I work at a school where one of my children just got back from Disney, her mom, was telling me some thing she did all trip which was She stayed off property, for 14 days she had a card from her stay in 2007 she showed it to the guard at ASM and parked there every day and hoped a bus to the park so she didn't have to pay for parking! ..now when i thought about this after she told me I was mad.. I thought ya know when i use the buses and i rarely do because I like to rent a car they are taking up valuable space.. what does every one else think?

People are always looking for ways to "game" the system.

Personally, I think if I were given the choice of free parking at ASM or paying $15/day for parking at the parks, I'd pay for parking. Bus service from All Stars combined with the lost time getting there instead of going direct doesn't seem worth $15 to me.

If she's happy thinking she "got away" with something, I pity her more than anything.

I think it is a bit much to play the system like that.

I'm not a boyscout or anything, but, you know...it's a bit much. I can understand using the trick once, but not for 14 days. That feels like the difference between using a topping bar to make yourself a slightly too large side salad, and using it to fill doggy bags for your entire family.

That is just cheating and basically stealing....I don't care how much you spend at Disney...you don't deserve to cheat. Yes, that makes me angry...and the fact that the kids probably knew the adults were doing something "disney illegal." It's no different than lying about a kids age to get them in on a child's ticket or no different than the thousands of people who use those darn mugs from a previous trip....what a sense of entitlement they have, when the signs are all clearly marked and have been clearly marked "for this trip."

The fact that she used the bus is really immaterial, her using the parking places of paying guests of the resort is more at issue here.

The bus system is for anyone visiting the parks, the parking at the resort is for their guests only.

eh... not that I would do it but 15 bucks a day for 14 days is a lot... around 210 bucks and if she park hops then that's even more... Not saying it's right or I would ever do it but she's not the only one stealing in this situation..

Nothing to get upset about. She was only doing what dozens (maybe hundreds) of people do every day...

Is it right? No. Is it something to get upset about? No.

It falls into the category of Cheap Disney Guests -- but for that family, it might have been the only way to afford a trip there at all.

To be honest, Disney turns a blind eye to situations like this -- they would much rather get their park money than to get no money at all.

While it is something that I absolutely do not condone I am not silly enough to think that it doesn't happen all the time or that Disney doesn't know about it happening. I've seen people pulling up to the parking lots as we were leaving for the parks and the group would rush to the bus stops. I've always just assumed that they were parking for free. And besides, you don't even need a card to get in the gate these days. People just say "I have a dinner reservation for (restaurant name)" and the guards let them in, no further questions asked. At least they have not given us a hard time about it in years. Heck, they haven't given out the white slips of paper for your window in at least 6 or 7 years. I have even seen people parking at the Contemporary and then walking over to MK. But here's the thing, no I wouldn't dream of doing this, but is it really hurting anyone? If saving the money on parking gets those guests in the doors to spend even more money then Disney isn't going to pursue this issue.

This irks me for one reason and one reason only. Last June we stayed at Movies w/our extended family. We had two vans. Drove to IoA and that night coming back into the hotel I couldn't find my room key. The guard held the line for a good 10 minutes...and I was pulling old cards from the cubby on the side of the door and she kept saying "oh this was Dec. '10, or June '10, ...she checked 3 different sets of old keys and finally we found the darn keys in the backpack which was in the back of the van." the rest of the family in the other van was already back at their rooms by the time we got through security. Go figure!

The fifteen dollars is once per day. Just save your receipt and show it when you arrive at the next parking lot.

Don't be mad at the woman for gaming the system.

Be mad at the guards who allowed the game to get played.

I work in a building in central Manhattan where, in order to enter the building, you have to show your work ID. If you lose or forget it, they call the floor where you work to confirm you didn't just get fired the day before, then give you a day pass sticker that will get you in the building, but since your ID is magnetized, you're constantly relying on the kindness of your floor's receptionist or other coworkers to get you from your floor's lobby through the security doors to your desk or office. Security isn't that hard to enact in a parking lot, if the guards are of a mind to give a crap. The security guards could ask to see the ID and make sure it's still a valid one. That they would choose not to leads me to believe that either a: they're too lazy to care or b: Disney has decided this isn't a measure worth pursuing or a problem worth solving. As others have said, maybe they hope if you're in the park, the money you're not spending on parking will be spent elsewhere.

I'd be might peeved if I were staying in a resort where parking couldn't be found because of this, though.

And of course, there's always the possibility that the mom who told the OP this story was just B.S.'ing. Some people do like to tell fibs to see if people will swallow their line. My best friend growing up used to enjoy telling people that his uncle was KISS' road manager.

People like this are out there. Because it's past-tense there's nothing you can do so it does no good to be mad about it. Some things you just gotta leave to karma and let it go. Maybe make the comment, "Wow. You're more brave than me. I'd be afraid of what other way I'd pay down the road by doing something I knew was wrong, bad karma and all." Leave it at that. Ya know?

Or go to MK and say you are going to Chef Mickey's. You'll get to MK or EPCOT alot faster. Not that I've done but when I've stayed off site and gone to Chef Mickey's I tell the CM at the entrance of the park and go right through. I've wondered how many people have done it.

Just park at Downtown Disney, hop to a hotel and have a little mingle and then jump on a bus/boat/monorail to the park you wanna goto.
