Year Of A Million Dreams Has Been Cancelled!!!

I never go on any Disney vacation with the expectation of anything extra. I go with the expectation of enjoying everything that they have to offer on a daily basis. For this trip, I don't expect to actually get anything extra, but the selling point of the promo is that there is the "possibility" of more, which is really cool and works for me. We have as yet to go to WDW without having some sort of extra pixie dust be showered upon us. They set us up to DREAM of the POSSIBILITIES, so I have.

Sorry that you feel that you were slighted, but a usual day at WDW is way better than even the best day that I have anywhere else. I love the place. Maggie

Nah, I really wasn't bothered with it, as we had lots of magic throughout the trip. I think it mainly disappointed my wife to see great chunks of people around us picked, but never be actually selected, she wanted those ears! :ROFLOL:

I'll be back as soon as possible, whether the celebration continues or not, that's for certain! :sohappy:

I think it's quite easy for us Disney enthusiasts to forget the effect that something like YOAMD has on the non-Disney going public.

Our family goes about 2 - 3 times a year and couldn't care less about a promotion. However, we know several families who happened to go during YOAMD for their "Once in a lifetime" Disney trip and were thrilled with the silly promotions they won during their trip.

In one specific instance, we know a family of six who have decided to go back in a couple of years and they had no intention of going back ever.

Is it silly to us? Yeah, probably (do we need more ears or a random fast pass?). But is it silly to John and Jane Doe and their kids who weren't ever planning to come back? I don't think so.

You are correct, but you also have to understand the reverse of what you are saying is true as well. What about the family that comes, hears all about this magical promotion, and then wins nothing? More families loose than win, so unfortunately some people (mostly those aided by information on the Internet before their trip) spend their trip looking for these things that most people don't get.

That is the point I was making earlier, that this is simply a tight-rope of a situation for Disney. They have a promotion that is tough to promote because if you build up guests too much they are looking for something the vast majority of them will never get (I've spent 30+ days in the parks since the promotion began and I've yet to even get a free coke), but if you don't promote it what's the point of the give-a-way in the first place.

You will notice WDW has been VERY careful in it's promotion of this, and in fact held off on specifically mentioning the contests and prizes in mass advertising for quite awhile after it began. They still downplay them, because, again, the vast majority of guests will not get a "dream" prize, or any prize at all.

This thread should be closed, as it is speading untruths about the park.
Where Dreams Come True and Year of a Million Dreams are NOT the same thing!

Calm down, LOL.

The truth is here for those that care enough to read it (and it's only a few pages in).

I have no pity for those that don't bother. To me the #1 worst message board behavior is jumping into a thread and saying, "I didn't have time to read all this or inform myself to the discussion, but here's my 2 cents..."

I agree completely, and that's what I'm worried about... people NOT reading the thread and taking the title and first few posts as the gospel.

YES YES YES!!! :sohappy: Please read this post those "haters" of the YOMD. This is exactly what I've been trying to say. You guys are looking at it from the viewpoint of the rose-colored Disney freak glasses (sorry, we all are if we post here) and not from the eyes of the general public which makes up a HUGE percentage of the guests. The Doe family is going to have some mighty great memories and souvenirs should they win. Check out the faces of guests when they receive a prize and tell me the promotion is a failure.

AEfx while I understand what you are saying, you are also inadvertently reaffirming Scar's point. The lack of advertising as you say makes it great for the families who have no idea it's going on (which is most families) and makes it "cautious" to the families who do know it's going on and will inevitably see other guests in the park but may not win prizes themselves.
I've spent just as much time, if not more, in the parks as you since this began in October and I have yet to see the Dream Squad other than when they are super greeting, but that doesn't damper me personally. I honestly forget they are even around when I'm in the park and I'm not at every attraction praying they will show up. It's just one of those things that if it happens it happens.

That just makes for more fun. They all run around like headless chickens whining about something that isn't true because they didn't finish reading. Then we can laugh when they get cyber beatings by the smarty pantses. :D

I heard that Disney is going to stop the whole thing right after they give away the 999,999th dream....and then laugh at the next guy in line and say SUCKA!!!!!!!!
