Okay, but they have to do it right- I want high-speed instantaneous 90 degree turns that will snap my poor "User" neck.I've wanted to ride a Light Cycle since 1982.

I’m including rides that are essentially completed and are only waiting on Disney’s preferred financial quarter to open. And since the original point is about Disney’s “new” rides, their inclusion is valid. You’re including rides we don’t have yet, MFSR has very impressive sets and only uses a screen once necessary (we can’t actually fly into space), and I really like the set integration with projection on MMRR. FoP is, indeed, screen-based after an incredible queue and the ride has received near-universal acclaim. They decided this was the best way to provide the experience of riding a banshee. It certainly is more effective than an inverted roller coaster would be.
Rat absolutely over-uses screens. No fight there. But otherwise, this is about execution. When you watch Minion Mayhem and then watch Transformers and then watch F&F, it does indeed get monotonous. Three rides in a row where with the screens off, you’d largely have no idea where you are.
Meanwhile, no one complains about Spidey. In my mind, screens should only be used when true sets are impossible.
My point was, claiming Disney only plans to build simulators and screen-based rides is outrageous. They build rides with physical sets all the time.
Also, I enjoy SDD. I won’t wait 2 hours for it. But it’s a really fun ride.
I know. Gasp.
I wonder if we might be entering an era where we need terms that have a bit more nuance than "screenbased". Even though it makes extensive use of projection mapping and occassional use of video screens, that term doesn't quite seem appropriate for something like Runaway Railway. My personal feelings about MMRR happen to be that the attraction is far from a masterpiece, and the ways it uses projections and video are somewhat a factor in that assessment, but I wouldn't classify it as "screenbased".I’m including rides that are essentially completed and are only waiting on Disney’s preferred financial quarter to open. The point was about the number of screen-based rides, not subjective judgements of their quality. I think MMRR is pretty close to a masterpiece - it’s still screenbased. So yeah, the point stands - the overwhelming majority of the rides Disney has built recently and is building are screen-based.
Can't wait for the next movie where our bad boy tells Mickey he is family as they beat Zephirot and Commander Shepard into submission.I KNEW they wanted the to get their hands on Fast and the Furious: Supercharged... Fingers off, Disney!
In the defence of the original poster... Navi River is like 90% screens, only that animatronic (with a ton of PR about how its the most amazing animatronic ever..)

And I'd say that RISE is an excellent mix of 50% 50%. Animatronics, physical sets and screens.
Ehhhhh, Na’vi could benefit with having more animatronics but that attraction is overflowing with physical sets. The screens that are utilized are for the animals and depth. A strong 90% not screens.
I mean, I think it's fair to say that at least several of the screens came in place of animatronics - the Viperwolves and Hexapedes come immediately to mind - but moments like the waterfall, centipede log, and the Na'vi riding Direhorses in the background are well-integrated.Yeah, this.
Na'vi is one of the best examples of how to effectively use screens on a dark ride, IMO. They add depth and movement to the background but they don't take the place of actual detailed physical sets.
I think the Viperwolf and Hexapede screens are okay where they are ... They just need reiterative accompanying animatronics. Like, after I see the Viperwolves move through the background, I want to encounter one up close as a fully-realized animatronic later, as if it's decided it's safe to venture nearer the boats. They really just need three or so decently spaced encounters with fauna that you really want to focus on rather than just seeing them whip by in the background. Then it won't be so jarring at the end when you suddenly encounter the insanely complex shaman. It's that core incongruity that makes it feel incomplete.I mean, I think it's fair to say that at least several of the screens came in place of animatronics - the Viperwolves and Hexapedes come immediately to mind - but moments like the waterfall, centipede log, and the Na'vi riding Direhorses in the background are well-integrated.
The overhead moment with the frog-type creatures on the leaves seems to be a favorite moment for many as well. If there were a few more animatronics representing creatures of Pandora, and maybe a few more Na'vi, I doubt we'd hear so many complaints about the ride.

I honestly think so. It's the only ride I've ever ridden at Disney where I've gotten off and just felt odd about the budget distribution. Like, yes, some rides are clearly done more cheaply than others, but they feel much more even-handed in the application of what they had. Frozen Ever After, for instance, has really spartan environments, but all of the animatronics feel like they're of the same quality, and there's something eyecatching at the beginning (Olaf skating), middle (Elsa pushing the boat back), and end (Marshmallow belching out frost on you). Rock 'n' Rollercoaster has dopey cutouts, but it's cutouts throughout; I'm not suddenly assaulted by something high-budget at the end.I've actually wondered if people would like the ride more if that AA didn't exist specifically for this reason.
No, we did not.
I've wanted to ride a Light Cycle since 1982.

Well . . . it's early yet.Quote of the day.
I don’t know…I love MMRR except for the tornado…What? I consider it to be the prime example of bad attraction design in this current era of Disney. I would even argue that it's lazy. Projecting stuff onto flat walls, using trackless ride vehicles for a linear ride path and having absolute atrocious pacing is coming close to a masterpiece? This isn't a personal attack, but I'm just flabbergasted because I cannot fathom where you're coming from.
I love Navi but it suffers from the same problem as Seven Dwarves… it’s too short. They are both very well done but they feel shortened, like the accountants cut a big chunk out of them and told the imagineers to make it work.Navi River Journey is the modern El Rio De Tempo for me. Its major flaws for me are capacity length and perhaps music pacing.
