Would you skip a Disney trip to go see the Winter Olimpics?

Winter Olympics? After we just got through this long, snowy, cold, February.... the last thing I want to do is anything connected with winter. NO WAY ... I dont want to watch downhill skiing, snow boarding, cross country skiing, bobsledding, skating, etc. Bring on WDW, Flower and Garden show... Give me some green grass and colorful flowers. The only ice I want to see is the ice in my soda.

The other thing for Me anyway is ...I used to go to 10-15 Islanders Games a Year.

$100.00 a ticket, Warm beer $9, Hamburger and fries $15, Parking $20..It gets crazy after awhile..

I Love my hockey but man...Hi-def flatscreen T.v. with 5.1 surround sound, Pauseable Digital Cable box (comes in handy when you need a Bathroom break), My own bathroom with No Long Lines.

Fridge full of the beer I like, kitchen full of good food and a Big Comfy Sofa with My Ipad in my lap....I

NOTHIng like going into a Live hockey game But,...All this technology makes it real easy to stay in your own house and enjoy it without the expense and hassle.

I may also go to Sochi next year, but I haven't decided yet.

I actually decided against going to WDW a few years back so I could go to the Turin Winter Olympics. However, last year, I did London Olympics and WDW in the same year (although, as I live only 60 miles from London, it wasn't too much of a problem!)

There are a few places I'd like to see that i haven't been, but I never want to be on a plane that long.

And even if I could teleport, I have no interest in visiting Russia, especially if I had to be cold to do it. Don't like cold. Don't like sporting events. Don't like Russia.

Not everything is for everyone, KWIM?

I flew 18 hours to Seoul...I hear you about the long plane ride...

I would honestly give just about anything to be able to go to the winter olympics. That's really kind of a once in a lifetime chance. I'm a big hockey fan though, and don't care all too much about the summer sports so if it were the summer olympics I might not take it. If you're a person who enjoys those sports I'd take it. Disney isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Totally jealous. I adore London. So much history (I'm a European history buff), cool things to do, and great restaurants (though ironically my fave place was an Argentinian steak house). Would have loved to have been there for the Olympics. Maybe Chicago will eventually get that bid and I can go.

The replies in this thread don't surprise me at all.

This is the key demo that goes to wdw so frequently instead of traveling and experiencing the variety we have around us.

Going to the Olympics is not about the best way to see a particular sport. It's an event in itself... Something to experience. The place is packed with various things outside the games themselves.

You guys should check out a Disney fans trip report from Vancouver...

Going to a concert is not the best way to hear a band... Going to a nfl game in person is not the most efficient way to watch the game... And going to the Olympics is not limited to seeing your favorite sport.

If someone would have a chance to go experience a once in a lifetime happening... And picks a sterilized experience you can do anytime you please??? Yup, exactly why Disney doesn't have to try harder.

Well said, sir, well said. Couldn't agree more.

Go to Russia, skip the Olympics. I've had many a crazy night in St Petersburg - ah, the good old days of drinking vodka with the mafia after the ballet as we made fun of the retired KGB agents at the next table.

But just because the main purpose of the trip is the Olympics doesn't mean that's all of the country that he/she is going to see. Personally I would use the time to not only see some of the Olympics but to explore parts of the country as well. I would think just being there for the games would open up some opportunities to go farther afield.

Which was precisely the point I was making above when I said I would only choose the Olympics over WDW if I wanted to visit the country where they were taking place! GMTA :)

I would skip Disney for the Winter Olympics in a heartbeat buuuuuuttttt not one that is in Russia. Their roads are bad, it will be super cold, and there is a lot of corruption over there. If was in Italy, Swiss Alps, France, Canada, even Japan again I am in.

Absolutely! Some people have a once-in-a-lifetime Disney trip, seeing the Olympics (winter or summer) would be my once-in-a-lifetime trip.
