Alright, I'm too lazy to read through the whole thread. Is YOAMD leaving for sure or not?

If so, thank god. YOAMD has to be the worst excuse for a Disney promotion ever. And please, get that purple puke off of the monorails please. It makes me actually miss Stitch, which is saying ALOT.
It's staying. Right now, Disneyland's YOAMD/Where Dreams Come True banners, flags, decor, etc are being removed. It looks as though the Happiest Place on Earth is returning to DL. I haven't heard word on whether WDW is getting their stuff removed or not.

Not.

It may not be extended as was apparently planned, but Al Lutz had announced it was being canceled and then changed the announcement fairly quickly to be that the "Where Dreams Come True" banners were being removed...

Thus we have hundreds of posts arguing a bit of misinformation...

Well, that's good anyways. Those banners and decor has to be some of the ugliest and tasteless crap I've ever seen.

This is exactly what miceage.com states:

7/7: Lucky us! Breaking news: The "Where Dreams Come True" decor (flags, banners) will begin to be removed from Disneyland beginning this week. Consider it a early Anniversary present from Mr. Lasseter. More to come later after 7/11. - Al Lutz

It looks like they're cutting back on decorations for YOMD for DLR only. From what I've read on other boards they are putting up NEW banners to make DLR stand out a bit more than the other Disney parks. They're still having the YOMD, just redoing their decorations.

Lutz originally reported that YoMD was ending completely, then found out he had misunderstood and changed his post rather quickly.

I have not bought into anyone's propoganda. Yutz seems to know what he is talking about when it comes to Disney labor negotiations, nothing more from anything I have seen.

He knows a lot more than that. He was right about Midway Mania coming and had all the inside info on what was going to be inside long before anyone else, he scooped the Pirate Island thing which was a major scoop long before anyone. That alone should give him credibility. There's also been many many more things he's been right on than wrong. So while I get annoyed at his bashing of WDW, he does know what he's talking about on the rumor front.

I can't comment on the veracity of his Disneyland rumors. But, like Hilly-boy, you throw enough pooh at a wall, and eventually some will stick.

I don't keep up with Disneyland boards (the MousePlanet weekly update is enough for me since I never get to Disneyland), so I can't say what he has or has not scooped on that front, but what I can say is that every word I have ever read him say about Walt Disney World, my area of interest, has been a) needlessly negative, b) ill-informed, or c) downright inaccurate, or a combination of such.

I still stand by my original statement, though, that he is just an internet blogger, and for people to get so up and arms without another confirmation was surprising to me.

:hurl: :hurl: it started in oct. 06 so it is due to end in oct.07 i think the day was like the 14th.

Uh? What?
The WDW YOMD is (and always has been) scheduled to end December 31st, 2007. Here it is straight from the official rules:

The Disney Dreams Giveaway (the "Giveaway") provides participants with the chance to win prizes starting on October 1, 2006 and ending on December 31, 2007 (the "Giveaway Period").

If so, thank god. YOAMD has to be the worst excuse for a Disney promotion ever.

1.1 million prizes (a minimum of 1,500+ a day) are given to guests both in the parks and entering via alternate means of entry. It's been wildly successful and the Dream Squad role is looking quite clearly like it's going to be extended beyond the Disney Dreams Giveaway promotion period.
So I'm not exactly sure how it's "the worst excuse for a Disney promotion." While I agree it may not be something people are packing their bags to rush to Disney and win for, I think it's an incredibly ingenious retention promotion. Disney doesn't need droves of new guests - they are already closing to capacity crowds as it is. What they need right now is retention and the YOMD is a perfect way to conduct that.

On a related note: The theming and colors started out great. The Fab 5's costumes are terrific, the blue color scheme is beautiful, and the merchandise just plain looks good with the logos and colors. Then the monorail "color splash" thing came. Then the weird mulitcolored kite-type banners. They really should have just stuck to their roots and kept with the royal blue/white scheme. I'm not really sure how it got that out of hand. Nonetheless, whether you like the YOMD or not we can all be excited about a new promotion forthcoming in '08.

Oh goody! :sohappy:

I always enjoy unprovoked rants that insult specific members and slam the general membership in one fell swoop!

To quote Barbie from a certain Pixar movie...

Buh-Bye!

Wouldn't be the first time Ghostbuster/Lewis Caroll/Enigma has been booted for doing pretty much the same thing...
