Year Of A Million Dreams Has Been Cancelled!!!

Which addresses an interesting point...

Why is Al Lutz getting a pass on this one?

His already-questionable credibility should now be null and void for reporting that the Year of a Million Dreams was cancelled... Instead of issuing a retraction, or even saying "oops, I jumped the gun a bit" he is doing his best to hide the offending (and WRONG) remark with a new statement.

Dude calm down he clearly said he will post an explanation on 7/11 can't you wait a couple of days? The fact that Rasolu's legacy is falling apart is even bigger news than the YOAMD getting cancelled anyway. Since it gets so confusing with all of these marketing schemes Al Lutz probably just got confused an honest mistake.

I don't know where you come off saying he is not credible. He was the first person to report tom sawyer's island was getting replaced with pirates and everyone thought he was full of bs. Hell, WDI didn't even know it was happening because I remember someone quoting an imagineer saying "you think disney was going to put a tropical island in the middle of the old west with a steampeddler sailing around it?" and even Lee (no offense) said that it wasn't going to happen.

Lutz was also the first to leak out Midway Mania was the new toy story ride coming to DCA and MGM Studios.

The few times he has been wrong was due to last minute changes by disney management (which is naturally out everyones control) but he has a better batting average than most.

Hmmmm... A week or so ago there was nothing "piratey" on Tom Sawyer Island... DS12 scoured the whole area. So, how was he right?

Al Lutz was in such a hurry to scoop every other Disney site he didn't check his facts. When he did, he changed the teaser on his site without any attempt to admit he got it wrong. I see nothing to encourage any faith in what he reports. But when the Disney Parks promo is phased out, you'll no doubt point to that as Al being right anmd announcing it before anyone else.

Al Lutz has been by far the most correct voice out there. I've only read him over the past year so I don't know where he stands before then, but he's been right on everything he's posted so far. The fact that he leaked Midway Mania info and the TSI makeover before even most people in the organization knew about it should prove he knows something.

He hates WDW so I take what he says about us with a grain of salt, but when he's talking about DL he's right much more than he's wrong.

There's a CM on Micechat who has reported seeing them take down Where Dreams Come True banners and flags at the Disneyland parking garage early Sunday morning. So the first reports of the Where Dreams Come True logo removal has come in, and it looks like this is actually happening.

Or, at least it's happening this morning in Disneyland as Al Lutz mentioned. Any word on if this removal process is happening out in Florida?

You do know Al Lutz scooped everyone on that story last year, right? Even the Disneyland spokesman hadn't heard of the Pirate Island plan and told the Los Angeles Times and Orange Country Register as much during that first 36 hours after the story broke.

Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island opened Memorial Day weekend at Disneyland. About 9 months after Al Lutz broke the news that such a thing was going to happen.

Yay!! :sohappy:

What a great couple of days of news this has been. First the wand coming down, now the tacky WDCT decor is going away.

OK, now I understand... There is a Tom Sawyer Island in WDW that is still in non-pirate mode. I had no idea about TSI in DL or that it had changed, having not gone when we were in DL a few years back, it didn't register.

You had me worried there for a second

For those who care, TSI in WDW is the way it should be. :ROFLOL:

Having never actually been to TSI at WDW (I know I can't believe it either), I must say, I highly doubt it is as good as Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland. They did a fantastic job there.

Late comer here, and I actually read the whole thread.

#1) Since when is Al Yutz any type of reliable source? He's right above Hilly-boy in the credibility department. I can't believe so many people took his word as gospel. Remember, this is the same site that hosts the joke known as Yee "let's invent/steal an impressive sounding term to legitimize my paint chip rants" as well, LOL.

#2) It's wonderful if "Disney Parks" really does go away. While many people may not care about what is printed on their bag, reciept, drink cup, napkins, etc. (and, actually, the new bags are quite attractive except for the Disney Parks logo itself), but it simply was a poor idea because it homogonized the parks. It's bad enough they've done it in so many other ways (Pirates and Tinkerbell/Princess crap in every store in every park), but "branding" the parks as one was simply a marketing idea gone amuck. As others have pointed out, in the quantities of these items Disney orders it could not have been that considerable of a monetary savings.

#3) It would be absolutely no surprise if they did not continue this promotion after it's planned end date. It was thrown together quickly, and not well thought out. They have had to walk a tightrope where on one side they wanted people to know about the promotion, but on the other they couldn't push it nearly as much as other promotions because the fact remains that the vast majority of guests will experience nothing of the "Year of a Million Dreams" but seeing the signage in the parks.

At least with previous promotions, like when everyone who entered the park got a random ticket with the chance at a prize (they did this for the 15th - I actually found my ticket the other day, I won a free coke), there was some tangible participation. Now, most people don't even know about it or how it works, and those that do are more likely than not to go an entire vacation without being a part of it (save seeing the signage or seeing scattered families with dream fastpasses around their necks). It's become a game for the Internet-savvy folk at most.

It was just a bad implementation of an idea that wasn't so great in the first place. It adds absolutely nothing to the vacations of the majority of guests, and while I'm sure those guests who do get the rewards are happy, remember for every one person that does, dozens, hundreds, maybe more don't. Add to that the confusion over just how it all works (people on other message boards STILL post about, "What if my family wears green hats - what if they don't give it to people who wear green hats! My family is going to be left out!" even when we all know it does not work that way), and you see why this was just a poor idea to begin with.

Wow you really buy into enderikari's propoganda! Al Lutz has proven to be a credible source time and again as I have stated above. Just because people here badmouth him doesn't make him an invalid source for info. He has been right way more times than wrong.

You want to talk about hillybilly credibility look no further then this forums very own "corrus" a self professed insider who says abunch of bs and has all you yokels fooled. He is the first to call other people names and then he makes bold claims that the Wand is not coming down and that Disney was not going to purchase pixar. His data is usually woefully inaccurate as well yet im sure your the first one to say "Corrus can you confirm" as if he is a god whos word is final. There are several other clowns on this website who think they are insiders (there are a few real insiders on this site too however)

Attn: WDWMagic forum members - Micechat fans already drank the Kool-Aid, we need to be the responsible ones and hold him to the tripe he reports.

:sohappy: Well said. Besides his predictions which only come true half of the time, his NEW enemy is WDW. He used to rip into Pressler & Harris with glee, but since Quiment came and turned things around, he has nothing really to whine about. So the tone for the past year or so is how Lasetter only cares about DL, how generic WDW is and various other snide remarks.

Typical internet journalism, always complaining about something to get people to read and respond to.

The main prediction he screamd up and down about for months back in 2001/2002 was how DL Splash Mountain was getting torn down to accomodate 2 across seating, ala WDW and how the mountain track width had to be widened. The guy literally had a hard one for that story forever. but when people told it wasn't happening and it never did, I never remember him EVER saying anything about it.

He appears to have good sources but you have to take what he says with a grain of salt.

Grab and donut and some coffee, thanks for hitting the payboxes below.

Pardon me, but please keep your ridiculous assumptions to yourself. And I'm not sure where your personal rant about Corrus came from - I have never made a comment about my feelings about him or his credibility either way.

I have not bought into anyone's propoganda. Yutz seems to know what he is talking about when it comes to Disney labor negotiations, nothing more from anything I have seen.

My experience with Yutz has been like anyone else; reading his articles and site over the past many years. Your opinion of him is different than mine. But my opinions have been made with personal experience, not because of what some other poster said.

Haven't you been banned again, yet?

So, the YoaMD is going to end as scheduled. That's fine. It's an interesting promotion, though I doubt it has been very lucrative for WDW. On the other hand, it has probably pulled in more guests than an Epcot's 25th Celebration would. I suspect the average guest is more intrigued by giveaways than by the anniversary of one of the secondary parks.

Oh goody! :sohappy:

I always enjoy unprovoked rants that insult specific members and slam the general membership in one fell swoop!

To quote Barbie from a certain Pixar movie...

a little info on yoamd's

:hurl: :hurl: it started in oct. 06 so it is due to end in oct.07 i think the day was like the 14th. as for stuff coming down they are going to start taking decor down the has been weathered insted of putting more money into the same thing. as of give-a-ways wdw had already given over a million dreams out in the first 5 months, they included being a guest skipper and "stearing the boat" to opening the doors to hm. to as high as a cruise. within the million dreams was also included was what the cast memebers recived to, like freee cookies. woohoo. but any how they have no plans on stopen the give-a-ways till after oct. that is as much as cm's know. so dont go given up ure vacations so quickly or anything like that. also yoamd's was going to be the only other multi park event that was scheduled. as for epcot who the heck knows any more. it is one month then next month we are being told there doing nothing then the next month they are. to be honst if u are an epcot freak e mail them write letters expressing you want to see something for the 25th and u never know what will happen.:sohappy:

Alright, I'm too lazy to read through the whole thread. Is YOAMD leaving for sure or not?

If so, thank god. YOAMD has to be the worst excuse for a Disney promotion ever. And please, get that purple puke off of the monorails please. It makes me actually miss Stitch, which is saying ALOT.
