That's really rude of the coach to have practice run over so late. People have lives outside of their children's practices. At least he could have sent out a mass text to tell you it was going to run over. So rude.

Your bathroom is coming together so nicely. You're making me want to redo my bedroom and master bath now! Alas, we've had problems with our roof since moving in (even though we had a house inspection before putting our offer in). What an ugly surprise we had after the first snow/rain mix after moving in. Now, our roof was leaking in several places the other day, so we're paying for a roof. I wish I could spend it on a new master bath, that's for sure. LOL
Good luck and yes rude is what I thought as well. Send a text or something

@figmentfan423 not sure if it was this thread or another where you brought up produce depts. I agree, ShopRite is the absolute best. My Stop & Shop does decent produce, certainly many steps above my other local alternative, the Acme that took over my Food Emporium when A&P went bankrupt a few years ago. Acme is truly awful. I’ve had to take back rotten packaged produce to them.

We only recently got a Wegman’s. When I finally got to visit it (I’m just not standing in line to get into a supermarket—thanks to Covid, it took me three tries to check out Wegman’s) I found that yes, their meat and produce were impressive, but SOOOO much more expensive than ShopRite. Once I got past meat/produce/cheese and into the aisles, it was definitely reasonable and their beer & cider selection is majestic.

Its always interesting to compare supermarket notes! 😉

The Wegman's I go to is large. The health/gluten free section is the size of a small supermarket. When I have to go out for produce and milk I'm there for rope drop;) That seems to work for everywhere except Aldi because they open later

I am jealous you can buy booze in your Wegman's in your state. I miss being able to buy a bottle of wine as part of my grocery shopping. I have to go to a liquor store for wine. I have seen one Wegman's that has a liquor store inside, but it's still a separate point of sale. It's still a little more convenient than driving to a separate store.

Hello-

Late check in with my workout. I used my kettlebell, some dumbbells, my Swiss ball and my pull up tower. It was a better workout than yesterday, for sure. Yesterday was a total suck fest. Today was tough, in a good way. :p I went out for a walk, too. I'm going to try to get out tomorrow for and get as many steps as I can, before this storm blows in. My guess is I will be stuck indoors Monday & Tuesday. We're supposed to get 6-12 inches, which seems like a rather large spread.

Other than that, I've just been trying to keep busy. I made some royal icing and bought some drop flower piping tips. I practiced making drop flowers today. I'll pick out the better ones and put them on my Valentine's Day cake.

Most of the Shoprite's up north have a "liquor store" attached. It's a separate point of sale but in general has a much larger selection than the Wegman's I've been in. Before smart phones I kept a printout of their store when traveling because I knew I could always find a snack there

We can only buy beer & cider in the supermarket. Wine & booze in liquor stores. The Stew Leonard's near me has an attached but separate wine shop, it's absolutely convenient!

I can only hope they're as wrong as they usually are. 🤞

We battened down the hatches early this afternoon, then did an essential grocery run, and I got in my workout before cooking dinner. Dinner was a Coral Reef-inspired mahi-mahi with a soy lemon glaze over couscous. Turned out well.
I did the weekly produce and milk run before dawn yesterday. Today the guys cleaned out the rest of the leftovers and i made fried rice, hot and sour soup and broccoli curry soup. Tomorrow I'll make several other Asian inspired dishes in large quantities so I don't have to cook for a couple of days.

I understand, I used to think that every workout needed to be at least 60 minutes or it was a waste of my time. I would get anxious if I didn't workout for 60 minutes. I started dreading my workouts because of that. Then a few years ago, I just started doing 20-30 minute workouts and I don't have the dread anymore. I also don't feel chained to exercise, like I used to.

Now, the only exception for 60 minute workouts is yoga, because it follows a format. I like the slow warm up and long cool down, yoga is something I feel shouldn't be rushed. It is more of a mental practice for me.

I definitely need to train my brain into "just do something" acceptance. I tend to be one of those people that builds on my workouts as I get stronger, to the point of excess. So it really messes with my mind and tends to burn me out.

I wish I liked yoga. I have tried so many times with different people...some of which are friends who are instructors...and I just can't get into it. I think that feeling of it not being rushed is why so many of my friends love it. At the beginning of the pandemic, one of my best friends from college who left social work to be a fitness instructor (with the heaviest emphasis on yoga), started livestreaming her classes. It was free because she felt so strongly about the mental benefits of yoga and how it could help all of us stuck at home. I lasted less than a week.

Good morning. 🌻

Checking in with my workout. It was a good one. 👍I've been doing a 15 minute stretch video afterwards, because my muscles feel so tight lately. But it's good, because they are long stretches.

Wow, did I mess up dinner last night. I made cauliflower "gnocchi" and I deviated from the recipe a bit. After I steamed the cauliflower, instead of mashing it by hand, I thought I would be clever and puree it in the food processor. The recipe called for 1 C of flour. After I pureed three lbs of cauliflower, I could see 1 C of flour was not going to get me gnocchi dough. I had to put just of 6 C of flour in the dough to get something remotely workable. Not only that, because I'd been mixing and mixing by hand, gluten had activated, so it was getting stringy and hard to stretch. This recipe called for lightly frying them in olive oil spray. They were nasty--pasty, heavy and chewy. I offered to make regular pasta, because I'd made vodka sauce, but my husband liked them. He even went back for seconds. I ate 2 pieces and called it quits. 🤢 I redeemed myself by making pancakes for my husband while he shoveled the driveway and sidewalks.

I don't know how much snow we're supposed to get anymore. They kept changing the amounts, so I stopped paying attention. It's raining/sleeting right now, so the snow has been compressed a bit. I think it's supposed to switch back over to snow later on.

I am burned out on yoga! 🤣 I was solely doing yoga for over 2 years. I want to like it again, but whenever I think of doing an hour of yoga, I dread it. I am hoping to be able to come back to it in the Spring or Summer.

I really wasn't happy. Today marks the second early day where they also messed with arrival times at the last minute. My daughter is supposed to be at school ready to practice at 6am on Mondays, so we aim to leave the house no later than 5:45am. At 5:40, my daughter gets a text that they're running late and practice won't start until 6:10am. 10 minutes is a big deal when I'm having to wake up and be out the door with her before sunrise. She had a 6:45am field practice last week where something similar happened. We left the house around 6:20am and about half a mile from the house, my daughter gets a message that they're running late and things are being pushed back to 7:15am.

Thanks! I'll post some completion photos in a little bit. I'm so sorry about your roof. A roof is not a cheap thing. We bought this house for its fixer upper potential, and the very first project we had to do was replace the roof. I will agree that it wasn't as fun shingle shopping as it was doing tile and fixture shopping, but we used it as the first opportunity to transform some of the look of this house. The roof had been a solid tone brown, that played off some of the warmer tones in the brick. We opted for a multi tone gray that worked with the cooler tones in our brick. So, maybe it's an opportunity to play with some colors to make the project more fun?

Good morning! I didn't work out all weekend. I feel bad that I didn't, but the cedar pollen has been bad here and it's been causing me a number of issues. Both girls have to be at school early this week due to band and softball stuff, so I foresee naps during lunch, and workouts in the evening. I've been looking into super telephoto lenses for our summer trip and while it's a bit of a stretch to classify it as workout equipment, I'm thinking I can better justify it by taking it on walks down to the lake to get better at using it on wildlife. The spots I'm thinking are 4 miles round trip at a minimum, so fitness and photography? I won't be buying until after we get back from Disney, but I think it's something to look forward to post-trip that should also come in really handy for both vacation and sports stuff with the kids.

The bathroom was also completed on Friday. It really doesn't look too different from how it did in the previous pics.

Now I'm starting to work on stuff to put on the walls. I had this brown leafy candle sconce on the wall opposite the sink. I've always kind of liked it, but it's now the wrong color. So, I spray painted it white.

50891698537_4661bb3c5b_z.jpg

I found some neat candles, but I felt silly spending $25-35 on a candle, especially when I have so many that are purely ornamental. So, I started experimenting with spray paint.

This candle was canary yellow with white vertical stripes, which is all wrong...but so is this blue. I started playing with the tint of the photo to see if it would be ok in a turquoise...

I really don't want to go too crazy spending on decor for a half bath. So, $9 in turquoise and black spray paint to make this candle work better seemed more acceptable. I still need two more things to go on the walls in there. Surprisingly, this really is the only bathroom that screams for wall decor. I don't want to spend crazy amounts and I'd like something more personal, so I've started going through my own pictures to find something that might work well on a canvas. I have done a lot of cropping, rotating, and finer editing, but I think this is the one...

*Bonus points if you can guess what this is!

beyond that, I think I'd like to do something with tile, but tile is also heavy. So, it needs to be something small. Between tile left over from the bathrooms, the kitchen backsplash and all of the samples we've ordered, we have a lot of tile out in the garage. Of course, I also have yet to come up with something that doesn't look like a bad craft project! 🤣 If I cave, there's a small framed geode slice that I really like.

6 AM on a Monday? Before school? Wow. I had no idea practices started so early. Is this a league independent of school?

It's funny about the roof. My husband called a firm for a quote and they said to allot 90 minutes (he told them he will not sit that long for a pitch) for the visit and to make sure I was present. I just want a roof that is well-constructed and looks nice. I do not need to be present for a sales pitch. Furthermore, I really don't want anyone in here who doesn't live here right now. My husband said I won't be present, they pushed back and so did he. They relented and made an appointment for last Friday afternoon. They were going to use a drone to look at the roof and then Zoom with my husband. So, they cancelled because it was really windy and they rescheduled for Sunday at 9 AM. They requested my presence in the Zoom call and my husband told them I have no interest. So, 7:30 AM on Sunday (!), they called my husband to reschedule for later that day and my husband was fine with it. They told him I needed to be present. He canceled the whole thing. He told them not to come and not to call anymore. So, Monday 5 PM, rolls around and someone from this firm called my husband who said he was going to have to cancel his 6 PM visit to our house, because the roads were too slick! My husband told him that he told the person on the phone he wanted no further contact with this company. The guy didn't know about all of the back and forth and apologized.

It's not that I don't care about a roof. My husband works in finance and can do sums in his head more quickly than I can. Plus, we have to find ways of financing that are not banking institutions. My husband is a bank examiner for the Department of the Treasury and he can't take out loans or use banks for financing. So, I let him take care of that. And, TBH, I am a bit depressed right now and my concentration is reduced right now.

Anyway, we got two more quotes that transpired without drama. Both men showed up, stomped around on the roof, told my husband they would email send photos and a quote and then call him to discuss. Nobody wanted a 90 minute appointment or pestered my husband to have me present. I have seen photos of the work both of the men have done. A couple of the houses were on our walking route, which was incredibly convenient. LOL

JMO, but anything that 'needs' both spouses/partners to be present is going to be $$$.

Your bathroom turned out really good. That tile is really cute.
I love the candle. That's really clever, I never would have thought of spray painting a candle.
