Trip Report World’s best uncle - a different kind of Loco trip.

Season 1 Nbc GIF by The Office

This trip was quite the change of pace for us!

Here’s our main cast. Loco, A, and our niece C.
C06B7883-4036-4283-AFB3-61F5899BC304.jpeg

C is 10 years old. For a little back ground, when C was a baby up until she was almost eight she lived across the street from us. Needless to say we were quite close getting to see her every day. Unfortunately after her parents split up, they sold the house and she lives about 30 minutes from us now. Not far, but we don’t get to see her nearly as often as we once did. We were all three excited to get to spend so much time together again on this trip. I was interested to see how she would handle Disney. She’s at that time where she’s kind of in between being a kid and a big kid. Anyways many of you read the pre trip and updates, so let’s get down to business!

Day 1
Our last several trips we’ve taken a road trip and driven the entire way through the night. While this can be exhausting, it makes for a much faster and easier drive than trying to do it during the day. We would use this same tactic for this trip, hoping that C would be able to sleep for much of the trip. I stayed up super late and was able to sleep until nearly noon on the day of our departure in preparation for my long drive.

We picked up C around 5:30 that evening and were on our way!

We made a stop about an hour in for some Chick-fil-A and potty break at target(the CFA was so full it was easier to go into the target next door).

Soon we settled in on our journey across the gulf states. Fortunately C and A both fell asleep around 10 PM and I was able to push through most of Mississippi without stopping. We reached our halfway point at around 2 AM! It was a much needed break to stretch my legs for a bit.

The drive across the Florida panhandle is easily the worst/most boring part of the trip for me. Thankfully A was awake from her nap and kept me company during that long stretch of desolate highway. Shortly after sunup we made it to our next longer break in Live Oak, FL at the Busy Bee, a store similar to a buc-cees without as much fanfare(and higher prices). C had done a great job of sleeping through most of the night, only waking up for the occasional bathroom break.

After our morning stop we were almost there. C’s excitement only grew as we approached the welcome sign!

A wanted to take a look at the character warehouse store, so we headed over to the outlets first. I’d never visited the outlet mall, and having visited them once, I think I’m good for another 20 years or so!

C found some ears she liked for only $7 though, so that was at least something.

Some food court pizza for C’s lunch. I had a chicken sandwich from somewhere that I don’t remember.

We stopped by OKW on our way to the boardwalk to pick up our magic bands. We’d added a night at boardwalk last minute, so the bands were already at OKW. We were able to pick them up without any issues.

We finally decided to head to boardwalk and maybe grab some pool time.

Our room ready text arrived right as we drove by this sign!

We were just ahead of the parade.

Of course we had to grab some treats from the confectionery for an afternoon snack! PB pie for A and I.

C went with the apple. She would snack on it for multiple days.

We all took a nice nap that afternoon and skipped the pool. I finally got out of bed when my late afternoon alarm went off.

There’s a few things that would get me to leave such a wonderful nap. Dinner at Sebastian’s is one of them!

They added fish to the menu. It was…..bad.

Luckily the rest of the food was good as usual, especially my favorite dessert!

As we were leaving the restaurant I heard a familiar voice calling my name. I turned around to see none other that @Tuvalu waving me down. What a sweet ending to the meal! I’m sorry we didn’t get to have a longer visit, but I’m always glad to see you my friend! Thanks to Em for snapping a quick pic!

That was certainly a chock full morning/afternoon at MK so I can see how the afternoon nap was needed! How wonderful that you got to do a quick meet up with Tuvalu and Em! Your fish looked a bit under cooked. 🥴
I believe I told @Tuvalu “I feel like I just licked a fish” or something to that effect. I like seafood but that was a big miss.

Day four.

After dinner we hopped on the skyliner for an evening at DHS. Side note for those who have never eaten at CBR. The lobby and restaurant are not close at all to the skyliner!

Next up was MMRR. A spottted the Mickey in this light fixture just before the pre show.

We headed over to fantasmic to grab a seat. We arrived about 25 minutes before showtime and had good seats near the middle.

C enjoyed the show quite a bit. Afterwards we took the skyliner(five minute wait) back to CBR to retrieve our car and headed back to OKW for the night.

Day five.
DHS day. A day I once looked forward to, but the park has fallen out of favor with me thanks to its poor design and terrible ride downtime. I am down to just having one RD day per trip here, and I might very well stop doing that in future visits.

We arrived in time for early entry where we were informed that rise of the resistance was having a “delayed opening”. Not wanting to stand around and see if that was true or not(it often isn’t), we decided to rides TSMM since C really liked it the previous night. The girls would team up to try to defeat me.

Someone had to get a picture with this cool wall.

Next up was ToT. A and I rode and C took the chicken exit. The theming was a little too effective for her! 😂

C had her eye on an orange bird park buddy so we stopped at once upon a time to see if they had it. Great success!

Some pictures on Hollywood ave. on our way over to muppets.

The photopass CM, Willie, was really awesome! Reminded me of the old days for a moment. He laughed and joked with us for quite some time.

We made sure to pay Willie a compliment on the app. I like to think we helped him get some recognition from his managers. This was posted to Disney’s social media a few days later!

Some pics on echo lake with our new friend.

C is really into the newer Mickey cartoons, so we stopped by the Mickey shorts theater for a laugh and some air conditioning.

I can’t let a trip go by without seeing the muppets!

C loves the muppets. I don’t know why Disney thinks kids don’t love the muppets anymore. Maybe they’re not providing good content? The new muppets mayhem series does give me hope!

We had a lunch reservation to get to in TSL. As we were cutting through Batuu we noticed a small gathering and hoped it was for Mando and Grogu. We were right! Such a cool character experience!

Lunch was at Roundup Rodeo. A new restaurant for all of us.

We checked in right at our reservation time and were seated within a few minutes.

I believe the restaurant is placed under Andy’s bed. Every ten minutes or so some special audio will play. There were various clips about soluting the green army men troops, rodeo heroes, other stuff. There is of course the one that features Andy and causes everyone to freeze in place. This happened twice during our meal.

Day five continued.

Some food photos and my thoughts on said food. Please note I will not be using the ridiculous names that someone at Disney worked really hard to come up with.

Salads and biscuits. The biscuits were very good paired with the pepper jelly. The salads were also good with the watermelon being my favorite.

The meats. For the most part all very good. The beef brisket was the standout. The ribs were a little underwhelming, but still not bad.

We also had fried pickles and slaw. I’m not a big pickle or slaw eater(the girls chose them), so I won’t comment on them.

Overall we enjoyed our meal. The food was good, but our server was not. I’m in no rush to go back, but I’m sure we will return at some point. A similar meal with better food can be had at whispering canyon cafe for a bit less money at dinner and far less money at lunch.

As I mentioned in @MickeyCB’s TR we were disappointed. Everything was fatty-especially the beef brisket!!
I’m glad to hear that it seems like you had a better experience than we did!!!
We did have a few fatty pieces of meat but nothing too outrageous, i actually like a little fat with my brisket. It was definitely a little lower quality than expected for the price.

C looks like she is having the best time on this trip! Glad to hear you enjoyed your lunch for the most part. I’ve gotten the feeling from a lot of posters on various boards that it’s getting mixed reviews for food and service.
I’d say the food is good but not great. Our server was definitely not good, but the table behind us had a great waiter so obviously not all of the service is bad. Hopefully they’ll continue to improve and not just rely on their location to fill tables.
