working out for Disney

It was really gross out today. Raining the entire day. Supposed to be sunny and in the 60s tomorrow

It's been chilly down there for the past few weeks. I had been looking at long range forecasts before my trip and it was like mid to upper 70s, as my trip approached, it dropped. One day was supposed to be 44 for the high, but it got up to 50. Not the worst weather, but not far off from the weather I was trying to escape for a bit.

So good to see you!! Thanks for checking in! I'm always up for some photos, and I'm curious about the reserve.

Good to see you, too! :) Hope you guys have been doing well.

I know you were talking about possibly staying at the S/D for your trip with your daughter and your friend.

We stayed in a king room with sofa and no view. We could see ToT from the room. It looks far in the photo (for some reason my phone makes things look further than they are), but it was really close to it.

Hello-

I did a stretch-y recovery workout this morning.

I have a blood draw in the AM, so I am going to try to eat as late as I can, since I have to fast. LOL I have been getting low grade fevers and some of my finger joints get red swollen and painful a day or two later. My mom has rheumatoid arthritis, so I want to find out what this is. If I have it, I've caught it early and I can get on meds to stop the progression of joint destruction. It could be something else, or even nothing. But I am not going to worry about until I have to. I am just being cautious. My mom's fingers are a bit gnarled and she has to get IV infusions of medication 4X a year. I'd like to nip it in the bud and not wait until I get to that point.

But my doctor told me to keep working out in the meantime. He assured me that it was safe and even recommended for people with RA.

You're smart to get that checked out. (As a side note only, the RA factor sometimes does not show up in blood work, but definitely get this done. You never know if they'll pick up on something else in the bloodwork that might also be helpful.)

I know what you mean about those crazy "fasting" early morning blood tests. Hate those -- I need my morning coffee with honey and cream! ;)

Nice view for having no view! Does the sofa pull out? The reserve rooms are more expensive than the standard Swolphin rooms, right? I don't love the cheap-looking white desk/drawers, but since we don't spend much time in the room, I guess it's not that big of a deal. I have a feeling it's going to be a while before we get to go anyway. We want to go to Wyoming so E can do her international Work experience thing for school, which means it has to be done this Summer or next year, but with the pandemic still going strong, I don't know how that's going to work out. They have decided that the QR codes we use for travel or entry into venues is only valid 9 months after your last shot, but they don't want to open up boosters for anyone under 18, which means that the kids won't have valid codes to get in anywhere, or to travel to the US. I don't think they can legally require that for entry if they don't offer the booster....that would be discrimination. So I'm hoping they'll change it, but I'm reluctant to start planning until we know we'll be able to go. But then if we DON'T go, E has to find something else to do for that work experience. So I'm anxious that we get to go this summer.

That's what my doctor said, he said some times it doesn't show up in blood work, so the focus is on treating the symptoms. He prescribed me a cream to put on my finger joints when they hurt, because Advil wasn't really working. I looked at the blood work order and I saw a test for Lyme disease, so it could still be something else, since a lot of different autoimmune diseases share the same symptoms.

I missed my coffee with chocolate coconut creamer in it this morning. I'm not a black coffee person, but I need coffee to even think about functioning in the morning.

It does pull out, but they also have double queen rooms. When we checked in, our room wasn't ready. But they offered us an upgrade, which was an HS view, but double queen. We opted to wait for a king. I just like having a sofa in the room. It's nice to sit on sofa with your morning coffee instead of a bed.

When I booked this room, it was the same price as S/D rooms. I don't know what it is now. My husband booked a week for Sept, so I can ask if you want. That white plastic is unnecessary, it's just a veneer. It's solid oak underneath. It looks like it came from IKEA. lol

Do your kids have American passports? I wonder if that is a way to circumvent the booster issue for entry in the US? I don't think US nationals need to prove vaccination status to reenter. Here is some info: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/proof-of-vaccination.html

Also, it looks like 2 doses of mRNA or one of JnJ is considered "fully vaccinated" because I think the US recognizes not all countries are giving boosters to children at the present. Editing to say the two dose vaccine does not need to be mRNA, it could be 'traditional' one like Astra Zeneca, which is also 2 doses.

I am editing again, because I know the pool doesn't like much at the Swan Reserve, but you have access to all of the amenities at S/D. So, if the pool is too crowded, you can walk across the street to the pools over there. It's a quick walk with a dedicated crosswalk that stops traffic as soon as you press the button. You are still closer to the pools than the rooms at the Dolphin that are close to the Yacht Club.

Good luck and I hope if anything is found it winds up being something easy to manage.

You may also at some point want to look into a full allergy and food sensitivity work up even if something does show up in your bloodwork because those can aggravate or cause symptoms

Hello-

I did a kettlebell workout this AM. It started with 100 kettlebell swings, then a circuit repeated 3x, followed by another 100 swings. I never do them all at once. I break them down in 20 or 25 swings at a time or else I get fatigued and my form gets sloppy.

Originally, my blood draw was 9:45, but I noticed they take walks in. I went as soon as they opened and waited about 20 minutes for my turn. So, I got that out of the way and I got have my breakfast with coffee AND cream much earlier than I thought I would.

I bought these acrylic cake discs for getting nice crisp edges up on the top of the cake and smooth sides. You put the cake (and cake board) on the one disc, then you frost the top of the cake, and top it with the other disc (and parchment paper). Then you get a spirit level and make sure it is level. You then make sure both discs are evenly aligned and you frost the side of the cake until you're happy with it. Then you remove the top disc and smooth the top a bit and take the cake off of the bottom disc. I hope this works, because my cakes sometimes looked like the leaning tower of Pisa because I'd push too hard against the cake trying to smooth it out. These discs will prevent that (I hope.) Anyway, I am trying it this weekend on a black velvet cake with marshmallow buttercream frosting. (Maybe I will share photos if it doesn't look like too much of a 💩 show.)

Yes. I think he's casting a wide net for now that will be narrowed down as results come in. The order was 7 pages long when I printed it out. lol
That IMHO is a good thing because some doctors just test for x when it could be anything from a to z. Hopefully you'll have answers sooner than later and it winds up being something easily treatable

Some years ago, I had PMR (that's been in remission now for years). Every time I had an appt. with my rheumatologist, I swear they'd draw enough blood samples to supply the city's blood bank! :p

(And just a side note -- from what I vaguely recall, I think there's well over 100 different types of arthritis, so not always clear to the physicians what kind a person may have. Also, some can overlap others, so you can have more than 1 type.) As you mentioned, they basically treat patient for symptoms (if nothing definitive appears in the blood tests). Sometimes down the road, a clearer diagnosis may also happen.

That actually all sounds really nice. I think we'd probably go for the 2 queens....we don't drink coffee, so that's not an issue for us.

I totally agree about that veneer looking like it's from IKEA! That was absolutely my thought....or that really cheap furniture that was really popular in the 80s/90s because the white went with all the really bright colors and geometric patterns everyone was into. It just looks cheap and dated to me, which is weird in a delux style hotel. Like the new Steakhouse 71 decor now that it replaced the wave...it looks like an airport terminal. AJ from Disney food blog said The Wave looked like a car dealership, but I think the new place just looks like a cafeteria. What is it with Disney making everything look cheap now?

No, my kids don't have American passports. But they HAVE been fully vaccinated, just no boosters. They are taking steps to lift restrictions, because they say that Omicron isn't as bad as the first variants. In order to fly here, you have to have the QR code, which requires full vaccination, recovery, OR a negative test. So perhaps we can just get them tested before we travel, and their full vaccination will be enough to get us into the US? Or maybe by that time they won't require it at all, or the boosters will be available to teens. I would think with the way it's going, we SHOULD be able to travel by summer. Heck, E might have gotten it and recovered by that time. She just sent me a message that in her friend Lars' math class there were only 4 kids. The rest were home with covid. You don't have to stay home unless you have a positive test or symptoms anymore, so the kids that are home actually have covid. And if they have been exposed, they are supposed to self test every day, and they can get tests from the school. E went to get some, since she's been exposed every day this week to someone new, but the school is out of tests. So many kids have been exposed, they are all having to test every day, and they ran out of tests. I asked how many kids in her classes were home, she said it would be easier to tell me who was at school. It's spreading like wildfire, at least in her classes. Logical, since they don't distance and only wear masks in the hallways. Every day this week, she's sat next to someone who tests positive the next day or day after, within a couple of feet. So she's definitely been exposed multiple times this week, and if we were to do a PCR test every time, like they recommend, she'd have to get one every single day. So she's just doing self tests for now, and she has no symptoms, so we're assuming as long as the self test is negative, she's fine. But I'm guessing she's bound to get it at some point.

I had to google PMR. That sounds awful. It's so crazy that the body can turn against itself without any external causes. That's really great that you're in remission for years. It makes you wonder how many people have serious issues and just attribute it to getting older, only find out after damage is done that it wasn't "wear and tear."

Yesterday, I had a quick look at that link I posted here, it looks like, for now, having 2 doses of a 2 dose vaccine or one of a single dose vaccine is fine to get you in here. A lot can change between now and the summer, even if the definition of "fully vaccinated" to enter the US changes, I'll bet it's because places like the UK and the EU have started boosters for kids.

I am honestly shocked I did not get covid on my last WDW. I ended up wearing my mask outdoors because it was so crowded at the Magic Kingdom and there so many maskless people coughing and sneezing into the air, no effort to contain it. Have we learned nothing the past two years? We walked to Epcot while we waited for our room to open up. I ordered an iced coffee and I was walking around, sipping on it without a mask and this woman was walking in my direction and was within a few feet of me and she sneezes into the air. This was never acceptable behavior, even before covid. I yelled at her and I put my mask back on. It's fine if you don't want to wear a mask outside, but please, cover your mouth for coughs and sneezes.

Happy Friday! 🙌

Today I did a "15 minute fat burn" workout. It was more like 30 once I added in the warm up and cool down/stretching.

Then I made an old school "almond puff loaf" that looked nothing like the photo, but tastes fine. It reminds me of something grandparents used to buy from a local bakery and ate with coffee. Not sure I would make it again. Technically, it wasn't difficult, but it did create a lot of dirty bowls. So, I am not sure it was worth the effort.

My lab results have started trickling in. My white blood cell count has dropped since my last test and is now below the normal range. My Rheumatoid factor is low. My thyroid (TSH) is just above the high range. Other tests have not come in yet, like Lyme disease and ANA and another one that shows possible autoimmune. So, I'll just wait for my doctor to synthesize this info and tell me what he thinks. I'm not going to lie, the WBC concerns me a bit, but I will wait to see what emerges.

It's very sunny and it's supposed to be 60. My husband is off today, so we're going to out for a walk. I was going to make my Valentine's Day cake today, freeze it and frost it on Sunday or Monday. I am reconsidering, since my coffee cake created a lot of bowls and what not.

Yes, wait for the doctor's interpretation of ALL the information. I understand (as I do this, myself, at times), that it's easy to focus on just one thing, because it's not perfect. Your physician will know how to put various items in perspective. Good luck, and sending best wishes.
