Not to get into the thick of this, but I've never truly understood the comparison of Splash on its last legs with Tiana on its debut. As we make these arguments, I think the better would have been Splash with a renovation/update at the scale of Tiana's budget vs. Tiana. I realize Disney isn't in the business of doing this, but it's a much fairer comparison. I find it harder to argue that (leaving aside the "other" conversations involved, as we all should) Splash with that much enhancement wouldn't be the clear winner. But, maybe that's me.

Back to your debate. :)

Exactly. The Disney way. Let an attraction rot so the last memories are bad and replace it with someone else and have people compare those 2. A fraction of the cost would have made Splash way better. Im sure there was a reason why Tiana never received her own princess themed ride and only a M&G but hey if you really needed to they should have simply stuff with that Princess themed FantasyLand setting.

I wanted to wait on having an opinion until I actually experienced the ride. Well…

Disney took a top 3 ride and must do ride that we would make sure we hit whenever we were in the park and turned it into a one and done ride.

All the things have been said, so no need to repeat again. Just disappointing, sad, and now one less thing to do in the park. From joy and non stop fun to a confusing mishmash of blah.

Surveys have to reflect this at some level right? They have to know they messed this one up. Based on their new focus on LL $$$, this ride should have moved the needle, but I’m guessing it doesn’t.

I don't care what side your on with Splash or Tiana, you have to admit that the issues and amount of downtime is major concern. For the money they spent, it should be much more reliable.

The bigger concern is if they can't get this right in terms of AAs working properly or not falling apart, what makes you think these new attractions will be any better?
Well said and extremely accurate!

Regarding surveys IMG_3277.png

Do they really mean anything

Can we just admit that the team which created this attraction failed? They’re clearly incompetent.
It makes me really angry to think that so much money and such a big opprotunity was given to people who clearly don't know what they're doing. I don't mean now that we've seen it in action and watched it break so in hindsight we know it didn't work out; simple storyboards should have made it clear this thing was going to suck and someone should have intervened.

There are millions of competent people who would have made something better and would have killed for that opprotunity, and Disney absolutely has/had the means to find them.

But instead these people got it and we all lose.

To show they are fair and balanced, while Jim Shull has his views on the worthiness of this undertaking and the present outcome, his frequent collaborator @lentesta has shared guest feedback which shows respondents are generally very happy with the ride as is.
This is especially disheartening, knowing that TP subscribers generally are a bit more knowledgable than the GP. They really like this??

Hey, it is what it is. I don’t begrudge them for liking it. There are plenty of popular things that aren’t my cup of tea but I don’t dwell on it.

FWIW, we have some close family friends that went to WDW over Christmas. They were absolutely enchanted by it.

This doesn’t surprise me, my survey results would look favorable and show I like Tiana also, what it wouldn’t show was I thought Splash was a 9 and I rank Tiana as a 7. Splash was vastly superior (to me) but I still enjoy Tiana.

Surveys only tell half the story.

I remember the Frozen ride having AA problems, etc. when it opened, too, but I've memory holed how long that went on for before things stabilized there. Is there some hope based on that track record that things will get figured out here for a more consistent experience?

IMO it's not that surprising at all. I would imagine a good chunk of TP subscribers are newer younger Disney fans. They probably have more of an attachment to Tiana than Song of the South.

It does show how how little your average guest cares about nostalgia, downtime or if the IP fits.
It shows that as much as a lot of us want the parks to keep their theme, all the average guest wants is IP they know and grew up with
Again, I have my views on this. But at least as of right now it seems to reinforce the Ip mandate.

Now, that said, is it moving the needle in terms of new bookings and such? No telling. There’s other ways they can see whether this was a success from a financial/operational standpoint. But as of now it seems to be a well-liked attraction.

People love log flumes, especially in hot places like Florida, they could likely theme it to anything and it would still be popular.

I like the Tiana theme, the bayou fits the ride perfectly, I just wish the story and execution was better.

Good point. There are differences between good, great, awesome, fun, cool, enjoyable, thrilling, mind-blowing, neat, impressive, and decent.
