it's a small world - Stylized characters

They don't look nearly as bad as I imagined. I'm not saying I'm happy that they're going to be there. I'm just saying that at least they look ok.

I think that they look really good. I doubt that most people would even recognize some of them as Disney characters. I do not see where they would take away from the attraction at all. In fact their addition will more than likely make kids enjoy a ride that for most non-Disney fans is a snooze fest.

It looks like they were done in the same stylistic way to match the other dolls (with maybe the exception of Mushu and Genie), so I guess I don't mind if they want to put those in the Hong Kong version, if they want to make that attraction more of a parade of characters (although that's not the spirit of the original attraction). But if they put these into the Anaheim version that will be an absolute travesty.

Wow, I think they look great and fit in so well with the ride! As soon as we all heard that characters were going to be added to It's a Small World everybody went nuts! Just goes to show we really should take the "wait and see" approach! I think they're incorporated them really well into the ride and adds just a little touch more of Disney.

I agree to a point. If it was just a few here and there would be all for it, but there seem to be a lot of them. I am by no means a purist, and I agree that kids will love playing "find the character" on the ride, (something my DD loves about the Ariel on Peter Pan), but I think its a little much. Do we need Nemo and friends? Why do we have to have Stich in hawaii? Why not just a girl who looks like Lilo?

I like 'em overall. Mufasa's face in the sun is a little macabre when you think about it, and I'm not sure why Bambi and Thumper are at the North Pole except for the fact that they wanted to illustrate the ice skating scene, but...it's picking nits, really. It looks like they fit without hogging the spotlight. If they want to put them at DL or even WDW, I'm cool with it. (And I'm sure my opinion will the be the deciding factor in any of those decisions.)

Exactly. No one complains about a hidden Mickey or a past ride tribute in an attraction. These are not much different in my eyes. I think it will be a nice plus to this attraction.

There has been a lot of controversy on the Stylized characters going to Hong Kong Disneyland and Anaheim's Disneyland's version of it's a small world.

You, my friend, are a master of understatement.

The way people are acting (see other forums, especially DL-oriented ones), this has almost reached "Save Disney" status.

The only thing I see that is slightly controversial is Stitch. Defies logic that Stitch is considered a classic Disney character. Absolutely don't understand the whole stitch hype. Otherwise I think they are great even in Disneyland!

IMO, they look good. But it seems that some of the characters dont belong, like theres to many. Nemo and Bambi and maybe even Simba and the gang shouldnt be there imo, atleast not at Dl the original. IMO, it should have just been human disney characters, ones that fit in well with the particular look of the dolls.

I think Stitch gets singled out for too much abuse around here sometimes (not just by you, but in general).

Surely he's as much of a classic character as Nemo and Dory, or Mulan, or the Aristocats, or Panchito and Jose?

It seems like there's a mix of "classic" and more current characters in there, along with with a few that really don't fit either description.

I saw this earlier today on Screamscape. In my opinion it is a lot to do about nothing. I really like the characters being added. It really is plusing of the existing attraction. (reminds me of what WDI did with Pirates)

I agree that it will give kids something more to look at and I feel that it will add a little spice to an attraction that has been around for along time. I hope they eventually bring the addition of the characters to WDW!

I'm usually open-minded about changes. I don't often have a problem with addition of characters to attractions, even. But I have to admit, I changed my tune on this one.

At first I thought it was harmless, and in reality it is. But after hearing the concerns of the Blair family, reading the replies of many professionals in animation (some current Disney/Pixar employees), and seeing the unusual way TDC has gone out of its way to cover itself over this situation (in what I feel has been a somewhat condescending manner), I say just leave Small World Anaheim alone already.

Apparently, this attraction represents a historic, iconic work that should not be tampered with, in a lot of people's minds. I can respect that in this case. I have no problem with leaving DL's version alone. Add the characters to the others worldwide.

I find it interesting that this forum has been BY FAR the least resistant to these changes. Must be because we're mostly WDW fans.

I found the idea almost as bad as some new attractions. But seen the video and the Characters looks really good.

Now I was looking around the link and they have the Song also in the opening ceremony. the way (at least the tempo) it was meant to be. Is there a place that i can find a similar version in English, it brings me so many good memories.

I think they did an awesome job styizing them to feel the same as the other characters to blend nicely. I agree though on the Bambi and Thumper at the North Pole - you have to stretch that connection there. :)

Here's the thing. Some look a lot better than others. I think some of the non-human characters are stretches. I think all of the fish (Nemo, Dory, Flounder) don't look very different than their actual characters. The same can be said about Donald, Jose and Panchito. As part of the fab-5, I don't think Donald should have been included. Overall, I don't mind the addition, but it should be noted that I'm not a big "it's a small world" fan.
