working out for Disney

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I was discharged on Sunday. They debated between Sunday and Monday, but the doctors on duty over the weekend felt that I was at a point where IV antibiotics did all they could do. Saturday was also a rough day. I know some people have it so much worse, but the IV antibiotics were wreaking havoc on my gut, my veins were becoming less cooperative...leading to more pain and discomfort, the disruptions all night for vitals checks and blood draws were leading to hospital nightmares during the sleep I was getting, and it was just so lonely. My care team was amazing and did so much to keep me comfortable, but I needed to go home. I'm adjusting to my incision care. I still hate doing it, but I've got a process that helps. I go back in on Thursday. Originally, this was supposed to be my trip to have my sutures removed and end this whole chapter, but instead, it will be for a wound check and will likely require additional follow ups. I pray they feel that things are going in the right direction. As painful as Thursday's procedure was, I feel significantly better and have nearly full range of motion.

On a workout note, my husband is pushing to buy a treadmill. I've wanted something better to replace my old one for a while now. It would also help keep me out of the sun and reduce some of my skin risks. I'm not cleared to use one right now, but it'll be nice once I am. So hopefully, I can get moving again beyond basic walking soon.

@Songbird76 How is your daughter's ankle?
Oh good! I'm glad you're on the mend! Did they give you any indication of how long it should take?

The ankle is so much better. Still slightly purple and swollen just a bit, but she can walk on it now without crutches. She's in quarantine for a few days because one of her close friends tested positive for Corona, so she's not walking on it a lot at the moment anyway, and can't do P.E. They were supposed to have a basketball tournament today, but it got canceled...I think they'd have had a problem. The 4th years were supposed to be coaches for the younger kids, but E just came in and said 5 people in her math class are doing online lessons because they are in quarantine....and that's just in one class. I don't think they'd have enough coaches if they had let the tournament go through.

They said to expect another 2 months of wound care based on where I'm at now. I'm getting used to the dressing process and have done it 16x so far on my own, but it's such a process and is exhausting to think that I'll be doing some form of this until almost Easter. I know it could be worse...it could ALWAYS be worse, but considering my husband informed the kids that my leg looks disgusting and the process made him queasy, it's a lot for the mind.

I'm glad her ankle has improved so much. That's really encouraging. It's too bad she's in quarantine. It sounds like a blend of illness and quarantine that forced the cancelation. We've seen a lot of that here as well...well, at least the illness side of things. We don't have exposure quarantines anymore, but I am constantly getting exposure notices.

Hang in there, keep doing what the medical people told you to do, and keep up a positive outlook. Easy for me to say, but I know that being positive (even when it's hard), is something that will help you heal sooner. And just ignore certain comments from members of the family, and continue to go about your other daytime activities as usual. Be sure to treat yourself to a nice movie (even on TV on demand, etc.) and pick out some nice sweets from the store to enjoy.

Well it's kind of ridiculous. Are numbers are through the roof.....like 60,000 cases in one day, so they are opening things back up now. More cases than ever before, and they are lifting restrictions. And they want to change the quarantine rules so that people exposed to corona don't have to quarantine at all.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this so long! That must seem daunting! I hope it goes quickly!

I did a Turbo Jam Cardio Party workout for the first time in YEARS!! I thought I would have a harder time with it, but it went ok. I kept it low impact because of my hip, but it went way better than I was expecting. I haven't been able to do it for such a long time, but we've been in the new warehouse at work for a couple of years now, and we don't push carts around for orders anymore, and everything is on ground floor. Without having to go up and down tons of stairs, and without the carts which change the way I have to walk, my hip has been so much better. I decided to try it. I think my mistake years ago was that it did it every day and didn't give my body a break. So I think I'll do this 3 times a week and do LS walking 3 days a week, and have one rest day. Then I should be able to lose some weight, get in better shape, but not injure myself, and I'll keep it all low impact.

Not that it excuses it, but DH is notorious for insensitive comments and not so funny jokes. I call him out on it, but as the years go by and I learn more about his upbringing, I see that his parents weren't exactly models for caring and compassion. I've vented to my family and friends, who don't understand, but they've at least been very supportive. Not the most pleasant things to look at, but my photo diary has helped me see the positive changes with my efforts. A movie and sweets sounds great too!

Just sharing that you'll get plenty of support from your pals here as well. Keep up the good effort, and things will improve.

I'm at a point where I don't know if any of it helps. It would have to be like the plague for this area to lock down again. The schools ask for a quarantine if you test positive and let them know, but a lot of people just aren't bothering. Many people here seem to have hit a point where it's treated like sending your kid to school with a cold...which happened all the time in the pre-Covid era. So, it's really on us what precautions we want to take. For many, it's nothing. We definitely are the oddballs wearing masks at school events. Numbers are through the roof, but nobody knows how high because tests have been hard to come by while others just don't even bother. 48,000 could actually be more like 80,000. I know it's making the kids uncomfortable knowing that some of their friends who have it (confirmed by parents) are coming to school sick, but they were also likely contagious and exposed everyone before they ever showed a symptom. So, it's become a no win.

{{HUGS}} from a nice safe distance and I'm sorry people down there aren't being careful.

That's really disappointing! I feel like they aren't doing enough here. I find it rather ironic that my own work is now strengthening measures as the country lifts restrictions. We've never had to wear masks before unless we were training people, but I just got an email today that masks are to be worn until you get to your work station. They didn't say anything about training, but I'm going to assume that will be the requirement again. They are also going to have monitors walking around to make sure people distance...that's been a serious problem at work. I'm one of the few who pays attention to that. E was exposed last week and she started showing symptoms last night...5 days after exposure. We're getting her tested tonight and she's been in quarantine this week. The good news is she has no school on Monday or Tuesday next week, so if she does have it, she won't be missing a whole lot of school.

We're still working from home, but I know that there are a ton of rules in place for the small group of people allowed to go into the office. I'm sorry E is starting to show symptoms. Hopefully it'll pass quickly and be mild. At least it sounds like the timing is good.

She tested negative! I'm surprised! But she got tester 6 days after exposure, and they say 5, so she's good to go. She's still doing self tests though, just to be sure, and Monday and Tuesday next week are inservice days, so she's only got tomorrow at school....but if she's still coughing, she should stay home anyway. Don't want to spread whatever she DOES have, and she doesn't want to be distracting everyone with constant coughing.

That's the challenging thing these days. There are still bugs that are circulating that are something other than Covid. Sam got something a couple days before the start of holiday break that spread to all of us. We all tested negative even though everything seemed like Omicron. I even passed a PCR test with the hospital. So, just random crud. Hopefully she feels better soon!

She feels much better and went back to school today. She wasn't coughing anymore. I'm glad they have Monday and Tuesday off though. Monday is PE day and I don't think her ankle is strong enough yet to do PE, so another week off is good. But this is the first time since she sprained her ankle that she has ridden her bike to school....I hope it went well.

Well, over here, they are the main transportation, especially for minors, since you can't drive here until you are 18, and gas prices are usually around $8-9 per gallon. You only drive if it's too far to walk. Some of E's classmates bike over an hour just to get to school. A lot of A's classmates are brought by taxi because it's too far to bike, or they can't ride a bike. We live less than a 10 minute bike ride from his school and I still worry about him because he doesn't have the best insight in traffic situations, but it's a straight shot and only one street to cross and that has a stoplight just for bikes. Otherwise I'd go with him every day. But it's kind of a necessity here.
