working out for Disney

Still off of the leg today. I really wish getting on a treadmill didn't make me motion sick so that I could walk on a flat surface (which doesn't hurt at the moment).

I got my insoles today (which I went to the pharmacy, and the exact same ones from Amazon were $6 cheaper...). The relief in my leg was instant when I put them in my sneakers. Walking on flag surfaces doesn't hurt at all. Going down steps hurts a bit, going upstairs with shoes is fine.

I might see how it feels tomorrow if I can take a walk. Not being able to workout is driving me crazy, but I leave for Disney a week from tomorrow and I'd like to be able to walk.

With a week to go I'd take it easy, needing a last minute scooter rental would stink

Well take it easy...you don't want to injure yourself more before you leave for Disney. Have you thought about swimming as a workout? There's less impact, so it probably wouldn't bother your arches, but you could get your heartrate up so you wouldn't get the migraines. I did water aerobics for a few months before my wedding and I loved it. I would have kept up with it, but I moved and it wasn't available where I lived anymore. But it was a great workout...I lost 30 lbs before my wedding and my dress had to be taken in quite a bit.

Suggest also getting another pair of those insoles for backup. The (general) reason is that often I've found that when I find something that I like and it really works, it goes out of stock, by the time I go to replace it!! ;) Glad to hear that the insoles are helpful to you.

I do swim when I go to the gym....but I'm not going to the gym right now.

Oh, I'll need another pair. I have two pairs of sneakers. 😂 We are planning for Hershey this weekend, so I want to walk around there first and make sure they don't hurt my feet, and then I'll grab pair #2, either off of Amazon or from the pharmacy, whichever one can have them to me the quickest for cheapest since I leave in a week.

Never got in a second workout yesterday. We had a line of storms roll through while the younger one was at practice. I had a feeling things would be ended sooner rather than later and within 5 minutes of being there and the wind violently blowing the trees around, everyone got lightning alerts. They wound up going to Menchies afterwards. They had Pineapple Dole Whip, and I was tempted, but I just watched everyone else load up. At least the front brought in cooler weather, we went from low 90s to 70.

Sticking to my lunchtime workouts...9.90 miles on the bike, squats/plies/calf lifts, and weighted oblique twists. Hubby has also started working out, but his approach is quite different. Like his little 10 minute walks to prep for WDW, he's doing some pushups, and I think that's about it. I can't say anything because he'll probably lose 20 lbs by June doing this...typical guy.

It's so unfair!! Why do guys have it so much easier than we do, but we're the ones expected to stay thin, etc? I was so jealous of my husband. He cut down on carbs for a few weeks and lost 20 kilos without working out at all really. At the same time, I was doing an hour long cardio thing every day and also cut down on carbs, and had only lost 7 kilos in 3 months! I was working SO much harder than he was and he lost 3 times what I did!

How's your oldest doing on the team now since all the drama happened? Are they more bonded as a team now? And whatever happened to the instigator? Is she still on academic probation or can she play now?

It's just something about men...they barely have to do a thing and they lose weight. I work so much harder for slower and less significant results.

She's better. In the end, it seems that many others on the team realized that said girl was a problem and have tuned her out as well. There were a couple of times she tried to lure my daughter back in, but she's getting the picture that this is not a friend. Unfortunately, between their drama and some unrelated issues with the varsity team, all three softball coaches for the school quit. They tried to hire a woman who manages one of the big club ball groups here who is also a batting coach at the place we go to, but she heard about the drama and wanted no part of it. I can't blame her, but I'm hoping we can get someone.

So they have no coach right now at all? Wow....how sad for the school that the coaches quit.

Still doing the am and pm yoga with Bird. It's a bit lacking as far as a workout goes but 2 weeks in I'm less tense and my joints have loosened. For this late in spring I'm still spending too much time getting my steps in inside. The weather this year stinks. Cold and damp:mad:

It's really a bad situation. First, the varsity coach quit because she learned that some of the girls on the team had started a hate page about her. She's a tough coach and ruffled a lot of feathers for years, but she was good and my daughter actually liked her. She's still working at the school, since I think she teaches something as well, but she refuses to coach. I can't blame her. Not sure about the story on the male assistant coach who took over varsity (aside from him quitting), but the JV coach has decided that she's just not cut out to coach. She's fresh out of college and was some kind of neuroscience major. So, she's got a pretty decent degree for a career, but clearly, softball was her passion and these kids crushed that.

Today is a break day, but yesterday was sort of an unconventional workout. I bought a set of cross bars for the new vehicle. Assembly of the actual bars wasn't too bad, but trying to mount them was ridiculously physical and exhausting. Also frustrating, since I couldn't get one of the locks to engage. So after several hours of climbing up and down ladders and step stools, lifting these things, and applying all kinds of brute force to get them secure...I had to take them off. My upper body is so sore today, so I guess that's a sign that I got in a workout. I know I was sweating like crazy!

Another weekend of softball. Also got the kids their first Covid shot yesterday. It was all done through the hospital system with which their pediatrician is affiliated, so it'll be easy to prove on records when the schools ask in the fall/summer (which I'm sure they will).

Good luck to your dd. Who's filling in as coach?

That makes me so sad. I know there were teachers we hated when we were back in school, but we didn't have all the things like facebook or instagram or twitter....there was no hate page to start. You just talked about that teacher at lunch or complained after school on the phone. I'm sure they didn't know half of what we were saying. Now everything is so public and it's all recorded.
But I get the JV coach's stance...I figured out after half a year subbing and the other half teaching that I didn't like it and I wasn't cut out for it. I loved teaching the little ones up to about 3rd grade, but when it came to the older kids, they had such attitude that it took the fun out of it. And the requirements were so out of touch....my 6th graders had to learn things I didn't get until college. There is no reason a 12 year old needs to know about the circle of fifths. They just don't. But if they didn't pass this huge test, I was in trouble. It seemed ridiculous to me. The test was something like 3 pages long and had all these obscure terms on them that professional musicians use, but that the average 12 year old doesn't need. And they had to be able to identify orchestral pieces by a 15 second snippet of them. Why? For what purpose? That's stuff I had to do in college as a music major, not something a kid needs to know. It felt more like ME being tested than teaching the kids to appreciate and love music. It just wasn't worth it. I can understand for the coach who had a different career, at some point, it just becomes too much to ask. But it's so sad that that happened. And it's the kids who lose out when the powers that be ask too much of the teachers.
