Since Future World is going bye-bye, maybe it's time to say good-bye to Tommorowland.
Tomorrowland still works for me, even if the name isn’t quite right. I associate it less with the future than I do with space, technology (not necessarily of the cutting-edge kind), and sci-fi. Ralph seems a good fit to me, belonging as he does to the second category.

There's an inherent problem with theming anything to "tomorrow" or "the future."

Namely, tomorrow comes and what you have is now outdated.

Add to that bad choices about fitting in with the theme:
  • combustion cars are not "Tomorrow" or part of a "Future World" (Speedway and Test Track);
  • Carousel of Progress is 80% "the past"
  • Imagination is not part of a Future World
  • the optimism of 50s retro-futurism is not represented by an Alien that kills you or one that burps on you or one that tells jokes
  • an aerial hang-glide over present-day places is not a "Future World"
  • a history of human communication is not a "Future World"
Since Future World is going bye-bye, maybe it's time to say good-bye to Tommorowland.
They solved that problem in Meet The Robinsons...

Time Travel! The solution for Tomorrowland's woes. Present the attractions within as being from Past, Present and Future realms. Some retooling would need to occur but it's not a hard sell. I'd start with bringing back Timekeeper or for a modern take, Loki's TVA. The outlier attractions are Lightyear and Laugh Floor. Lightyear could be made to fit based on the upcoming movie tie-in. And Laugh Floor could regrettably (BECAUSE IT BELONGS IN DHS) be retconned to have the doors to the Human World work independent of time and space allowing fo past, present and future storylines and a modified show. It's a stretch but with the right theming and execution it could work.

Didn’t connect the dots but I bet a reason this is back on the table is that the guys down the road have a VR broomstick ride that’s rumored to be fast tracked. Disney maybe doesn’t want to be left out in the cold without a cutting edge VR experience

There was a VR Star Wars experience in Downton Disney at Anaheim called "The Void" pre-COVID. Where is that now? From what I understand "The Void" had to divest itself of all Disney I.P. when they ceased being Downtown Disney tenants, but, could Disney develop its own Star Wars VR experience with different scenarios?

The Void is shuttered world wide. Won't be coming back unless they do bankruptcy gymnastics.

Tomorrowland for me is less about what will actually be there tomorrow and more about a general optimism for the future. Pointing to things in the past and present can help build that confidence in the future. Hence, CoP works for me there.

Test track is electric cars masquerading as gas cars. Presumably this will change next refurb given that GM has changed their logo to be evocative of a plug.
Well... technically... they're not even electric cars. Certainly not automotives because they don't move (motive) on their own (auto).

I found the specifications for the TT "cars" that convey its type of locomotion...

It is a look at the past, not the future, how the past looked at the future. Maybe a ride or experience with something like a Back To The Future DeLorean ride vehicle would help get the concept across. Too bad the Back to the future I.P. belongs to Universal. I think that uniqueness makes it special to get a small glimpse at how the future was once thought of.

It's why I think Tomorrowland should largely become the futuristic take within Disney movies.

this gives credence to my belief that MK's Tomorrowland will get a subtle Arcade retheme. Without it, a Wreck it Ralph attraction is going to feel out of place in TL.
I hate to say it, but the whole IP fitting the theme of the land went away long ago. So at this point if they dropped a Vespa scooter ride based on Luca into tomorrow land. I wouldn't even blink.
