Wow! Monorail Orange.

Exactly this, after all 4 hours on a broken down monorail without air conditioning in sunny 93 degree weather is still better than 4 hours at work!

When you put it like that, we should be paying more for the privilege of riding on a dirty, smelly monorail with sometimes-functional AC.

Big upcharge opportunity here, because lots of people are willing to pay more for what Disney offers up, just ask some posters around here.

I don't know what drugs you are on but I want some so I can disconnect from reality too. It is a common complaint that the AC is weak or non-existent. I rode them 500 straight days (when running) and I always checked the car before I boarded to see if the AC was working. Habit I got into after being trapped in a hot, smelly car too often. Maybe we should do a poll?
Maybe it is a common complaint and perhaps many people are just whining cry babies. I will repeat, I have ridden them for 34 years whether you think my observations are worthy or not, and have never, not even once thought to myself, gee it's hot in here and I am originally for up north and quite affected by heat. So, if you want to go by each individual interpretation of what is hot, the go for it. However, what I have experienced on them is 100% reality, yours is probably just elevated expectation out of a machine that is standing in one spot with huge doors open on each side. And gee that hot Florida air managed to get in the cabin, how shameful.

Today's real feel is 102-105, real high is 92. If a monorail stops in the sun and the AC cuts out it can reach 160 degrees in the cabins within a short time. Just like your car would.

I've been in many monorail cabins where it was sweltering because the AC had not been working over the years, although over the last 12 months I don't remember experiencing or noticing the AC being out at all unless the monorail was holding for traffic or temporary maintenance.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

So what i'?m getting from this thread is "don't leave your dog onboard a monorail on a sunny day "

Agreed on the AC. Most of them seemed to not have it so I noticed it even more when one I boarded a few months ago had it working. To actually notice it working tells me more times than not it hasn't been.
The A/C's are an ongoing project. It takes a lot of time to replace all the components, but is currently one of the primary projects alongside the paint.

They are right, the A/C's on the trains struggle. Sometimes a unit isn't functioning at full capacity, and sometimes its just really hot and having the doors open constantly, especially on resorts, doesn't help. A good example is keeping all your windows and doors open on your house or apartment and expecting your AC to keep up on a 100 degree day.

You'll have to be more explicit. I have been riding the Monorails at WDW for 34 years now and have never encountered a problem with the AC. Do you folks dream a lot or what, cause I'm thinking fear motivated nightmares that the brain interprets as real.
Or you forgot, or you didn't care(aka absorbed in your vacations completely) or you just had very good luck.

I only have been at WDW 3 times (with average of 7 days or 5 days of parks and 7 of hotels) And I had issues 4 times with the monorails.

2 times they smelled like urine and diapers.
1 time it had a very strong braking (probably to avoid hitting something, resumed working 5 minutes later).
1 time had no AC.

All the 4 times, the Monorails were in very bad shape (torn cushions 3 times, huge dust accumulation in the AC vents, trash in the floor). Only 1 time the Monorail was looking decent and sort of cleaned with no rips or tears (still had bad urine smell). I'm not sure which monorail it was, but I think it was Monorail Peach (the best maintained one).

But then, I'm not an old timer with huge experience at WDW from their best to current states.

We must stop holding Disney to an impossibly high standard. It's completely unrealistic to expect this level of cleanliness from them. We should be happy to even ride on a dirty, smelly monorail.

Please be sarcasm. :hilarious:

Great to hear! I was happy when I noticed the AC working well on one of the monorails. I just need to start paying attention to the color I get on ... lol

I'm surprised they didn't add air canons on the doors (those that make a strong air current curtain to prevent the cold from going out)
or adding double windows for isolating better.

Just to be clear... I am not arguing that if the AC isn't working it is going to be hot in there. What I am saying is that I have never experienced anything even slightly uncomfortable. However, that said, if the index is at 105 degrees, you would have to have a super AC to stay ahead of it with a glass surrounded unit that is constantly standing in one space opening doors on both sides while one side exits and the other side enters and then only runs a short distance between stops. What I am saying is that to ask for the impossible and then complain about it not happening, although a very human trait, is just not sensible. The humans on board average 98.6 degrees all by themselves without the sunshine in Florida.

Absolutely, it was 100% sarcasm. :D Someone, in a different thread, made the comment that some of us hold Disney "to an impossibly high standard". So that is now going to be part of my repertoire of comebacks and snarky posts, since holding Disney to the standards they themselves created by their actions and deeds in the past is no longer acceptable to some. ;)

While it may cost a little more and require more labor, they could do what we do at my job. Clean when you can. So, they could have people wiping down the sides of the trains real quick during loading etc.

Arguably bad show, and certainly not efficient, as the monorail CM's have enough to do with load/unload. Not to mention, they can only reach what's visible above the loading platform.

I agree. A stationary wash system, see the Christ Wash System, could be installed in an elevated location toward the monorail "roundhouse" and solve much of the bad show issues. Not sure if there's some sort of tolerance the monorails cannot handle for high pressure water or brushing systems. If not, then the only real reason they don't have a wash system in place already is a lack of will to fund one.
