working out for Disney

Good afternoon-

Just checking in with a kettlebell/bodyweight HIIT workout.

I'm headed up to my husband's place later on to hang out up there for a couple of days.

I saw the biggest, fattest raccoon lumber its way through my yard earlier today. Anyway, I was concerned about seeing a raccoon in daylight, but it seemed OK. He wasn't foaming at the mouth, screeching or walking erratically. He was just a big guy looking like he was on a mission (to find food, prob.). I don't know what the heck he is eating though, wow. He had to have been 40 lbs--easily. So now, my son is worried about the cat. I told him that raccoons won't bother her unless she attacks first. She is very small and very timid, so I think she would run if she saw a raccoon.
Best to always give the raccoon space (as you did). Not all animals exhibit outward signs of rabies -- especially at the beginning of the disease.

Hello! Haven't posted in a while because life has been crazy. I've been trying to give time to the trip report, which doesn't always leave a lot of extra time.

I'm feeling really sluggish of late, but it's mainly because we're in bubble mode in anticipation of Covid testing for the cruise. We can't limit all activities, but trying to cut way back to reduce risk and masking up as much as possible. We got in some time walking at the shelter over the weekend, but it's so miserable being masked up with this oppressive heat. I also think we need to pick times later in the day and maybe stick to Saturdays. I'm sure they mean well, but there are some volunteers that have been there for decades. They do a great service for the animals, but they aren't aware of all of the rules for new volunteers and often go into know-it-all unsolicited opinion/correction mode. I got scolded by one who didn't like that I broke from the clockwise pattern of walking the yard (dog was overheating) and another kept trying to get us to walk things we're not currently approved to walk. I guess at least we got out, walked, and worked up a sweat for a good cause.

Health stuff has been crazy too, but I'm praying we're on a good trend. Both girls seem to be over their skin infections (each needed meds every 8 hours and dressing changes 3x a day), the older one just finished up meds for an inner ear infection she developed from congestion coupled with altitude changes in CO, and the younger one was cleared today for her broken leg. So no more boot! Next step...getting her back to playing strength so she's ready for softball tryouts after the cruise. We will not be returning to her last team. Things got ugly and some bridges were burned, but had it not been for injuries, I would have insisted we look for something better months ago. It's just such a toxic group. I also have my 6 month follow up tomorrow for all things cancer and surgery, so hopefully that goes well.

Hoping our Covid testing this Friday goes well so we can go on this cruise. While I really need the relaxation, I'm also hoping to get back to the gym and walking during the trip.

Oh, yeah, for sure. I would never go near a raccoon or any other animal that could carry rabies. My son showed me this guy on YouTube who feeds raccoons hot dogs out of a bucket. They show up at his door and wait for him to come out. They crowd around him while he's sitting on his porch and one even perches on his shoulder. I think that's asking for trouble. He gives them hot dogs and these raccoons are massive.

That's good news about your daughter not needing her boot anymore. There's still quite a bit of summer left to enjoy, too. Hopefully, she'll get to go to some pool parties now.

I think those types of volunteers exist in every organization. :hilarious: I used to volunteer in hospice and once a month we'd all meet up to talk about what's going on with the people we were visiting, etc. This one woman used to ask, "Do you think that's a good idea, dear?" to every volunteer who was on the new side. There was a man I used to visit in a nursing home. He had no family, was pretty much confined to bed and we started talking about food one day. He told me he loved Kit Kats. So, I called up the nurse who ran the volunteer program and asked if I could bring Kit Kats. She told me there was no medical reason why I couldn't. So I brought it up at the monthly volunteer meeting and this woman opened up with her "Do you think that's a good idea, dear?" and then asked me what if he couldn't swallow, or had diabetes, etc. The nurse told her that I cleared it with her and it was OK. She responded with this fake, chirpy, "Ok, that's great!" Some of these people feel like they need to establish this hierarchy of dominance or something. I think it's so bizarre.

It's just a matter of time before your cruise. I'm looking forward to what you think of it. I am thinking of going on a Virgin Voyages cruise next year, but I am looking at YouTube videos and apparently, there is a s3x show one night. I guess you wear a mask and you answer a questionnaire about how adventurous you are. Then you split up from your partner and find someone else and tell them your fantasy or something. They also call people on stage to enact things, I guess? :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: I was interested in the food and adults only aspect. I would just skip out on that show. No judgements from me if that is someone else's idea of fun. It's just not mine.

Hello-

Checking in with HIIT yesterday and a kettlebell workout today. I used the gym in the building. It's pretty decent for an apartment building gym. I was the only person in it. I went for a walk today over to Liberty State Park. It's about a 15 min walk from the apartment to the water. I got to see where my great-grandparents and some grandparents came in, that was a bit touching for me.

I am going home tonight. I might come back next week. I would have like to have walked a bit more, but the air was so nasty and hazy. Maybe next week will be better weather.

It's a quiet building. Last night, I went up on the roof top and watched the sun set and planes make their final approach into Newark.

Nice thing about flying into Newark is seeing up close the Statue of Liberty and the NYC Skyline.

Good morning-

Checking in with a kettlebell workout I found on YouTube. I didn't feel like jumping around, but I wanted to get my heart rate up. I might go out for a short walk. It's already quite warm out, so I need to go out soon if I am going to get out.

Other than that, I am just praying the power grid stays up the next few days. I am concerned so many people are under a heat alert or advisory for so many days in a row.

Wow, you've just had horrible luck with the softball teams and drama, haven't you? I hope you find something better this time!

Great that the girls are getting back to health, though!! Traveling seems to be so hard on health....you don't eat the same way you eat at home, you don't keep the same hours so the sleep pattern gets all messed up, you might not get the exercise you are used to getting...then throw in things like bug bites, elevation changes, sunburn...it can take a huge toll!

When is your cruise?

I have never flown into Newark before, but I bet hat is quite a sight to behold.
Odd but reality occurrence immediately after 9/11. If a passenger took off from any of the several airports in the DC area and stood up during the flight while in DC airspace the passenger would be subject to arrest. Flying out of Newark one could still see the WTC still smoldering.

What's crazy...they go back to school on August 9th! We cut Universal from this upcoming trip (pushed it to Thanksgiving break), but I think I'm still going to take the summer vacation days I've booked simply so I can wrap up all of my back to school shopping and tasks.

That "dear" would have driven me batty! You had nurse approval, so that should trump whatever she thinks or feels. I believe you're correct on establishing some kind of pecking order or dominance. When I spoke to my mom about it, she shared a similar story from some of her past volunteer work. She signed up to do the meeting minutes one week, put them together based on previous minutes, and was read the riot act by one of the more tenured members of the group. It was really petty stuff that sounded like she just preferred things written in someone else's voice. Just like you wanted to do something kind for that man, all we wanted to do was show up and walk some dogs.

I'm hoping we enjoy. Between TX and FL, I've spent the last 31 years living fairly close to cruise ports, yet I've never taken a cruise. I'm curious about Virgin as well. I've seen one of their ships on the Miami portcam and their commercials have started to play pretty regularly in our area. The show sounds interesting...but it makes me wonder if that gives the entire cruise experience that kind of vibe.

I know! It’s a tough sport…at least here…because you don’t see much in the way of true clubs like you would volleyball or soccer. Just praying one of these is a good fit.

We’re supposed to embark on Sunday from Port Canaveral…assuming we’re all negative for covid. I’m really hoping we can relax a bit. We have a couple of excursions planned, but we definitely don’t need to do every show or group activity. We booked two cabins in hope that a little extra space will amount to extra sanity and sleep. I’m actually worried we’re going to be cold. We’ve been in triple digit heat here since early June. Highs of 80-85 sounds pretty chilly right now 😂

Just triggered a memory…I grew up flying in and out of Newark. I flew into Terminal A of EWR (living in TX) exactly 2 weeks after 9/11 and it was just such an eerie view from the airport. I remember we all deplaned, walked to a nearby window and just stared at the emptiness in the skyline.

That’s our fear as well. We’ve been warned that they may impose blackouts at any time to manage usage. People are finding out the hard way that the energy saving plans and control measures they opted in for with their smart thermostats means letting those in charge control their home temps. It was 105 yesterday (feels like 116), is currently 102 (feels like 110)…so this is not a time to be without power or control over cooling.

THANK YOU. I told my husband about that before installing Google thermostats in the house. He just ignored me. He is now wondering why it is 82 mid day when he set it to 78.

Good morning-

Checking in with a 20 min kettlebell hiit workout. I was going to do a regular bodyweight HIIT workout, but my energy feels low. The thought of jumping around feels like too much. I'll chalk it up to the weather. But I found this YouTube channel that is just KB workouts. He has a few 20 day challenges, so I'll do this until my energy returns or get tired of it. :hilarious: Anyway, my arms and legs are toast from the workout. I am already struggling with going downstairs and I'm wondering how I am going to lift my arms to wash my hair in a bit. So tomorrow is probably going to be 10X worse!:hilarious:

Nothing much going on here today. Just running errands and keeping cool.

Good morning-

Checking in with body weight HIIT workout. Surprisingly, I am not all sore from yesterday's workout. 👍

I'm not sure if I am going for a walk today. We're under an Excessive Heat Watch, so if I go out, it's going to be soon.

My son is really worried about the cat in this heat, since cats can get heat stroke, too. She was here Thursday and yesterday morning. She has been sleeping in the shade around the yard, but we haven't seen her since. If it was normal summer weather, he wouldn't be worried. But he is concerned about this heat. He has putting out ice water and refreshing it hourly. I made some heavily diluted beef broth and chilled it. I rarely see her drink, but obviously, she is getting her water in when necessary. The next time she comes around, I'll put out some of that broth into water and see that entices her to drink more water. If it was only a day or two of this weather, I wouldn't be so concerned. This has just been a long stretch of this heat, with temps not getting very low at night.

Just wanted to share that we all tested negative and have made it to Port Canaveral! We’re hoping to catch the SpaceX launch tomorrow morning before boarding.

We caught a sail away from the hotel and another one close up just after dinner. Tomorrow, this will be us! And then it’s time to get in some working out while in vacation mode.

Why anyone would be out by the pool or beach in this intense heat is risky too. Hydrate hydrate hydrate or else one might have a heatstroke.
