I'm so sorry he's tested positive! Does this mean you will cancel your DC trip, or will you just go without him? I know you've been worried about it....at least once he's over it, he shouldn't get it again soon, so him refusing to wear a mask shouldn't be a big deal for a few weeks anyway. Are you still testing negative?

As of 6 AM, I am still negative.

I am not sure if we are canceling at this point. My husband seems like he is back to normal. My son's fever went up to 103 overnight, though. He called his doctor yesterday, but he slept through the phone call. My son called back, but the doctor never returned his call yesterday. So, my husband called the on call doctor and said to keep an eye on him, but if he got worse overnight, call back this AM. His fever went from 101 to 103, so he is going to call back.

I know this is anecdotal, but my son is unvaccinated and refused to wear a mask once my husband tested positive. I am vaccinated and I popped a mask on once my husband tested positive. I even drove in the car with him, both of us masked and all windows open. It is highly likely I will get this, ofc, but I think the reason I haven't gotten sick yet is my mask-wearing. I will probably catch it from him. The cat came to the door for food and she freaked out when she saw the mask, so I took it off. My son was in the kitchen with me and he sneezed. I put my mask back on immediately. I was kneeling in front of the open patio door petting the cat, so I was facing away from him and my face was outdoors ( so I am hopping this helps a bit). This was just before he started feeling ill.

It's not the end of the world if we have to cancel, the hotel room was paid for with loyalty points and the train tickets can be used on other dates, so we can go another time. :)

That's such a challenge when everyone else around you has it. You're literally trying to dodge illness bullets left and right. I guess at least travel shouldn't be hard to rebook for a better time, but it's tough when you planned on going at a specific point. Hoping you stay negative and everyone else improves. Fingers crossed your son's temp gets back down to normal soon. I have to wonder if this will make him change his feelings on vaccinations and masks.

I hope it doesn't get too much worse for him. I just wondered if you were going to consider going without him, since he can't go if he's got covid, and it's kind of his own fault he caught it because he won't take precautions. It would certainly be a lesson in consequences. But I also understand if you don't want to do that. I think the fever was the worst for me when I had it....I was so loopy. I didn't cough much, but I felt so tired and loopy and just not good. And I was vaccinated...I can imagine it would have been worse if I hadn't been.

Hope you don't catch it!! Is your husband still testing positive?

My husband and I wondered about him changing his tune on the covid vaccine and masks. He got sick so fast and he is in a much worse state than husband when he first tested positive. We had a back and forth with the doctor's office, while his fever kept rising even with alternating Advil and Tylenol. He was 104 yesterday. We finally got a script for paxlovid, and I feel so much better now. He still had a fever this AM, but it's 101 and he has only had one dose of the Paxlovid. I am sure with additional doses, he will continue to improve.

This whole thing has me feeling better about the vaccine's effectiveness over time. I think even after a year since my husband's booster he had some protection. His symptoms were very mild before he started Paxlovid. My son's experience was much different, it knocked him down so quickly and he went downhill so fast. I was in close contact with my husband while he was the most contagious and I am still testing negative (but I am not taking that for granted).

Yes, as long as I feel he has turned the corner, we will go without him. It *is* entirely his own fault he got ill. If he got ill while being fully vaccinated and wearing a mask once my husband tested positive, I'd be totally sympathetic. He chose to ignore all medical advice. Actions, let me introduce you to Consequences. I am really angry with him and I was really tripping when his fever was 104. My husband had to really push for the prescription, too.

My husband hasn't retested yet. He finishes the antiviral today so he wanted to wait until he completed that before re-testing. He has been fever free since Monday. So I think that's a good sign. He has been working from home the whole time, he was never really super sick. He said he felt like he had a cold with a low grade fever.

Oh wow! 104 is downright scary! I'm so glad you were able to get your son on Paxlovid and it brought down his temp. Not that 101 is fun, but 101 is manageable. Also good to hear that you're still testing negative.

Wow, good he's improving . I've lost ones I know who were anti vax . They paid the ultimate price.

I am sorry about your loved ones passing. I think it's frustrating to watch people suffer when there were tools available to them to mitigate the worst effects. A death that could have been prevented is both heart-breaking and rage-inducing. I am hoping my son changes his mind about these vaccines, because this virus ain't goin' nowhere.

Good morning,

Checking in with a full body workout I found on YouTube. It was 40 min and it used dumbbells. I have had a sore throat since last night, but I tested negative. It could be my sinuses acting up, it's that time of year for me. My ear feels full, too. I don't feel ill, but I do have a lot of post nasal drip. I could also not have enough of the virus to show up positive as well.

My husband pulled the plug on the hotel last night. It was the deadline to get the points back if that's how you paid for the room. He said there are loads of rooms available on points for this weekend, so we can still go if things change. He tested positive this AM, so he wants to see what happens between now and Sat. We go to Phoenix in a couple of weeks and he is more concerned with everyone being well for that. That is harder to reschedule because he needs to book longer vacations far in advance. With DC, he only needs to take a Monday or Friday off, so it's easier to reschedule that. :)

I don't know how it was for your husband and son, but when I had Covid, I immediately felt ill. It all happened pretty quickly, but it was quite different than my seasonal sinus issues. Mine was a variant last summer (which is supposedly milder than what's circulating right now), so I was feeling fine by day 4 and tested negative in about a week's time. I'm currently on day 9 of dealing with a URI (tested Covid negative twice) and this has been so much worse than my Covid experience. Hopefully, you're still negative and feeling better.

UTIs are awful. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

I tested negative last night, then all hell broke lose around 2 AM. My body hurts so badly. I did test positive this morning. My bones hurt and I needed help to get to the toilet. It hurts to touch my skin and I have headache with a dry cough. I also have GI symptoms. I’m alternating between ibuprofen and Tylenol. The intensity is more like my son’s rather than my husband. I’ve been in bed all day and I took some advil so I feel slightly better for now. It just makes me angry that my husband was the one who brought this into the house by going into crowded pubs with his friends without a mask and he only had a head cold with a low fever. I have heavy nausea and I’ve been sick a few times. This is like a mash up of influenza and noro virus. It’s awful.

I’m feeling better today. The sore throat aches and nausea are gone. Now I just feel like I have a bad upper respiratory infection. I’m just stuffed up. I can’t taste or smell anything, but I’m also super congested. My son gave me one of his pills for stopping dry cough and I slept so much better last night. I hope this is a good sign. I’m still very tired, but having the nausea and body aches has made such a difference. ☺️

Any chance you might be able to get a prescription for Paxlovid, to help you out?

My husband was just talking about this with me. I never had a fever over 100. I read that ppl with depression are considered high risk, so maybe I should. The doctor was so reluctant to prescribe it for my son. It wasn’t until his fever hit 104 that he finally wrote a script. But I did read that studies have shown it reduces your chance of long Covid, so maybe it’s not a bad idea to see what my doc thinks.

I talked to a nurse practitioner over the phone. She said I had the worst set of symptoms of pts she’s spoken to so far in the current uptick. She prescribed me paxlovid, stuff for my dry cough and prescription strength Mucinex. I get these dry coughing fits and I can’t catch my breath.

I wasn’t going to bother with getting help. I didn’t think my symptoms were bad enough. She was very patient with me. It’s hard for me to speak right now bc I’m so hoarse and congested.

Best wishes that you'll start feeling better very soon. Usually the Paxlovid kicks in within 1-2 days, and the other medicines will also help you. Please rest, drink fluids, and take good care.

It was a URI. Don't get me wrong, UTI's are utterly awful. In fact, I prefer the URI to a UTI. This is just the upper respiratory bug that's been going around since school started. We really thought it might be Covid since it came with gastro issues, but negative for us on multiple tests.

I'm so sorry you tested positive and are feeling so poorly. I hope your symptoms have improved since your last post. I can understand your anger as well. You've taken so many precautions and the one to give it to you and your son not only wasn't as careful but didn't get it as badly. Get some rest and get plenty of fluids. If anyone can get to the store, Pedialyte is one of the best things to have handy for this.

Thank you. The Paxlovid really seemed to kick in about 3 doses in. After the second AM dose, I was able to get out of bed and watch a little TV on the couch that evening.
