Trip Report World’s best uncle - a different kind of Loco trip.

Season 1 Nbc GIF by The Office

This trip was quite the change of pace for us!

Here’s our main cast. Loco, A, and our niece C.

C is 10 years old. For a little back ground, when C was a baby up until she was almost eight she lived across the street from us. Needless to say we were quite close getting to see her every day. Unfortunately after her parents split up, they sold the house and she lives about 30 minutes from us now. Not far, but we don’t get to see her nearly as often as we once did. We were all three excited to get to spend so much time together again on this trip. I was interested to see how she would handle Disney. She’s at that time where she’s kind of in between being a kid and a big kid. Anyways many of you read the pre trip and updates, so let’s get down to business!

Day 1
Our last several trips we’ve taken a road trip and driven the entire way through the night. While this can be exhausting, it makes for a much faster and easier drive than trying to do it during the day. We would use this same tactic for this trip, hoping that C would be able to sleep for much of the trip. I stayed up super late and was able to sleep until nearly noon on the day of our departure in preparation for my long drive.

We picked up C around 5:30 that evening and were on our way!

We made a stop about an hour in for some Chick-fil-A and potty break at target(the CFA was so full it was easier to go into the target next door).

Soon we settled in on our journey across the gulf states. Fortunately C and A both fell asleep around 10 PM and I was able to push through most of Mississippi without stopping. We reached our halfway point at around 2 AM! It was a much needed break to stretch my legs for a bit.

The drive across the Florida panhandle is easily the worst/most boring part of the trip for me. Thankfully A was awake from her nap and kept me company during that long stretch of desolate highway. Shortly after sunup we made it to our next longer break in Live Oak, FL at the Busy Bee, a store similar to a buc-cees without as much fanfare(and higher prices). C had done a great job of sleeping through most of the night, only waking up for the occasional bathroom break.

After our morning stop we were almost there. C’s excitement only grew as we approached the welcome sign!

A wanted to take a look at the character warehouse store, so we headed over to the outlets first. I’d never visited the outlet mall, and having visited them once, I think I’m good for another 20 years or so!

C found some ears she liked for only $7 though, so that was at least something.

Some food court pizza for C’s lunch. I had a chicken sandwich from somewhere that I don’t remember.

We stopped by OKW on our way to the boardwalk to pick up our magic bands. We’d added a night at boardwalk last minute, so the bands were already at OKW. We were able to pick them up without any issues.

We finally decided to head to boardwalk and maybe grab some pool time.

Our room ready text arrived right as we drove by this sign!

Day five continued.
The photographer at the TSL sign had just returned from a break. We were fortunate to be walking by to grab a few pictures.

They had a photographer with them so A and I joined in on the fun.

Lines were long and crowds were high. We decided to head for the exit.

Day five

C had an itch for more pins. We browsed the large selection at Celebrity 5 & 10 before making a decision. No time to wait before opening our new prize!

We headed back to OKW and enjoyed a nice nap in the cold A/C. We would be spending our evening at MK.

We made a full loop before heading to Tomorrowland for another MPB.

This was our first trip since the return of HEA fireworks. It’s A’s favorite show, so I booked us a dessert party as a surprise for her. Here’s a sampling of what was offered.

We lingered under cover enjoying our food and drink while the rain fell outside. Eventually we would don our ponchos and head out to grab our spot for the show.

Your niece was living her best life - magic band, ears, lanyard, pins, Orange Bird shoulder thingie, (that would have been me at her age) and most importantly an aunt and uncle who obviously love her a lot. :) This trip will be a lasting memory for her. BTW - she looks so cute and happy Disney should feature her/all of you in an ad.

C really enjoyed her time at DHS & MK and what a great surprise getting to do the Fireworks Dessert Party! Hope the rain stopped before the fireworks began.
It did in fact let up for the fireworks, and then came roaring back.

Thanks for the kind words! She really was all in on the Disney merch! 😂

It's so cute because you can see she is about 10 minutes from that cross over time of little shyish girl to teen. I suspect this was a gift you may or may not realize you got to experience.
Oh we were painfully aware. It made this trip really bittersweet in a way. We can bring her back, but it’ll never be the same as this trip. I’m glad we got to share some of the last moments of her just being a kid!

Showtime! I know it looks like we’re packed in, but I had a good four feet on either side of me.

I tried not to take too many pictures and just enjoy the show.

After the show I had the joy of meeting @amjt660 and his lovely wife! Max and I have had some chats and quite a few interactions on these boards through the years and it was great to finally meet up. Next time I hope we can spend a whole evening in the parks together!

C was really wanting to drive one of the race cars on Tomorrowland speedway. Not wanting to try and fold myself in and out of a tiny car, I volunteered to be the bag holder while the girls rode. A did an excellent job photographing their adventure!

We headed for small world next, but as we passed the carousel C remarked that she’d never ridden a carousel before. That was quickly remedied!

We did make it to small world, where C was lost in deep thought.

Haunted Mansion had a “13” minute wait, so we had to take advantage of that!
2CC2CE6F-9FE7-4B56-A19A-EB7BA73C702A.jpeg

C spent most of the ride worried something or someone was going to jump into our doom buggy, despite my assurances that this was all in good fun. She ended up enjoying it by the time we made it to the last scene.
DB484E8A-07CF-4915-8FB2-7DA4A2F3747D.jpeg

The rain started to fall again as we left the mansion. We were undeterred(mostly).
AECC0EC1-C150-4FAB-9010-108061D7FC06.jpeg

Not pictured due to the torrential rainfall was a very memorable ride on magic carpets!

We took shelter in pirates, which was a walk on. C wanted to do this pose, then forgot when it was time to take the picture, but hey at least this one showed up!

A has always wanted to do the lantern picture, but we’ve never been at the right place at the right time. They actually moved it under cover near pan due to the rain.

Loving this report so far (I know, I'm 7 pages in...I'm way late). It's just the sweetest that you took your niece :inlove: I wish we could do this with our oldest niece (my husband's sister's daughter) but we have too many other nieces and nephews, so I can't hurt anyone's feelings :hilarious:

Much to my chagrin my beloved citrus swirl wasn’t showing up on the mobile order menu(curse you broken machine)
This happened to me too!! But then my local friend got one right after we were there in May. She had to go up to the window and ask for it. They made it for her! I'm hoping to try when we're there later this month.

We only have two nieces and one nephew. C is an only child and the other niece and nephew are siblings on A’s side. We have offered to take them whenever their parents feel ready. I’m not holding my breath.

Day five

We had about thirty minutes before the end of extended evening hours. C was interested in Peter Pan, but not enough to brave the 45 minute posted wait. Instead we opted for the teacups. A decided to be brave and ride with C.

We had time for one more attraction if we hustled. Buzz was the winning choice. “Girls only” again this time.

I tried to take advantage of a ride stoppage to get a perfect score, but it didn’t last long enough. Another ten seconds would’ve done it.

After our friendly competition the park was officially closed. We stopped for some empty castle pictures.

We had such a blast during the late night hours at MK! C has remarked several times since we got home about this night and how much fun she had. Needless to say she was out like a light by the time our bus made it back to OKW. We somehow all got showered and in bed around 2 AM.
