You can throw the Te Fiti crap at me all you want, but I sincerely doubt any Moana attractions added to Animal Kingdom will educate park-goers about nature. Chances are it'll just be Moana and Maui reprising the songs from the movie and that stupid chicken doing wacky things.

Do you think GotG’s nod to “edutainment” works?

Well, that's my point. People were suggesting maybe the Guardians of the Galaxy ride would use the characters to educate park goers about energy. Look at how THAT turned out.
edutainment seems like a lost cause, not for want i suppose, but what can you do when park goers (read average joe) doesn't want or care about that? how many pitches can an imagineer get turned down before they get the point and stop trying to pitch edutainment attractions?

Aye. And the sad thing is that “Universe of Energy Solar Coaster” was a concept practically gift-wrapped by the intricacies of the English language.

Ride the Sunshine

And they could even pay homage to DL’s Adventures Thru Inner Space where your coaster train is shrunk to the size of an atom, and you make the journey from the Big Bang (powered launch) to the future of sustainable energy (exit would be at a hands-on activity center, essentially a new and improved version of the old Energy Exchange).

Alas…that wouldn’t be as marketable as Baby “Buy My Pistachios” Groot.

There were never even the slightly reason to think such a think would ever happen. That was entirely wishcasting from fans. From the start Disney had indicated there were no plans for the pavilion to relate to “energy” any more.

They're not going to do that. The movie is still primarily about a human character and a humanoid character, and that's what the attraction will most likely focus on.

The Simpsons Movie has a "protect the environment" message, but that doesn't mean they should build a Springfield land in Animal Kingdom.
Avatar was a war movie yet they integrated the relevant portions of that flawlessly. Granted Joe Rohde was there at the time, but still.

Moana is both parts a journey of self discovery and her quest to restore the heart of te fiti which is at its core a quest to restore and preserve nature.

Moana will be a wonderful fit for AK.

It will forever be a puzzling addition to Epcot.
Proper character integration is a problem for EPCOT. That being said, they defined a section of that park as being nature oriented. I really don't have an issue with the Moana addition in EPCOT.

Show your work. What has he greenlit since being CEO? Avengers E-ticket in DCA - a different, likely more expensive version of that was announced before he was named CEO.

As Chairman of the Parks and Resorts segment, Disney spent $24 billion on parks, resorts, and cruise lines. More than they spent acquiring Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm combined.

I doubt it. Flight of Passage is still incredibly popular, so I don't think they'll see any reason to spend millions of dollars on an update. It's not like they need to prop up it up because it no longer draws a crowd.
Only if they see it as a means to add capacity to an existing ride as opposed to building a new one. The infrastructure is already there, so a 5th theater + new film could be treated as a new offering.

I should have clarified stateside parks, non-DVC additions.

The article is behind a paywall, but what's the window of time that they're spending $24 billion? What parks are included? How many cruise ships and Caribbean Islands are included in that budget?

The most decisive thing that Chapek has done for the theme parks in Disney's portfolio is cut $900 million of spending from previously announced projects.

Edit: Article from 2018, are you kidding me?

Despite my arguing the contrary, if Chris Beatty is the lead I don't have much confidence in the story execution. If Joe Rohde was still around I'd assume things would be done correctly.

Thing is, I don't necessarily think of Moana as a champion for the environment... I loved the movie, I loved her journey of self discovery and finding her passion for exploration and travel...
Pocahontas was all about listening to the earth and respecting nature... very clearly...not an aside note, but right out front.
Why does she not continue to be the face of ecology at the parks? I know Moana is a newer IP...

I saw the first Ice Age in theaters (they re-released it for the 20th anniversary) and, honestly, I still think that franchise would be a much better choice for a Dino-Rama replacement than Moana.

Not only would it continue the "prehistoric animals" theme, but... come on, you can't tell me that scene where they're sliding around in the ice tunnels wouldn't make a great ride.
