Just wanted to share that we all tested negative and have made it to Port Canaveral! We’re hoping to catch the SpaceX launch tomorrow morning before boarding.

We caught a sail away from the hotel and another one close up just after dinner. Tomorrow, this will be us! And then it’s time to get in some working out while in vacation mode.
Have a great cruise!

Yay! 🥳

I hope you all have an injury-free, skin infection-free, relaxing cruise.

Why anyone would be out by the pool or beach in this intense heat is risky too. Hydrate hydrate hydrate or else one might have a heatstroke.

@HouCuseChickie , as mentioned above, please remember to drink lots of water during this intense heat wave.

Yes! Lots of hydrating! Thankfully, it’s been wetter and cooler as we’ve ventured east. We went from 103-105 daily averages at home to upper 80s. It’s sounding like low to mid 80s will be the highs we see on the cruise. Still need lots of water, because the sun can still wipe you out.

Hello-

Checking in with a lower body circuit training workout. I'm still feeling like I need to dial back the intensity a bit for now. I don't think I am sleeping very well with this heat, even though we have the AC going. I also feel like I am fighting off a sinus infection. I started getting upper teeth pain/cheek on my right side yesterday. I didn't sleep well because of that, either. I took a covid test to rule that out and it was negative. So, I took some Allegra and ibuprofen to hopefully head off any development of a sinus infection. When I went to swab the nostril with the sinus pain, I nearly went through the roof.

I am probably going up with my husband to Jersey City tonight. If I start feeling worse, I'll sit it out. But I like having somewhere new to explore on my walks. The gym is absolutely dead during the day and I also get the deck to myself. There is a mandatory amenity fee for these things, so I might as well use them. :)

Sorry you are feeling less than great. Maybe just take it easy for a day or two and give your body a chance to rest and recuperate?

Hello-

Checking in with an upper body circuit training workout, then I went for a walk around the area. OMG, it was so much nicer than last week. Last week was really hot and extreme heat makes my stomach hurt, so I cut last week's walk in Liberty State Park short. Today, I just wandered around in beautiful weather. Bonus: once yesterday's storms blew though and the humidity dropped, my sinus and teeth felt 80% better, when I woke up this AM, the pain and swelling was completely gone. So I don't think I have a sinus infection. I couldn't even chew food on that side on my mouth, so I am pleased that pain is gone. I think it was just pressure from the high level of humidity.

My son had been worrying because we hadn't seen Callie since Thursday night, I think? Maybe Friday morning. But we were under an excessive heat warning all weekend. He was worried maybe she'd gotten sick from the heat and died. But he sent me a photo of her this AM. She looked skinny and he said she was eating a lot. I think she hasn't been eating. I'm relieved for him, because my husband said he woke up to a bunch of texts from him saying he thought she was dead and he was upset.

Yeah, that might be in order. How are you guys doing after last week?
We're good. We're in my hometown area, so it's pretty relaxed. Had dinner with the D.A.R.E. officer from when I was a kid, and then last night with some friends in my home town. Today we meet up with my cousins and then have dinner with some of my dad's old friends who helped us a lot when he died. He was basically living with them when he died. So We're just making the rounds, seeing people. Tomorrow we'll head to South Dakota and see the badlands. We haven't really had any serious problems since our mountain detour. My husband did book us at a real stinker of a hotel in Casper. He hadn't helped me with any of the planning and I was feeling really overwhelmed with it all. The suddenly he says he wants to take a look at all the hotels I booked, because I booked through booking.com where I had free cancellation with everything, since we weren't sure our flight would go, that Yellowstone would be open, etc. But I didn't know he already had Genius level 2 on booking, where I was starting from scratch. So suddenly he wants to check all the hotel stuff and see if he could get us a better deal. I had booked the cheapest hotels that looked decent and had the amenities I wanted. Like, when we were staying a few nights, I wanted a pool so we could unwind at the end of the day. Well, when he looked, he was kind of upset that I hadn't booked the cheapest of the cheap places. I explained that I didn't want to stay in a carphole, so there were some I had purposely NOT booked. He was pressuring me to change them to the cheap places. I refused on most of them, but he was getting really frustrated and saying that you know, we could stay at THIS place for a lot cheaper, and did I really need a pool, etc. I had booked us in Casper at a really nice place....the only NICE place I had booked us. I figured for one night, we could splurge, and it wasn't THAT expensive...most of the places I had booked were under $100 per night and this one was like $160, but it had a nice indoor pool, it had a gym. He kind of threw a hissy fit about it and we could stay at the motel 6 for less than HALF that price. I tried to explain that Motel 6 doesn't have a great reputation...it's not going to be a very nice place, and I really didn't want to stay in a hole. He says "Well I didn't book us in a hole, now, did I!?" He kind of forced me to change that one, and I had refused all his other choices because they didn't save much or didn't save anything. So I felt like I HAD to give in to this one. I really shouldn't have. At least I was spared telling him I told him so. We got there and there were some people loitering outside being loud and obnoxious and the gal had to go out and tell them to go away, there were police there for some reason. We went into the room and it REEKED of smoke, there were stains on the walls, on the bed, it didn't look clean, the beds were small and not comfortable. He says "Well should I go see if we can change to a non-smoking room?" I said I thought the whole hotel was non-smoking. E looks and shows him that there's a no smoking sign on the door. I told him, they are ALL going to be like this....that's Motel 6." He seemed kind of shocked that it was not a nice hotel, like he hadn't believed me when I said I didn't want to stay in a carphole. He honestly thought I was exaggerating because I wanted to stay in the expensive one. Well, a few comments from the kids about feeling unsafe, about it being about the same as one he booked us in in Germany one time, about not wanting to shower there because it felt unclean, and the fact that there was a drug deal going down there when we came back from dinner that night, and then A couldn't sleep because there were people being really loud outside...I think he got the picture all on his own, without me telling him I had told him. I could tell by the pictures on the website that it wasn't going to be a nice place. The room was so small, there was barely room to put the suitcases in the room, but you couldn't leave anything in the car....it was not a good neighborhood. And it was super basic....there was nowhere to plug things in, we couldn't get connected to the wifi, there were no amenities...they didn't even give you soap or shampoo like most places, there was no hair dryer...I don't need luxury, but it wasn't even clean or comfortable, and it wasn't in a safe neighborhood. Hopefully he got the message and will listen to me next time when I say it doesn't look very nice. There was one other one in Cheyenne, I think also a motel 6, that I refused because it looked hideous. He was upset that I wouldn't budge on that one...I hope he gets it now.

Sorry you had that experience at the hotel. If I saw all that when checking in or walking into my room I would have walked out and found someplace else. I'm kind of surprised you didn't. We got stuck in a hotel once in Atlanta when we missed a connection and flights were shutdown because of storms in Atlanta and Minneapolis, and it wasn't quite as bad as you described but we both agreed we would have felt more clean sleeping on the floor of the airport.

I do agree that most of the time Motel 6 does have a pretty sketchy reputation, but some can be nice. But it seems that is where your research had come in and should have been listened to. As a side note, I recently stayed at a Motel 6 in Santa Barbara with my college friend. Santa Barbara is pretty expensive and she found this Motel 6 that was fairly reasonable, about $250 a night, it was advertised as about a 1/2 block away from the beach and most the reviews we found were very positive. Turns out it was a great budget place to stay. It was very clean, recently remodeled with a retro vibe, and our room even had a view of the ocean. The shower was actually the best shower I've had in years in a hotel especially with the shower pressure. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this Motel 6 again or recommend it to someone. But the Motel 6 in the town closest to me I hear is very run down and sketchy so I think it comes down to management and location of the Motel 6 and people doing their research in advance,

Oh believe me, I really wanted to stay somewhere else. My best friend was meeting us in Casper and she asked where we were staying so she could book...I told her to book somewhere else because I was sure this one was not going to be nice. We hadn't even gotten there, but I could see from the photos that it wasn't going to be nice. She booked at the La Quinta, which she said was also not the greatest, but it was 3 times better than the Motel 6. But I felt like he had made such a big deal out of it, it was HIS responsibility to decide not to stay there, and unfortunately we had to pay either way....free cancellation was only up until 2 days before the booking, so by the time we got there, our card would be charged anyway. No way was he going to pay that AND get a room somewhere else and pay for that, too. So we were kind of stuck. I think his pride was kind of hurt and he didn't want to admit he should have listened. He booked us in one in Germany a few years ago that had exposed wiring on an outlet, the lamp was falling down out of the ceiling, there were nails sticking out on the doorframe, there was mold in the shower and sink, there was no AC, but the door to the balcony was not in the track so we couldn't open it, the wifi was shoddy and we were only allowed to connect 1 or 2 people at a time. That one, they used a deceptive picture....they took the picture from an angle so you could see the motel, but the most prominent part of the picture was actually the nusrsing home next door, which looked nice. Looking at the picture, you can't tell that isn't the hotel, so everyone thought they were getting this nice hotel when actually they were getting the run down dirty, dingy part next door. That's always been the standard to which we held hotels....we won't stay anywhere worse than that. Well, this place didn't have mold or exposed wiring, but it wasn't clean or safe. But we survived.

That would make me so frustrated. Like you said, you need to be careful when you go too cheap for a motel room. I understand what he wanted was a utilitarian room for the night, but you also want cleanliness and safety. JMO, but there is nothing wrong with wanting a pool on vacation. If ever there was an appropriate time for a pool, it is definitely when you're on vacation. I would have said, "Why, yes, I do need a pool. Thankyouverymuch."

This is just me, but I would also be concerned about bringing 6 legged critters hitching a ride with you back to your house. I realize bed bugs and roaches can happen everywhere. But some establishments are better than others with routine checks. I'm guessing a $60/night place isn't going to be so rigorous about checking for bugs.

Edited to add: I just remembered my flight attendant friend who lives on Long Island, but works out of Philly. She was on call in the airport for a 2 days in a row. She visited me after the first day. She told me she booked a place near the airport for something like $39 with her FA discount in a really dodgy part of town. I told her to just stay here especially after she told me where it was. Even my husband told her to stay at our house when he heard where she was staying. I don't think she wanted to impose on me. She left and when she arrived at this motel, she called me. She didn't even get out of her car. She said it was a really sketchy no tell motel type of place. For $39--get out of here. I am shocked. So I told her to come back to my house, where she could sleep without worrying about a drug or prostitution raid in the next room waking her up.

Hello-

Checking in with a Kettlebell/bodyweight HIIT workout. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I have been really lethargic lately. I didn't sleep well on Tuesday or Wednesday nights. I tried to catch up last night, but I think I should have a few sleep ins this weekend. I just feel zombied out.

We had a hive of bees living under the siding of the house. It was near the front door, so we'd occasionally get the odd bee in the house. We'd usually catch her and put her back out side. We were concerned about it becoming a problem because this hive was near the front door. I told my husband I didn't want the hive killed, just moved. My husband called an exterminator who said they would try to remove the hive and re-home it. I don't think he even tried, because he was done in about 15 min. He just put powder around the entrance to the hive. I could have done that. It rained cats and dogs yesterday, so I don't know if that powder has been washed away.

Exactly! I get wanting to save money, but there's a difference between being frugal and being downright cheap. A is still making comments about it, so I don't think my husband is ever going to forget about that.

And guess who was upset that the pool was closed when we got back tonight? Mr. Do you really need a pool.

It doesn't sound like he even tried! I don't know if there are any beekeepers in your area, but they are experienced in moving hives. You could call them and ask them if they want some free bees. They might be able to take care of it without killing them, and they will know if anyone is looking for a swarm.

I know. I wonder if my husband was lying to me. Because there really was no way to remove them without sawing through the wall or siding and removing a decent portion siding or wall (depending on where they decided to access the hive) and that would require a contractor to come repair it. I was hoping that eventually they would swarm off somewhere else, because I really didn't want to destroy a healthy hive.

Hello--

Checking in with a 45 minute kettlebell workout.

We're going up to my husband's apartment tomorrow. He wants to show me where he works and he thought it would be a little less chaotic on a Sunday.

I am not going to London with my husband. He is not 100% sure he is even going. He hasn't been cleared and once he is cleared, he is supposed to take an online course about "How to behave in Britain.":rolleyes::rolleyes: So, I never purchased a ticket. He is leaving next weekend, so I can only imagine what the airfare would be a week away from departure. I moved my jury duty for nothing, but I guess it's better to sit in a court room in December than August. If I have to do jury service, I'd rather it happened during colder weather. He was going to surprise his mom while he was there, but she lives up north and he needs to take the train. There is about to be a rail strike, so he cancelled that. Besides she is coming here the beginning of Sept and we have a few little trips planned for her while she is here.

Besides she is coming here the beginning of Sept and we have a few little trips planned for her while she is here.
Who is requiring him to take this online course? Do they not know that's where he's from? I'm sure he knows how to behave.

His job. It's kind of silly even if he wasn't British. These are professional people. It's not like they are new military recruits going overseas for the first time or something. But there was probably some sort of incident that made this a requirement. He had to do something similar when he worked at HSBC, too.

Hello-

Checking in with a lower body strength training workout. Originally, I had planned to do this in this 2 piece longline sports bra and high waisted shorts outfit, but I chickened out at the last minute and got regular shorts with a regular sports bra and a t-shirt. I went down the gym and it was nice and cool. But about 10 minutes in, my t-shirt was soaked, because it was not breathable. I didn't want to take it off, because I felt too self-conscious. I would have been better wearing what I originally had on, because even though it was a two piece, there was actually a lot of coverage. I would have been cooler, too. But I was struggling to get through my workout and I was literally dripping with sweat. Tomorrow I am wearing my 2 pc outfit, I don't care.

Over the weekend, my husband and I bought Callie some treats. We bought her some catnip. When she came around today, my son gave her some and filmed her with his phone. He put some on a plate for her and she was rolling around on the plate and smooshing her face into the plate. It was too cute. They sell a brand of catnip called "Meowijuana." it they have different 'strains', like human weed, too. I am sure the person who came up with the concept is an enterprising stoner. I bought Callie the smallest and cheapest catnip (not Meowijuana) because I wasn't sure if she would even be affected by catnip.

ETA This is too much. :hilarious:

I mean, I guess I could see it if it was a wildly different culture, like somewhere in Asia or something. But the UK isn't THAT different.
