World of Color

I hate all the April fools threads as whatnot, but I couldn't resist this. Our leads and some other people started this joke weeks ago. Had a lot of people going, too.

Here's a look at after-hours testing for a new World of Color segment. It looks like they're programming a brand-new Pirates segment -- the scene will also use the Screamin' projections and laser effects that were used for TRONcore

Al Lutz also had news in his update this week about a special 4th of July World Of Color show they are preparing for this summer!

... based on the wild success of DCA’s New Years Eve fireworks and water show at Midnight that used the massive World of Color infrastructure to great effect (pictured below), Anaheim’s Entertainment team has been creating a new patriotic version of World of Color that will play over the entire Independence Day weekend this July. It promises to give Disneyland’s impressive patriotic fireworks show a run for its money, and help spread out the crowds over that very busy holiday weekend.

Sounds fun!

If that happens wouldn't they have to remove the pirates segment if its a encore segment?

This note from Al Lutz has popped up over on Miceage today. Interesting.

Editor's Note 5/20: The World of Color programmers cooked up a new Pirates segment for the upcoming Halloween show, and felt it worked better than the original version from last summer. Some schmoozing between TDA and Studios execs two weeks ago at the movie premiere party about furthering the great Anaheim-Burbank relationship led to an offer to slot most of the new Pirates segment in as a summertime encore to promote the film further. This new Pirates encore and a freshly tweaked World of Color show debut tonight and should run through the summer season. - Al Lutz

So, the new pirates segment was awesome!! Very creepy and fun. It started where the old version started and went to lion king. So no hellfire scene anymore. The ending also has some new effects on screamin

edit: Steve Davidson was there tonight as well :)

I love that in just 1 year of World of Color's existence we have already seen two new segments in the Tron encore and the Pirates update. Really shows the versatility of the show. Glad to see that Disney is actually taking advantage of this -- I hope they continue to do so!

Just out of curiosity, has Fantasmic seen any changes since it premiered in '92?

^ As far as story/content? Nope.

They have updated the special FX/technology throughout the years. New animatronics, lasers, HD projections, enhanced pyro and lighting, etc. However the actual show and storyline hasn't changed.

With this new World of Color update, they also added new fire jets in the lagoon and incorporated the Screamin' laser FX into the finale segment. It's pretty amazing how they continue to upgrade the show with each new revision!

News- 4th of July Preshow

At Disney California Adventure park, we’ve got an all-new Independence Day “World of Color” pre-show which will run prior to each showing of “World of Color” and will combine video, water effects, lighting and fireworks to create a spectacular celebration of American independence.

Rumor-Halloween show on hold?
http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al062111a.htm
The execs in TDA had originally given the go-ahead for a special Halloween version of the show to perform in October and help pull folks over to DCA on nights that Disneyland has their trick or treat parties. But TDA has gotten cold feet over six weeks’ worth of Halloween shows instead of the proven version of World of Color most folks expect.

The Guest Research team will be aiming their questions at determining how each demographic of Disneyland visitors (locals, domestic tourists, international tourists) would react to an entirely different version of a show that would be just over a year old by this September. If the results aren’t favorable this 4th of July, they may hold off on the Halloween version of World of Color for at least another year.

^I definitely think a Halloween show could work as a villians-centric show, but Christmas would be more difficult. However, it, too could be accomplished. Possible scenes (for projections):
-Beauty and Beast snowball fight
-Chip & Dale in Tree from "Pluto's Christmas Tree"
-Marley and Marley and/or It Feels Like Christmas from Muppet Christmas Carol
-End from Mickey's Christmas Carol
-Sandy Claws (isn't that his name--only seen it once) from Nightmare Before Christmas

Finale
-Ernest's face from Ernest Saves Christmas (JK)

Here's a list of Disney Christmas films if anyone else wants to toy with the idea:
