to be upgraded.

I think you got to do it at least once, but if you don't get a chance to do it don't worry about it. It was more interesting when they had the street sets where "Golden Girls" was filmed. That's where we first saw the Osborne lights alos.

If you had seen it before, and knew what it was before....you could probably skip it. But since its your first time, I think you will find it pretty neat. The pre-tram stuff is still fun. And catastrophe canyon has always been one of my favorites, definitely worth going just to see that. It will most likely be gone sometime in the near future.

Its a cheese fest but worth seeing if you havn't been before.

They heavily promote Pearl Harbour (the movie) before the main tram tour, which needs updating big time!

The tram tour relies on the CM being interested/interesting... get a good one and its ok.. otherwise..

Its 1000% better than the Paris version though! :hurl:

You have to do it at least once in your life, but it is a little long. Once you see the Pearl Harbor bit it gets a little boring. You get Catastrophe Canyon, but otherwise you are just driving through a few prop areas. If you need a rest from the day this may be a nice respite.

If you have never been on it, then yes I would recommend seeing it at least once. This way you won't be disappointed or have anything to compare it to in its original state. Its worth the ride just to be off your feet and get to see Catastrophe Canyon.

Enjoy your trip

The Backlot Tour is definitely a pale shadow of its former self. Anyone who remembers the tour during its first few years or so of operation will remember how chock full of stuff it was:

- the bee room, where a guest got to ride the bee from HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS and have his image placed in the movie

- the glass enclosed walking areas overlooking soundstages for Mickey Mouse Club and other shows; when we went in 1990, there was actually a show in progress down below

- residential street - actually used facades of homes from TV and movies; Herbie the Love Bug would greet us as we passed

SIDENOTE: There was a time when New York Street was *not* open to public walking traffic! You could only get a glimpse looking straight down the street through the arch from the backlot tour tram as it passed. During MGM's first year, attendance got so high that they were forced to open the street up and let people walk through! (My family was among the first to get to do this).

Personally, I like the Backlot Tour, maybe because I never saw it as it was. We always go at a pretty quiet time of year and I'm always gutted that we don't more time to have a look around the warehouse before you board the tram where they keep all the props. They just shoo you straight through the shortest part!

Last time we rose Cat Canyon, I just laughed and laughed!! It was fab!!!

I was one of the lucky kids to get to ride the bee. It was two guests actually, one on top of the bee and another on the wing. Great childhood memory!

It is worth doing once - barely...

On our last trip, we bee-lined it over to TSM. (I definitely recommend doing this as FPs go fast!) My daughter dragged me over to some TOy Story merchandise and then dragged me into the Backlot Tours. My wife and I had done it before, but my in-laws had not. As it turns out, they were still looking for volunteers, so I volunteered my father-in-law. A good time was had by all.

It's sad to hear them talk about things that were filmed there over a decade ago...
