Can she bend it? Even if it hurts like hell and she can only bend it a bit, if she can bend it, it's probably not broken. Still, an x-ray can tell you if it's sitting properly in the joint.

Sprains can hurt worse than breaks. When I broke my finger, I didn't even notice because I sprained my knee at the same time, and the knee hurt way worse than the finger. It wasn't until I looked at the finger and saw it was swollen up like a balloon that I even knew there was a problem.
In addition to the above --

Also, @Songbird76 , there's (sometimes) a possibility of torn ligaments. Not saying that's what it is, but just something I've learned from others. Glad you're taking her to the dr. tomorrow for a proper exam. Hoping it's just a bad sprain and will settle down in a few days.

Yeah, I read about torn ligaments, too, and I was surprised that the doctor didn't even think it necessary to look at it. How can you determine the severity without even seeing pictures and only asking a few questions on the phone? That does not seem thorough.
But it's a little less swollen this morning and she can limp on it.

Good morning :)

I wanted to share the great news. My test results came back early yesterday morning and the PA messaged me early in the evening to confirm what it all meant. It seemed pretty clear to me and my brother works in a hospital cancer center, so he's used to reading these things and also agreed with my assessment. Still, best to wait and get it straight from the dr's office. All margins were clear on the excision of my leg, lymph nodes also clear, and no additional treatment is needed aside from matters relating to the treatment of my incisions!!!

hallelujah GIF

I also survived my first time letting K drive. We're starting out in parking lots, so not as risky, but we spent close to 40 minutes last night practicing. She got in about 30 minutes the night before in my husband's truck.

That's good that it's not a break. I hope the pain and swelling are improving and she starts feeling better soon.
The swelling had gone down a LOT, but then she went to school today, and even using the crutches and taking the elevator, she came home with it all swollen again. We iced it and elevated it all afternoon, but it's still stay-puffed-marshmallow-man swollen. If it doesn't go down in a few days, I'll call the doctor again.

Maybe try and get her in on Friday if not tomorrow if she doesn't show any improvement. As a sprained ankler and the last person on the planet who likes to call the doctor if she doesn't know her sprains better safe than sorry

I hate to check in and be a Debbie Downer, but I’m dealing with a setback. My main incision developed an infection last week. I was put on oral antibiotics. They helped some, but not enough. The dr had to do a really painful procedure to drain it, but decided I needed more. So I was admitted to the hospital yesterday for cellulitis. I’m receiving two kinds of antibiotics by IV to knock out the infection. What’s really causing me stress is my new care plan for the incision. I won’t gross anyone out, but it’s mentally jarring and a fairly painful process. I’m hoping to be released either Saturday or Sunday. It’s been a pretty emotional experience. They said this infection isn’t from anything I did wrong, but it’s still so frustrating and upsetting.

I'm sorry to hear of your setback. It sounds like you might be getting good care though for it and intensive care for it. You don't want the infection to get worse and/or develop sepsis. It might be rough but try to relax a little while in the hospital, a good mental outlook can help a lot as you said it can be very emotional and painful. Please keep us updated and I hope the infection starts getting better.

O.k. That completely sucks, and so sorry you're dealing with this unexpected setback. UGH. Hoping the meds kick in quickly, especially after they did the drainage thing.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this setback but at least you're getting good care and I'm sure you'll be back to yourself in no time. Please ease back into life and try to enjoy some rest. Prayers, pixie dust and GWS xoxo

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I was discharged on Sunday. They debated between Sunday and Monday, but the doctors on duty over the weekend felt that I was at a point where IV antibiotics did all they could do. Saturday was also a rough day. I know some people have it so much worse, but the IV antibiotics were wreaking havoc on my gut, my veins were becoming less cooperative...leading to more pain and discomfort, the disruptions all night for vitals checks and blood draws were leading to hospital nightmares during the sleep I was getting, and it was just so lonely. My care team was amazing and did so much to keep me comfortable, but I needed to go home. I'm adjusting to my incision care. I still hate doing it, but I've got a process that helps. I go back in on Thursday. Originally, this was supposed to be my trip to have my sutures removed and end this whole chapter, but instead, it will be for a wound check and will likely require additional follow ups. I pray they feel that things are going in the right direction. As painful as Thursday's procedure was, I feel significantly better and have nearly full range of motion.

On a workout note, my husband is pushing to buy a treadmill. I've wanted something better to replace my old one for a while now. It would also help keep me out of the sun and reduce some of my skin risks. I'm not cleared to use one right now, but it'll be nice once I am. So hopefully, I can get moving again beyond basic walking soon.

@Songbird76 How is your daughter's ankle?

Wow, that's rough. Wondering if the infection happened at the hospital. Glad they're treating it and all, but it sounds like an awful ordeal for you. Sorry to hear you're going through this. Please keep us updated as to any progress, and sending healing wishes to you. Here are some flowers to cheer you up. 💐

I'm so sorry you went through that. I haven't had time to check in for over a week, so I'm late to the party, but I hope when I get caught up that you will be home and feeling better!!
