MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I thought Disney had learned to appreciate the importance of water; they're totally reconfiguring Adventure World f/k/a Disney Studios Paris around a new lake. Now, they're replacing Magic Kingdom's main water feature with a cars land? I don't get it.

Calling it “a cars land” is a misrepresentation. This is no Radiator Springs. It looks like a wild, frontier-worthy environment.

The choice wasn't "put in Cars" vs "keep RoA/TSI". The choice is "Remove RoA/TSI to put in Cars" vs "Put in Cars and keep RoA/TSI". We can debate the finer points of Cars in MK, but they didn't have to put it in that particular location.

Why not retain the RoA and keep that ambiance and have all the benefit of the Cars addition? Who exactly is losing in that situation?

The easiest to see answer is if they build Cars elsewhere and keep RoA/TSI then they use valuable land for Cars and still have a large area that hardly anyone ever visits………..which would eventually be replaced.

Disney doesn’t want areas people don’t frequent taking up that much space.

Tell you what -- you want a say in what they can or can't do, buy a controlling amount of DIS stock and show up at the Annual Meeting.

Otherwise, get a grip and realize that you're just a revenue unit who will pay WHAT DISNEY ASKS for WHAT DISNEY OFFERS. If you don't like it, take your money somewhere else and clear the walkway space for their new customers.

If we're being real, the biggest waste of space in MK that neither fits its land theme nor is aesthetically pleasing is the speedway. That should've gone before ROA.

I'm hoping that with cars now coming they will get rid of the speedway. Probably my least favorite attraction in any of the parks.

I’m sorry if I triggered you with my opinion on the matter which is generally unbothered.

I’m tired of the hypocrisy in the Disney (adult) community when it comes to new additions. It’s like the opposite of the Tiana/Splash announcement- if you weren’t on board with Tiana then you were labeled as “weird” or unable to let go of the past. Then the ride opens and look what happened and how people switched up.

I guess now removing a body of water and a generally unused area for new attractions is suddenly the end of the Disney parks according to certain people on here? I’m annoyed with people embracing the negatives over postive aspects of what this land could bring- I don’t think that’s weird of me at all.

Never said I was triggered by your opinion. But you sure seem to be triggered over others' opinions.

I was one opposed to the Splash/Tiana switch. Mostly because I didn't like PatF as a movie. And because Splash was a modern masterpiece of an attraction and I didn't trust current Disney to make a replacement worthy of that. My opinion hasn't changed since TBA has opened. And I have the same opinion now about this news. RoA is picturesque and one of the few relaxing areas in all of MK. I don't trust current Disney to do the area justice. BBTM was supposed to use new area. This whole time Disney has never said anything about completely removing RoA, so this is a shock to a lot of people. I think it's natural for people to be upset when they feel blindsided.

Looks like the Railroad track will be right outside of the one laydown yard. I do have to wonder if they will eventually close the railroad and put in a construction access road to tie this yard to the construction area.

You could do a temp road and still maintain operations similar to a parade crossing. I could see delayed openings & longer waits at the stations, but full closure for an extended period doesn't seem immediately necessary.

One would think they'd want the capacity, especially if that BTMRR redo ever surfaces.

Ugh, I was at the Seas Pavilion yesterday and was thinking to myself, this is the stuff I love the old Disney. Walked to bakery in France Pavilion after too. This makes me really sad, people don’t come back to Disney just for the rides but the atmosphere.

This definitely expands capacity at the Magic Kingdom with the number of guests enjoying the cars and villain's attractions vs TSI and the Riverboat so that is a good thing. Also, I think this will help with parade viewing and the guests trying to get around those watching the parade from a logistics standpoint. That has always seemed to be an issue in Frontierland so I like the added capacity for that part of the park for pedestrians to be free from interrupting parade watchers.

There are a lot more places around Disney World to enjoy water views than when the park first opened like the Boardwalk area and the river around Animal Kingdom. If you want to go on a Riverboat, you can visit the city of New Orleans or Downtown Sanford in Orlando:

If I were Disney, I would move the boat over to Fort Wilderness and/or the Wilderness Lodge in some capacity and do some sunset and fireworks cruises on the boat in Bay Lake if they were able to configure so that it can be safely steered.

I said that somewhere, half-jokingly and half-serious.

The World Showcase Lagoon and the ROA are actually quite similar in how they worked as part of the overall environment and area design. So... are we going to eventually reach a point where they decide they need to fill in the lagoon because that's all underutilized space that can be filled with attractions etc.?

I can remember rumors going back decades about better utilizing this space, but I find it hard to believe the intention was always to go scorch-earth. I remember reading about putting an e-ticket on the island, utilizing the back half of RoA, parking the riverboat, building a bridge, etc, but never have I seen any rumor inducating that the entire area would be wiped from the park. This seems like a more recent idea and seems like it even caught insiders by surprise. Correct me if I’m wrong?

Here’s another shot I got last week, this Gen Zer will miss the river! Remember all, it’s not just TSI. But the magIc of walking along the river at night. I really hope this doesn’t go through, but unfortunately seems too late. Between this, polyday inn, Epcot, and Tiana. What’s going on with Disney? I haven’t seen any company in recent history get so much negative reaction to their products.
