Would you skip a Disney trip to go see the Winter Olimpics?

Heck yes I would go! Especially for summer but winter too I suppose. I went to the Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha in 2008, just before Michael Phelps made is amazing gold medal run. Whoever has said watching sports live is boring, sorry but I'd have to disagree. That place was rockin'. It was such an enjoyable experience.

You've been to Disney. And it's not going anywhere. And as much as I love it, there is more to life and vacations than just Disney World. The Olympics are a once in a lifetime thing. Definitely go!

Difference is you can choose when you go to Disney and choose not go during school breaks, etc. Also, I know where three bathrooms are off the top of my head in relation to this spot.
Some of us can't. i.e. me...my husband is a teacher. Congrats on the bathroom knowledge though.

Only you can make the decision, its a very personal one but if I had the opportunity to go to the Olympics I'd absolutely take it. There is a lot of value in seeing the real world instead of the idealized one locked behind the gates of a theme park.

Of course when you go to something like the Olympics you aren't really seeing the real world then either. You are seeing the carefully controlled version of the country that the host country wants you to see... A Disnefication of that country. If I wanted to go to Russia to say I had been there, then the Olympics would give the ability to do that and do so in a very safe sanitized way... but I would never pretend that my trip under those conditions was in any way shape or form representative of actually visiting that country.

But just because the main purpose of the trip is the Olympics doesn't mean that's all of the country that he/she is going to see. Personally I would use the time to not only see some of the Olympics but to explore parts of the country as well. I would think just being there for the games would open up some opportunities to go farther afield.

No Olympics for me. I don't go to sporting events anymore. I can watch it on tv. So... obviously for me WDW all the way baby!:D

I wish I went to the vancouver opening ceremony, that would make up for all the shows I didn't get to see at Disney. Hopefully there's another good one in 2014.

Never seen so much dislike for sports. Live concerts and games are the only thing that hold me over between Disney trips. I get almost as exited entering a stadium as I do a Disney park :).
I think you just answered your own question then! ;-)
