Trip Report World’s best uncle - a different kind of Loco trip.

Season 1 Nbc GIF by The Office

This trip was quite the change of pace for us!

Here’s our main cast. Loco, A, and our niece C.
C06B7883-4036-4283-AFB3-61F5899BC304.jpeg

C is 10 years old. For a little back ground, when C was a baby up until she was almost eight she lived across the street from us. Needless to say we were quite close getting to see her every day. Unfortunately after her parents split up, they sold the house and she lives about 30 minutes from us now. Not far, but we don’t get to see her nearly as often as we once did. We were all three excited to get to spend so much time together again on this trip. I was interested to see how she would handle Disney. She’s at that time where she’s kind of in between being a kid and a big kid. Anyways many of you read the pre trip and updates, so let’s get down to business!

Day 1
Our last several trips we’ve taken a road trip and driven the entire way through the night. While this can be exhausting, it makes for a much faster and easier drive than trying to do it during the day. We would use this same tactic for this trip, hoping that C would be able to sleep for much of the trip. I stayed up super late and was able to sleep until nearly noon on the day of our departure in preparation for my long drive.

We picked up C around 5:30 that evening and were on our way!
AFF82DC9-16CF-4045-8472-EBAA63D3F9E3.jpeg

We made a stop about an hour in for some Chick-fil-A and potty break at target(the CFA was so full it was easier to go into the target next door).

Soon we settled in on our journey across the gulf states. Fortunately C and A both fell asleep around 10 PM and I was able to push through most of Mississippi without stopping. We reached our halfway point at around 2 AM! It was a much needed break to stretch my legs for a bit.

The drive across the Florida panhandle is easily the worst/most boring part of the trip for me. Thankfully A was awake from her nap and kept me company during that long stretch of desolate highway. Shortly after sunup we made it to our next longer break in Live Oak, FL at the Busy Bee, a store similar to a buc-cees without as much fanfare(and higher prices). C had done a great job of sleeping through most of the night, only waking up for the occasional bathroom break.

After our morning stop we were almost there. C’s excitement only grew as we approached the welcome sign!
364400C1-F27D-49BE-BE84-F701E295DB49.jpeg

A wanted to take a look at the character warehouse store, so we headed over to the outlets first. I’d never visited the outlet mall, and having visited them once, I think I’m good for another 20 years or so!

C found some ears she liked for only $7 though, so that was at least something.
BB424E01-961A-494A-9C59-74AE94610676.jpeg

Some food court pizza for C’s lunch. I had a chicken sandwich from somewhere that I don’t remember.

We stopped by OKW on our way to the boardwalk to pick up our magic bands. We’d added a night at boardwalk last minute, so the bands were already at OKW. We were able to pick them up without any issues.

We finally decided to head to boardwalk and maybe grab some pool time.

Our room ready text arrived right as we drove by this sign!

C is an only child and the other niece and nephew are siblings on A’s side. We have offered to take them whenever their parents feel ready. I’m not holding my breath.
Our oldest niece is an only child, but the rest of the kids are also on Rhett's side of the family, so I feel like they'd be annoyed if we only took her. I wouldn't be able to handle all of them together though :hilarious: I can only handle one human under 18 at a time.

We love Deluxe resort extra magic hours and it’s obvious you all had the most magical time! I’m so glad C has such wonderful memories of that night!

Day 6.

This day will be short and sweet.

We all slept in. I awoke around nine(that’s very late for me). A woke up shortly afterwards. We were both feeling hungry for real breakfast food. We normally only have muffins or something light for breakfast. I checked for availability at Olivia’s, but there was none and the waitlist was nearly an hour long. I decided to go grab some food from good’s food to go but as I was about to leave A checked one more time and got us a reservation at Olivia’s for ten, about 15 minutes from then. By that time C was awake so she quickly got dressed and we all headed across the street for breakfast.

Just a little kid here @MickeyCB

Back to nearly teenager moments later.
B795F184-CB95-49C3-BFFA-5E05F7083918.jpeg

Actually that’s just how long we waited for our food. We’ve had some great meals at Olivia’s, but this time the food took for-ev-errrrr. I’m guessing they were understaffed in the kitchen, but wow was it frustrating. The restaurant was nearly empty and we waited over forty five minutes for our meal. I’m hoping this was just an off day. I’d have no hesitation in going back to Olivia’s in the future.

After breakfast we spent some time in the community hall just hanging out and doing some coloring.

We ended up hanging at the hotel for most of the day. We got plenty of pool time in, and C found another friend to ride the water slide with her.

C had yet to ride the monorail, so we bussed over to MK for a grand circle tour of seven seas lagoon. C took her mandatory daily selfies on the bus ride.

First stop on the monorail was contemporary, where we had a little afternoon snack.

We had to browse the shops of course.

Heading to the poly to look for pin trading stations.

She traded with the DVC rep, who was so kind and shared with us his daughter’s story about having severe communication issues and how pin trading ended up being a huge part of her finally learning to open up and communicate with people. He also shared some new DVC swag with us(not pictured here)!

We spent a small amount of time at the grand to complete the tour. Dinner was at Hoop-Dee-Doo. I thought C made a very fitting choice for her outfit!

Day six continued.

We took the monorail back to MK and quickly caught a boat for Ft. Wilderness. We arrived a bit earlier than expected so we found some rocking chairs near the shop and let C play on the playground nearby before finally checking in to be seated.

C absolutely LOVED Hoop-Dee-Doo. She clapped along with every song and laughed at all the jokes.

Of course making noise with the washboard was her favorite part.

We considered another evening at MK, but we all three decided it was best to just get back to the room for a full nights sleep before our last day at the parks.

The great thing about Hoop-Dee-Doo is that it is a timeless experience. Other things in life might have been met with rolled eyes when my DD was a tween and then teen, but from our first visit there when she was 6 she has always asked if we are going back and has allowed herself to enjoy it each time.

Day seven.

Our last day visiting the parks. We were at Epcot this morning. According to this random photo, we did soarin first. Makes sense as it’s one of C’s favorites.

We finally got a chance to ride SSE. It had been down every time we tried before.

Epcot was definitely struggling this morning. Lots of major attractions down, causing high wait times everywhere else. Guardians would be down most of the morning.

What do you do when you’re out of attractions? Go to club cool of course. We must try the Beverly!

Not great. “Very sus”, as C would say.

Let’s make our way around to C’s favorite ride. But first, photos!

C loves figment!

Now on to the main attraction. Yes, Figment is C’s number one most loved attraction. The song and the cute purple dragon just do it for her.

Day seven continued.

After figment we went to meet the big cheese. There is rarely a line for this meet near the 3D theater.

We were curious if C would think she was too cool for character hugs. Thankfully that was certainly not the case!

Day seven continued.

Lunch was at the Mexico QS. C got chicken nuggets. A and I shared an order of nachos that weren’t as good as they once were.

Day seven continued.

We’d been roaming WS trying to kill time hoping our Gaurdians BG would be called soon, but the ride was still down. Luckily I got a text saying “I’m in France if you guys wanna hang for a bit”(or something like that). We hustled over to France to meet a new friend. It’s Zelda!

She was still working, she just didn’t know it! It was great getting to meet Mr. 9000 and having a nice little chat about dogs, disney, other things in life. I look forward to seeing you again sometime sir. A says make sure to bring another puppy!

There is a nice group photo of us on someone’s phone in the Atlanta area. Maybe one day he’ll finish his TR and we’ll all see it. 😉

Our BG was finally called so we said goodbye to our new friends and made a beeline for guardians. We had a much shorter wait this time. As you can see, miss C decides to pass this time around. She’s not a big fan of coasters. We got Conga as our song, which we both enjoy.

Afterwards we browsed some shops before heading back to the hotel. C had her eye on a big prize at the imagination pavilion. It’s the Figment cuddleez!

According to her mother this is now her number one plushie. It was her biggest purchase of the trip.

Day seven continued.

When we made it back to the hotel A was not feeling so hot and needed to rest. C and I decided to head to the community hall to give A some quiet time. A storm was in the area, so the hall was quite crowded for a bit.

We did get back to the room for some rest of our own. We all woke up feeling refreshed. The afternoon thunderstorms made for a nice nap.

We would be spending our last night a MK.

Dinner was at Crystal Palace. C is a huge Winnie the Pooh fan, so this was a must do for her. The characters were around as we were seated. She spotted them immediately of course.

All caught up with your last few updates! Love that you got so many great photopass pictures with C and my favorite was the magic shot with the Orange Bird! Hoop De Doo is always a big hit with the adults and kids alike it seems. We haven't done it since 1982! So wonderful that you were able to meet up with @wdisney9000 and Zelda!!! Perfect way to end a trip is at MK with a meal at Crystal Palace and some Pooh friends!

I love the story of your late night in MK! Back when WDW had crazy hours and crazy resort 'extra hours' my son and I were at MK from midnight to 2 am. It was pouring rain the entire time but we had a blast. He was around 10 at that time, he's in college now and he still texts me at random times about it. The last one we shared was - 'Do you remember that time we rode Dumbo in it's old location in the pouring rain and the CMs were so fun and let us ride over and over since we were the only ones?' You'll still be getting texts like that from your niece in 10ish years ;) - Core memories for sure!

Haha I do miss those super late night hours. There were nights back in the day where I wouldn’t even enter MK untill 10 PM or later and still have hours of fun! The latest I can remember being there is 3 AM during EMH during summer of 2006. I don’t know if I could make it that long anymore. 1 AM seems to be about as late as I can go now!
