Year Of A Million Dreams Has Been Cancelled!!!

You call this a rant, but I think it's a great thing. If you don't do your homework, you should be prepared to have a lesser experience than those who have (this goes with anything in life).

People here make the argument that FastPass doesn't help one way or the other. This assumes that everyone uses it, not everyone does. Therefore, it's good for me, someone who utilizes it to full advantage.

Others don't know how to avoid long lines on certain attractions; I spend a few hours researching this (at work, nonetheless, so I'm being paid) and more than make up for my time in the parks.

I make ADRs and get to eat where I want, when I want. Others don't, and are stuck with what's left. Again, extra legwork pays off.

Ignorant people can be a pain, but it seems they put themselves at a disadvantage and give hard workers (yep, hardcore Disney fans are now equated to hard workers) the advantage. Just like in every aspect of life.

I agree wholeheartedly. If you aren't willing to do a little research, then you're not going to have a great vacation.

Many people complain about this aspect of a Disney vacation. But really, it's no different than any other vacation. If I am going to Mexico or Spain or wherever for a week, I can either do the bare minimum - book the air and hotel - and then waste valuable vacation time figuring everything out when I get there, OR I can buy a $15 guidebook and read up on what exists that I'd like to see, maybe things I didn't even know about, etc. A simple guidebook takes a few hours to read and that time investment is more than returned not only by not wasting time on vacation figuring it all out, but also in the time savings by knowing how to do it efficiently. Wherever your vacation destination, a few hours of research pays off.

FastPass works specifically because not everyone uses it. Disneyland had exactly this problem. Because much more of DL's attendance is made up of locals, too many people were using FastPass. It caused many problems because instead of the queues being full, the walkways and shops were jammed and no one could move around. It was a space management issue for them because of the smaller walkways at DL. They needed to get more people to wait in line, so they got rid of FastPass on many rides.

I am one who doesn't think that people should have to research and research and research to have a great time. Yes, I think people should have to do a little research just to know the basics of where they are going and to make sure that they will have a great time. But I don't think that people should have to go to the extent that some people do around here for a Disney vacation. I honestly don't think ADRs should be allowed 180 days in advance. That's way too early for most people and usually, if you don't call 180 days in advance, you miss out on all the good restaurants. I think 90 days is prefectly fine. That's 3 months ahead of time. Heck, I even think 120 days is good. That's 4 months. But 6 months ahead of time to me, is a bit excessive.
I have called with as little as 2 months to go and have gotten almost any restaurant I wanted. Only at the peak times (holidays, etc.) is it a bigger problem.
And I don't think having a 3-month window instead of a 6-month window would solve the problem. Anyone who plans more than 3 months in advance is just going to call exactly at the 3-month mark so all of those reservations will be gone that day. The way it is now, people have the flexibility to call 6 months, 5 months, or 4 months in advance, to make reservations. Theoretically, reservation availability at the 89-day mark should be the same whether the window is 6 months or 3 months. The people who don't or can't plan 90 days out won't be making reservations 90 days out no matter what the window is.

And if you don't do your research, (not just basic research, but hard research) you might not even know that sit down restaurants 1. exist and 2. that you have to have reservations for them. Most places...especially where I live, you just walk up and get a table. So why would it be different at Disney World?

Because they're not restaurants in your hometown. That's the point. It's just like if you are trying to get a reservation at a fancy restaurant in a big city. Whether I am vacationing in WDW, NYC, LA, or any other big city, if I want to eat in the popluar restaurants on my vacation, I should expect to need reservations. Maybe you think a couple hours reading a guidebook is "hard research" but I'd consider it "basic research". An hour spent reading the dining section in any guidebook will tell you all the restaurants that exist and that you need reservations.

Sorry about the continual thread hijack. What's the speculation on Rasulo's replacement? Al Weiss?

Just to sort of update this constantly changing subject:
Per emails I got this morning, YoaMD isn't going anywhere. It will be her through the end of next year, but with some different marketing and decorations.
The Global Structure mess still seems to be on the outs. Rasulo's fate is undetermined, though I'm now hearing that reports of his demise may have been premature...at least a little.

LOL, this is why I never worried about getting anything from YOAMD.

Yes, I know it's not always that way, but a mid-twenties couple isn't as marketable as a omg4realfamily.

My kids are both blond and blue eyed, and my husband is handsome. If I can manage to lose 15 pounds by Sunday, do you think we will win a night in the castle??:hammer:

A friend of mine works for communications in MK and she said that it is technically cancelled. There are still gonna makes dreams happen but its gonna have a different marketing. She isn't sure of the reason but that is what she was told

There is a big ad in todays new york daily news advertising yomd,so i doubt it is cancelled

Okay, I don't think all of you who have offered "counter evidence" that YOAMD advertising, etc, can still be seen may not understand the process for 'cancelling' this (not even canceling it, per se, but not continuing it). If it does happen, it's not going to be some instantaneous thing. That would be a little fishy. Disney will just innocuously drop the campaign with little hoopla.

Wow, this is better than Seinfeld... A thread about nothing!

The posting on MouseAge.com that prompted this thread was withdrawn within 24 hours because it was inaccurate, and still this thread lives on and on...

and on.

Lee, you beat me to it. However, I'm still being told that YoaMD is technically cancelled, with the Dream Squad remaining for a new campaign based on this one. You know how it is with Disney; something happens and multiple stories fly around--and each story is "correct" in one aspect or another.

Anyway, Rasulo is definitely on his way out.

This thread needs to die a quick death and recede to the WDW Magic Black Hole. :p

Dude calm down he clearly said he will post an explanation on 7/11 can't you wait a couple of days?

So, its 7/11/07, the end of the day, and there is no explanation... So what does that make Al Lutz?

A liar.
a cheat..
a conman...

I gave you your time Ghostbuster... precious time to convince me that Al Lutz was even close to not being a scumbag... That time has passed. For I, that time passed rather gleefully, since I knew that Al was blowing smoke. For you, and your misguided trust in that internet demagogue, I bet that time passed with a lot less smiles.
