working out for Disney

Well if they've all been vaccinated, it's kind of weird if they are all positive, isn't it? That just doesn't make sense, unless the vaccine's effectiveness wears off really quickly. I really hope none of the rest are positive!

I just found out that my brother and nephew are also positive. Not sure about my SIL, but I have to assume at this point...and my dad seems to share my opinion that this all tracks back to something with my SIL's family on Father's Day. It's making me think it's this Delta variant, because other areas and countries have been reporting breakthrough infections. I think several places like Israel are going back into lockdowns. I can't see that happening here, but I'm going to keep a close eye on their conditions.

I can understand her reasons to wait just a little. I know my friend did that with her daughters since they had some stuff coming up. I was the only one in our house who really had any kind of reaction, minus some arm soreness. So, hopefully your kids will be the same when they get it.
Well for the most part school is over for E tomorrow. Tomorrow is their last test day and that's the end of term pretty much. The next week is for make up tests, assignments, etc, but she has none of that, so she doesn't have to go to school those days. Friday is the math challenge for the first and second year Dual Immersion students (the math challenge is in English, so it's only for the dual immersion kids) with the 3rd years acting as coaches. E is really excited about it. First year, she did really well...I think her team came in 2nd, but the team who came in first, apparently their 3rd year coach gave them all the answers or told them how to do it instead of helping them to work it out on their own. Anyway, then last year it was canceled because of corona, and this year she gets to be a coach. Then next Thursday she has to go because there's a culture program where they have to put together a stage production. They get split into groups and each group gets a task like make up, direction, acting, tech, etc and then at the end of the day they perform and get a grade. Then at some point in the last week, they turn in their books and they are done. So really, there's not much left for her, but she stresses about everything. She's a perfectionist and gives everything 100%, so she doesn't want to be unable to do things because of a reaction to the vaccine. Her test week started last Thursday and she had 2 tests every day. She had a whole schedule made up for the weekend for studying and then had such bad back pain from PMS that she was in tears and couldn't focus on anything and nothing was working for pain relief, so she lost a whole day of studying and was already stressed about that. (I took her to the doc and got her a prescription so she shouldn't have to worry about that anymore) But that's the kind of thing that really stresses her out. Since she still has to turn in her English portfolio and that's the last thing she needs to do, she doesn't want the shot until after that is turned in, and it's due on the 6th. The teachers use the next couple of weeks to grade final projects and tests, and help the kids who have missing assignments or tests to get caught up, and then there are the graduation festivities for the kids leaving school, which is different over here. I think that instead of a big ceremony, they have individual appointments with their teachers to sign their certificates or something? Anyway, I think it takes up a lot of the teachers' time, so they can't be teaching classes. Classes are done, and tomorrow is the last day of exams. After that it's just the activities and turning in her portfolio and her books.

That really really sucks. Were you all planning on going on vacation together, or were you just going to visit and now you can't? When is your trip? I hope that having had the vaccine, it won't be so bad for them and it will just be mild symptoms if any.

We were all supposed to meet in Panama City Beach next week. They've never been to a softball tournament before, so it was supposed to be combo visiting and vacationing. They've had fevers, congestion/coughing, and just general feelings of being sick and tired...but I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse than that.

I guess at least they'll be away from school for a bit. So, that's at least time to get the shot and not having to worry about side effects with school. When do they go back? Ours have been out since late May, but they go back around Aug 11th.

They go back August 30th. We only get 6 weeks of summer vacation here. On the one hand, it's nice for working parents of small children, because they have less to arrange for with child care during the summer. On the other hand, it makes vacation planning annoying. Everyone is going at the same time, so it's super busy, it's harder to get time off of work because companies can't give everyone time off at the same time, but everyone has the same vacation time, and vacation destinations are often crowded because everyone has such a limited time frame. We aren't allowed to take the kids out of school when it's in session. You can go to jail or pay major fines for that, so you can't just say "July is too hot....I want to go in February". And the other vacations from school are only a week long, so going overseas is out because by the time you get over jet lag, yo have to head right back so the kids don't have jet lag when they go back to school. The only time we can go back to the states is in the Summer. Or POSSIBLY a week at Christmas, but then prices are high and it's also crowded.

Is is affecting young adults really strongly? Over here, teens can't get vaccinated at all, but they have been saying that it doesn't affect teens as heavily. That's why it took them so long to close schools and such, because they didn't think it was necessary, even though it was reasoned that even if they didn't get it as badly, they could still spread it to people who WOULD get it heavily. But if you are vaccinated, even if he gets it, it might not be too bad because he's in the age group that supposedly doesn't usually get it as bad. And it sounds like he does take other precautions, so he's not completely vulnerable. Is he comfortable traveling? Are there travel restrictions there if you aren't vaccinated?

I read that many admissions into ICUs are younger people sick with delta. We are vaccinating 12 and up and my son is 19. I read that it only takes 5-10s of exposure to contract it.

He can travel all over the US, there are no restrictions. (I think he might have to quarantine in some states, but I am not sure.) But we all have to wear masks in airports and on aircraft. My husband wants him to wear an n95 mask, but he's been mumbling to me "that masks don't work." I honestly don't know where the heck this kid came from. We are taking a trip to DC next weekend and he wants to come along for a change (because free, delicious food) and the places we've booked into no longer have the outdoor seating they had due to covid. Everything is like 2019. I kind of want to cancel because I am worried about him picking it up while dining out.

This isn't a control thing for me, it's wanting to him keep safe and well when the ability to do just that is right there! Nineteen is too young to have debilitating long covid. I understand I can't make everything safe for him. But it frustrates me that there is a safe and effective vaccine out there and he won't take it.

You can't control him but you can tell him he's not going on vacation on your dime until he's fully vaccinated. Males of a certain age sometimes respond to food;) Also feel free to MMOB

Wow. I hope they all get well quickly and have a mild case. I am reading this and I am going to start wearing mask again. I have only gone maskless 3 x (and really it's because it's been so hot, by the time I got to the store from my car, I was like, "Forget it.") I did get my hair done today and I didn't wear my mask, but I am regretting it, reading this.

I think for DC, I might. But our trip to Chicago is tomorrow and it's just a quick 2 night trip to see my grandma. It's literally going to be visiting with my grandma in her nursing home. We're not even staying in the city. She is really looking forward to it (especially seeing him).

He knows he has to wear a mask at all times and because he's not vaccinated, he can't get near her. He has to stay 6 ft from everyone.

Hello-

Checking in with yoga and walking. I haven't done my yoga yet, because I got up early to bake a rum cake that I am bringing as a surprise for my gram. I thought it was best to have the oven on at 5 AM v. later in the day when it's 97. 🌡️ I am going to do my yoga before bed, since it's a gentle, stretchy class that's very relaxing.☺️

We're flying out on the last flight tomorrow night and I have such a bad feeling about it. AA emailed my husband asking if he would be willing to switch our flight to Chicago. That makes me think it's oversold. We can't b/c my husband has to work, plus we already changed our flight back. I am worried that since we bought 3 of the last 4 seats on this flight, we're gonna get the boot first. I think we'll just give up if that happens. We're returning Sat. night, so leaving Friday morning isn't going to be worth it. They already made us cut a day off from our trip. We're also supposed to get severe storms with 70 m/h winds and possible tornadoes. It just feels like this is not going to happen. I know this is not a good weekend to travel, but my husband is off for a week starting Friday and this was the best for his work schedule.

Whatever happens, happens. All I can really do is let it play out and work from there.

Can you try to get to the airport a bit earlier for that return flight home? I was thinking if you checked in early, you would be assured of your seats on the plane.

Our flight back here is fine (so far.). It's tomorrow that is a potentially an issue. We're going to leave as soon as my husband is done with his workday (5:30 for a 9PM flight). I am thinking if there is an issue with our seats, we might know when we check in online later. If we have seat numbers, I'll know we're in a good place, not in the clear, but it's a good sign.

Que sera, sera. :)

@Sans Souci That's great with the yoga and walking...I hope the flights work out for you!
I was just reading about heat acclimation and that it takes two hours of being outdoors to get used to that! I've been walking in the mid-day heat here in CO but only for about an hour or so. My backpack came today so I'm going to load the backpack and start walking with my Disney pack on. I guess I'll just need to remember when I'm there to keep drinking water and that EVERYONE is hot! (I have the dry-wick clothes as well as the cooling fan and water bottle/sunscreen).

That's really frustrating. The government over here doesn't give control to the parents....teens get to choose for themselves. E wants to get vaccinated and we just aren't telling A he has a choice. He might choose to anyway...he does believe in vaccinations, but hates actually getting them, and part of his autism symptoms is that he is really sensitive, so I can see where he's coming from.

You don't control your son, but you DO control your money. You can just tell him you aren't comfortable with him going unless he's vaccinated. Let him choose....either he gets vaccinated and is welcome to come along, or he stays home. It's up to you whether you fund his trip and you'll be worried about him the whole time.

I hope you don't get booted! Doesn't asking people to move their flight just exaccerbate the problem? Whatever you move your flight to, they've probably already oversold that one, too....so then there are even more people trying to get on that same flight. Then they boot people from that, who then have to find another one. If you get booted from one, I'm assuming they have to refund your ticket and maybe compensate you for it since it's kind of a breech of contract, right? But do you then get priority when rebooking? Otherwise you'll just get booted from every flight you book because you'll always be booking last minute after having gotten the boot from the previous one. I don't understand how they can get away with over-selling in the first place. They shouldn't be allowed to do that. There's enough demand for travel right now that if someone doesn't show up for their flight, I'm sure there are people on a waiting list to fill that seat. They don't need to oversell to have a full flight and it seems like it is false advertisement to sell you a seat they don't actually have.

I have some friends with young adult children who are in the same boat. The kids are refusing vaccination, which is impacting how they all interact. After talking to my kids, I know they weren't 100% on getting it and probably would have held off if they were adults and didn't have to go with my decisions. I don't understand it, and I've tried presenting them with lots of scientific info vs. some of the misinformation stuff out there. Still, considering the low vaccination numbers in many places, I think there are a lot of people buying into this stuff. I can understand not wanting to dine indoors with him if he won't get vaccinated. Hopefully, he's at least willing to mask. Most of the people I know that refuse vaccination also are anti-mask.

You definitely do start to acclimate to the heat after exposing yourself to it for a bit. It'll still be hot, but it will be tolerable. Cold can be the same way. Just hydrate and make good clothing choices. I had to ditch my neck fan for softball, but there are some bladeless ones others really like that seem to help them.
