what do you drive?

Figured this is kinda my other love besides disney...so...what do you drive?
I have a 2003 mazda miata. It's my daily driver. I rebuilt it, as I bought it from a junk yard in parts, it was rolled over in an accident.
I also have a 1996 Ford ranger. Basically been in the family since new, it's my parts truck, and stuff hauler.
I also have a 1987 Harley sportster.
I also have four or five cars to rebuild/part out as well...
ones another miata that is soon to be rebuilt into a drag car.

What do you drive?

How'd I miss this thread all these years?!?

I'll weigh in with some of my favorite cars I've had.

I had a 1990 Miata that I bought in February, 1990 with a foot of snow on the ground at 128 Mazda just outside Boston. It was red with all three factory option packages added to it, except for the hard top. From 1990 to 1995 I drove that Miata from Boston to Disney World, from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon, from Seattle to Disneyland to Charleston, South Carolina, and a couple dozen states inbetween. I put nearly 200,000 miles on it and only did oil changes, replaced tires a few times and one set of brake pads. It worked perfectly, always.

Before the Miata I had a 1970 Triumph Spitfire in the late 1980's. I learned to curse Lucas Electrics nearly every day of my life when I owned that thing. It was gorgeous and fun to drive, but after the seventh or eighth time it stranded me with electrical faults in the days before cell phones, I gave it up. I was living in Portland, Oregon at the time, and I walked to a pay phone in the rain to call a tow truck one too many times. It was burgundy with black interior, aesthetically perfect and mechanically sound, but electrically British, and it looked exactly like this one except mine didn't have a luggage rack on the back.

@TP2000 : That '90 MX-5 sounded like a keeper!

It was! I should have kept it, but in '95 I was moving from the South back to Southern California and I traded it in on a big F-150 to help with the move cross country. It was a perfect car for me at the time, and it brought me many happy memories and took me to many wonderful places in this great country, coast-to-coast-to-coast.

I love your Fiat! That's a great color, and those new 124's are such a nice update on that classic marquee. I sat in one at the LA Auto Show last year, and sadly I no longer fit in them comfortably. Apparently I was much sleeker and leaner in 1990 when I had that Miata. How did that happen?!

Thank you! It shows dirt, tree sap, etc. like no other, but people do really seem to like the color for this kind of car. I would have preferred a British racing green-ish color, but alas FCA didn't see fit to grant that color.

Hah, time marches on...just like our belt lines? Interestingly enough, I have the seat moved forward one or two notches to comfortably depress the clutch fully and I'm 5'10".

Good job keeping modern day big blocks alive! I'm only sort of kidding, three/four cylinders have almost invaded everything at this point.

Yeah, I joke with my husband that I don't want to drive a go-cart. LOL When I step on the gas, I want to go. I don't drive crazy nor do I even speed, but I like the feel of being able to actually go when I step on the gas.

Still here and still driving the same old BMW's. Both are 2001, last year of the 'E38' chassis. One is a V12 (750iL) the other started life at a 740iL 'Sport' which was shadowline trim and M-Parallel wheels, then it was sent to DINAN to become a DINAN 7, and then 6 years ago I swapped in the drivetrain from a '03 BMW M5 (S62 engine + 6 speed manual) - that was at 83k on the car and within 3k on the drivetrain I found. Today both cars are around 115k miles.

Hoping to one day soon afford another WDW vacation. It's now been 6 years. Of course, I bought a house which is vacuuming up any funds I'd have otherwise.

Anywho, here's the engine swapped 7.

Well, since someone already bumped this thread…here’s my truck, 2003 Chevy Suburban…I finally had to put her out of her misery earlier this year because the chassis rusted out beyond repair. I’ll show the truck and the odometer so you’ll believe me. Replaced the engine & tranny about 5 years ago…all other major components including the U-joints, rear end and A/C are/ were original…

I've been looking for one of these off and on for a "run to the hardware store" ride. My dad had a 2006 z71 similar to that, sold it for $6500 a few years ago and it was flawless. Wish I'd bought it. I drove it to WDW several times, the AC was awesome in it, too.

If it wasn’t for the fact that the steel frame underneath was rotted and rusted to the point that my mechanic (who has worked on it since it was new) wouldn’t touch it anymore, I would’ve kept it….besides the fact that it could fit a total of 8 COMFORTABLY ( plus room for stuff in the back), as a music lover, the sound system was AM/FM/Cassette/CD!
Yeah, I know I’m showing my age, but the sound system was awesome

Love the Suburban. Grew up in them as my Dad loved them as well. He had a 1978 and 1986 and we drove everywhere for family vacations from Chicago (multiple trips to WDW, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc). I didn't fly until I was 20.

That was my second one…started out with a 1989 full size GMC Jimmy, then a 1999 Suburban ( which was totaled by a T-bone, went thru a traffic light accident, him not me) and then the ‘03…great trucks!

Oh, cars…where do I start a my age…!!!!! :hilarious:
I currently drive my wife’s old 2010 Toyota Camry, and she drives a 2017 Ford Escape that we payed cash for. We have no car payments. The darn Camry is, pretty much, bulletproof…!!!!! 🤣
My first car was a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass that I payed cash for. $1,200, with over 80,000 miles on it. I drove it beyond 200,000 before I got rid of it. It was a good car…Rocket 350 with a 2bbl. carb.
I changed an upper radiator hose on it in a 7-11 parking lot with a dime for the clamps, because my tools were in my 1978 Buick Regal trunk…!!!!! :hilarious:
I changed a fuel pump on that same Regal in my work parking lot, back when they were the diaphragm kind mounted on the engine block.
I used to do all our brakes on our cars, because they had a “lifetime” warranty from AutoZone. Take the old ones in, get a brand new set…BOOM…!!!!!
I changed out a starter on our 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo in our driveway without ever even having to use a jack because it was already so high up…!!!!! :hilarious:
I helped my youngest bro rebuild an engine in his Pontiac LeMans, friends put a 327 small block in a ‘75 Chevy Vega, and I watch a lot of Motor Trend Channel…
Good Lord, I just wish I had more money, and a place to work on cars…!!!!! 😅
