Would you skip a Disney trip to go see the Winter Olimpics?

I sure would. Disney will always be there.
Yeah but you might not.

It comes down to what you would rather spend your time doing. I wouldn't really enjoy the Winter Olympics in person. I'd prefer to hang with friend and watch from home.

If I died tomorrow I'd be ed if I skipped WDW to stand in line in the cold so see a portion of one event.

That's just me though.

I'll vote for Winter Olympics. You've been to WDW. You can go back to WDW. Each Olympics, summer or winter, is special. It only takes place once. There's historic significance to each Olympics. BE part of history! SEE history made with your OWN eyes, not just on tv. Something people need to realize is that when the Olympics take place it's not just people going to be spectators. They have SOOOOO much going on, things to do and to see. It's not just watching. It IS doing!

Definitely I'm biased on this question. I love the Olympics. I plan to watch my favorite events every time they are held. I enjoy it. Then there's the location for these games. Did someone say Russia???? Seriously???? Holy CRAP! Ever since I was in the 3rd grade...yes, before the fall of the Berlin Wall when Russia was still the Soviet Union...I have been fascinated by Russia. Traveling there is very high on my list of places I will see in my lifetime. Just last week the husband and I reflected on all the WDW trips we took with our boys and both agreed that maybe we should've taken them other places in lieu of the same place over and over. I don't regret traveling with our boys and I wouldn't trade the memories for anything. If I had it to do over, tho, I'd spend half those trips at Disney and the other half seeing the world.

Go to Russia. Go see the games. There IS life outside of Mickey's white-gloved world!

***edit***
Out of curiosity I just asked my 17yro son what he would do: go to the '14 Winter Olympics or go to WDW? He said: "That's the stupidest question over. Olympics." So there ya go! Another vote for the games! ;)

You need to ask this same question on yahoo and see the replies you get because this site is obviously biased.

I agree with @sweetpee_1993... It's RUSSIA. Russia!!!!!! Come on now!!! All my friends were Russian in middle school, some of my teachers were Russian in high school. I've wanted to learn Russian (I can say a few things) and visit the country for the longest. You've got the opportunity and you're contemplating on going to Disney World? Seriously... Gosh, come on. If you don't go, send me your ticket. I'd be gone faster than you can say "daylight". GONE. Who doesn't want to travel the world (no, not in EPCOT!) and see things? I want to visit so many countries. Russia, Italy, France, Spain, Japan, Korea, Mexico, South Africa... The list goes on and on. Please, for Pete's sake, don't throw away this opportunity! People have adored and respected the Olympics for YEARS now. I'm from LA and the Olympics have been held here twice and I never got a chance to see them at either times. If it comes back for a third time, screw Disneyland. I'm going to the Olympics, and I'm not even the biggest fan of sports. I don't watch the Dodgers and Lakers at home, but I sometimes go to the games and they are TONS of fun. Think of the experience. There's more to life than going to Disney all the time. Travel, see the world... GO TO THE WINTER OLYMPICS.

I wouldn't visit Russia since my relationship is a capital crime there.

If I was to visit Russia though it wouldn't be during the Winter Olympics. Has anyone on here actually been to the Olympics? If you're not working it or paying top dollar (combined with having the connections to get into any of the good events) it's a complete nightmare. I can't imagine what they'll be like in Russia with it's poor infrastructure and class inequality.

Yep! I'm not a sports fan either. I don't watch any sports at all, actually. Well, other than the occasional tennis match or golf tournament when it's what the old man is watching. I certainly don't PAY to go to any sports events. LOL!

One of my brother-in-law's was an exchange student and spent some time (I'm thinking the number 3...3 months? 3 weeks???) in Russia. VERY interesting. Then my inlaws hosted a couple Russian exchange students who both still keep in touch with my mother-in-law. My husband and his siblings still talk about their adventures with the Russian kids all the time. If the opportunity to broaden your horizons presents itself, IMO, you'd be remiss to pass that opportunity up.

Everyone's biased. We're just all biased towards the same thing and thus have formed a group. If you ask Yahoo you'll just get answers form a variety of biases.

I know people are biased about different things, but this is a Disney site, where someone asked if they should go to WDW. We all know what the responses are going to be. The answers would have been more varied on Yahoo, like you said, which is the point.

I actually was not open to going to sports games until a couple of years ago. Now I love them, especially when you've got players like Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp on your home team.<3<3<3 I saw Andre Ethier while I was working at Disneyland one day and it took everything within me to stay professional and not scream.

Heck yeah. People who pass on opportunities like this for something they regularly do at home amaze me, really. Your in-laws and husband are lucky! I've always wanted to host foreign exchange students, but my mom isn't open to the idea.:( My Russian friends would always speak and fight in Russian and I'd just stand there, haha. If I ever get the chance to go, I know who to ask to go with me on this site.;)

I guess I just don't see the point. I don't watch those sports on any kind of normal basis, I have absolutely no interest in it...why would I pay so much, to go watch a portion to watch "history being made'....lol It's sports. Its just a bunch of countries who hate eachother, coming around to play sports. Poor kids in overseas countries being abused to preform (huge scandal last year about it), people lying about ages/weights to get their kids in it....

Yeah, no thanks! I'll go stand with the Brazilian tour groups before I go to the Olympics. Now THERES something I've never done before.

Okay, I confess. Back in the day I was totally down with watching Cowboys football because Troy Aikman would be bent over every few minutes and I could drool. My mother bumped into him in an elevator in the Ritz Carlton in dowtown Atlanta once. I asked her if she spoke to him and she said, "Heck no!" My next question was, "Were you standing behind him?" Yep. "What was he wearing?" Jeans. "Dear God, how was the view?" ((blush)) Very nice.

Yes, definitely I'll keep you informed when I'm headed over to Russia. I've been looking at the river cruises that go from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Then I've been looking at other guided land tours. May study the routes they take then create my own independant itinerary. I'd also like to hit the Czech Republic, maybe Budapest and Prague. So much to see...so much history!!!!

Especially since you can usually only see ONE SINGLE event and even then you'll only see part of most events (the end of the luge or one side of the curling) and even if you can see one WHOLE event you usually won't see all the countries compete.

I'm telling you from experience, it's not what people imagine it to be.
