Good morning ☀️

Checkin' in with a lower body kettlebell workout. I looked in my notes and the last time I did this workout was the end of 2019. I beat my time by a few seconds. So I guess that's good. :D

I am going to a luminaria display tonight. The weather is supposed to be pleasant (they cancel if the weather is rainy/windy), but I'm wearing my fleece-lined leggings JIC! The last time we tried to go to one of these luminaria displays, it rained. We still went and walked around in the rain, but I would have liked to see the luminaria.

Yesterday, I had a quick look at that link I posted here, it looks like, for now, having 2 doses of a 2 dose vaccine or one of a single dose vaccine is fine to get you in here. A lot can change between now and the summer, even if the definition of "fully vaccinated" to enter the US changes, I'll bet it's because places like the UK and the EU have started boosters for kids.

I am honestly shocked I did not get covid on my last WDW. I ended up wearing my mask outdoors because it was so crowded at the Magic Kingdom and there so many maskless people coughing and sneezing into the air, no effort to contain it. Have we learned nothing the past two years? We walked to Epcot while we waited for our room to open up. I ordered an iced coffee and I was walking around, sipping on it without a mask and this woman was walking in my direction and was within a few feet of me and she sneezes into the air. This was never acceptable behavior, even before covid. I yelled at her and I put my mask back on. It's fine if you don't want to wear a mask outside, but please, cover your mouth for coughs and sneezes.
I think a lot of people just can't be bothered. People here seem to want to just be done with all the corona measures. No one distances, a lot of people refuse to wear masks, they go to crowded places...I feel like I'm the only one trying not to catch it! I was in the grocery store a few weeks ago, and some guy was coughing....he pulled down his mask to cough!! Like...he put his hand in front of his mouth, but he pulled his mask down first. :banghead::facepalm: That's the whole point of the mask! To protect from particles traveling through the air. You have to be a special kind of stupid to take your mask off to cough, unless you are actually trying to infect people!

Happy Valentine's Day! 🌹💘

I did a kettle bell workout this morning. It was kind of grueling in that each exercise had tons of reps before moving on to the next one. 👎But it was sweaty and I definitely earned my shower. I got a new kettlebell for Valentine's Day, so I at least got to try it. It has a different coating on it, so it doesn't feel so slippery when I am swinging it.

My cake looked like a disaster. I think I let the butter in the frosting get too warm and it looked like a frosted it with mashed potatoes. I had to make two frostings. I tried to make a Swiss meringue buttercream, but I couldn't get my egg whites/sugar to stiff peaks. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I wipe down all of my bowls and equipment with vinegar to make sure there are no traces of fat, which prevents the egg whites whipping to stiff peaks. So, I gave up after 45 min of whipping them and moved on to an ermine frosting. But the butter was too soft and at that point, I couldn't be bothered chilling it. I started making frosting at 11 and by them I was actually frosting my cake, it was after 2. So, I frosted it, called it a day and didn't bother decorating it. It was a black velvet cake with vanilla frosting (as I am typing this, I realize I never put the vanilla in! 😛 ) It tasted really good and since it's only the three us who will see it, I didn't care about its appearance so much. I was just a bit bummed, because I bought fondant and cut outs, plus a cute cake topper and I didn't use them. My husband seemed to like it a lot.:hilarious:

I hate it when I have an image in my head of what I want, and it doesn't work out like that. It's so frustrating!! But at least it tasted good!

Holy cow. I went back to see what was happening. I am sorry this is happening to you. What a rough year you have had. I am hoping everything improves for you.

Glad to see you back. Yes, the last few months have not been fun, but keep working towards getting back to normal.

I also saw a rheumatologist back in 2016...most blood I've ever had drawn in a single sitting.

Just checking in. I'm hoping to get clearance from the doctor tomorrow to resume exercise. Things have been moving right along and while I'm not planning on entering any Iron Man competitions, it would be nice to add something back into the routine. Yesterday was the most walking I've done since the surgery (a little over 2 miles) and aside from wearing the wrong shoes and getting a little sore trying to keep up with the rest of the group, I did fine. All of that walking came from being at UofH for a softball tournament. The younger one's team was invited to be special guests of the team, got to go out on the field for the pre-game festivities, sit right behind the dugout, and then take pictures with the girls afterwards. The game was covered by ESPN, but not sure if this part made the broadcast.

As for the progress, I hit a point early last week where I felt my treatment method was starting to harm my body's repair efforts. I sent over some pictures and they decided I've graduated to the next step of care. I checked in a few days after the change and they were really happy with the progress. I'm still thinking some time in March for me to hit a point where I'm just managing scar treatment, but things seem to be moving along a lot faster now that I'm in this treatment step.

Other than that...just dealing with the no travel blues. We were supposed to take a road trip last week during the girls' winter break, but I'm still a few weeks from being up for that kind of driving and sitting. Still, it would have been nice to get away. I go stir crazy if I'm here for too long! o_O I have family coming in for spring break next month and I'm not sure if I can make it for the softball trip to Dallas, so I may be waiting until June. Although, we are thinking about some college visits Easter weekend. We'll see.

That's good news that you're healing more quickly now. I hope you get clearance to return to exercise today. It helps keep me sane, so I don't do well when I can't.

That's really cool about your daughter's team being invited to that tournament. She must have been excited. Was there any particular reason they were invited?

Good morning. ☀️

I decided to go off of my program and do a 30 min kettle bell YouTube video, instead. I took one look at the workout that was scheduled for me and I thought, "NOPE." Even though it was only 15 minutes, I just couldn't summon any motivation to do it. Some of the exercises were hard for the sake of being hard. They had no functional benefit. I can't see a point my daily life, where I will need to roll my legs over my head, then launch them and the rest of my body forward into a plank jack push up. 🆖

I made rosé tteokbokki last night. It was very rich, but so good. I used more gochugaru and gochujang than the recipe called for and my husband was not impressed. I loved it, but it's something you can't eat all the time. I thought it was such a pretty dish to make for Valentine's Day, though.

I really have no idea how the invite came about. She's not on a national team (I can't see us ever signing up for that level of sports travel), but the woman who runs her club does host college showcases to help girls get signed to college teams, so that may have been a factor.

So, I heard back from the doctor today. I am cleared for SOME exercise. I'll take it! No machines, biking, squatting, etc., but I can walk (I asked about 3-5 mile range) and I can use dumbbells and kettlebells, as long as I don't incorporate any squatting in my mechanics. I have to do grocery pickup during lunch, but I'm thinking of going for a walk after work and doing some weights to try and get back into things.

Congratulations but take it easy and ease back in

I have never hear of rose tteobokki, but I looked up the recipe and it sounds delicious. I bookmarked it to make some day. Thanks! :) :)

It's really good. This is the recipe I use. https://futuredish.com/rose-tteokbokki-extra-creamy-with-gochujang-milk/

It's super simple. You can buy the rice cakes and the gochugaru from Amazon. Your supermarket might carry gochujang in the Asian section. It comes in a red plastic tub, otherwise I have seen it on Amazon. I added a lot more broccoli than it called for, too. I was trying to make it a complete meal. Also, have used gnocchi when my store is out of the rice cakes. It's not quite the same texture, but it is still delicious.

Edit to add, I don't use the Vienna sausages, I use bacon. I also skip the fish cake sheets.
